Lack of power isn't that much of a problem if they are aiming for their WiiU, 3DS etc. audience.

When current gen 3rd party games come into play though....

I agree it's no big issue. I'm just gonna buy this for Nintendo stuff anyway. Have a PS4 (soon Pro, probably) for 3rd party. Which, as you bring up, I don't expect the Switch to get very much of. Not straight ports, at least.

But yeah, lack of power isn't really my issue. My issue is that because it's a (dockable) portable, performance (or price, depending on how you want to look at it) is going to suffer compared to what it could have been had it been a traditional home console.

Still laughing at the rooftop portion of the trailer.

Why would anyone think that's a good idea lol.

What's funny is the people sanding behind the players must have eagle-eye vision. The screen isn't that big.

But then again, they are millennials, and I'm just an old fart who wears reading glasses. LOL.

Saddest rooftop party if all you're gathering for is to play videogames then go home after 3 hours

To be fair, the entire scenario in the video was ludicrous to begin with. The only reason why it wasn't dumbest moment in the video was that there was another scenario where a bunch of people are playing basketball outside only to take a break to play NBA 2K17 on two tiny screens with tiny controllers in the middle of the night.

I was agreeing with you. It's going to have slightly better then WiiU performance levels with 3hrs of battery life.

I just really hope thy let us buy and utilize multiple docks and systems at once. I want to buy two Switch and use one as a gamepad or while the other one is charging.

Bad comparison. By the time the PS4 was released they were still trying to sell Vitas. There's always that what if scenario where they could have this idea but not act upon it because it was redundant to the situation. The current set up for the Switch's release is not redundant.

So you believe that if the Vita hadn't been a thing Sony could have made the PS4 as small as the Switch, with no compromises? Yeeeeah...

3 hours is fine with me, I never even get close to that amount of playtime in a day. However for trips, I hope there's a micro USB fast charging option.

Welp. Hopefully final product lasts a bit longer. Sounds like the undocked should have less to push to thrum along easier and longer.

But this is really making it sound like maybe 3DS is getting a successor after all, which...damn. That would not be good for shared catalog. Really hoping all the posts theorizing that Nintendo could push out a more portable friendly revision in 2018 to replace the 3DS are true.

That said, I think Nintendo should be worried about shoring up its handheld market before trying to revive its home console market, tbh. 3DS is old. Mobile is bigger than it was when 3DS came out and it is what is leeching Nintendo's support these days.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

I love the fact the woman leaves her bigscreen apartment because she can't convince her friends to cross the road and come to hers. But they're okay with hunching over a small screen and playing there.

I really wish Nintendo comes to their sense and announce another home console sku without any portability bullshit. All I want from the Switch is to play Nintendo handheld games on TV. The damn tablet thing can last 1 hr for all I care because I probably will never remove it from the dock anyway.

I'm using an extended battery on my old zelda 3ds and I barely charge the damn thing. Its always full of juice. Easily my best gaming accessory purchase ever.

3 hours is a fucking deal breaker. I can spend 3 hours bullshitting around and not making actual progress in a game lol.

How much did you expect?

I was hoping for double that, but it looks like battery tech hasn't advanced since the last 10 years. I'm not sure just how "portable" it will be with that kind of battery life. Oh well, still buying it if it has Advance Wars/Metroid/F-Zero/Etc.

Realworld 3 hours is fine, though not ideal. That's vita and 3ds level.

Spec sheet 3 hours (aka 45 minutes real world if you're not playing on lowest brightness with Wi-Fi off) is completely unacceptable.

Either way, I hope there is an option of a bigger battery. Took the Wii u pad from worthless to great.

Again your missing the big picture. Stop thinking about just power and specs. If this succeeds and nintendo does not make any more solo handheld lines that means more focus on developing for one platform. Which likely means more games.

It's literally called the "Switch", referring to the portability. They're not going to be doing that.

Also something to keep in mind. 3 hours might be how long it it lasts when playing Skyrim or the new LoZ. I am sure they will made side scrolling games for this or get the VC running on it. Like playing Metroid Fusion on this wont drain the battery down like Skyrim would.

Let's ignore force feedback, motion control, touch screen totally. We got a whole discussion about it in the other thread, while they clearly confirming it...

Battery 3h isn't great. Not that i see someone play more than 3h on a handheld. But it will get better like they did with the 3ds.

I probably will play mostly at home on tv or handheld

Have you ever been shitfaced drunk and tried to go from one apartment building to the next? Might as well be in the hotel from Inception.

Sure, and that's a good thing! I would love not missing out on titles because I'm not interested in buying a portable. But it would be even better if they just didn't have a portable at all. A Nintendo home console is all I want. I understand why they wouldn't do that, obviously, but that's still what I personally would wish for.

I think down the road they easily could do something like that. It's just not going to happen at launch. But anyway, I think what some people want is just the equivalent of the Vita TV or Shield TV to happen here. Certainly not an impossible scenario.

Our marketing research shows Millennials care more about outdoor rooftop parties and having a diverse set of friends than owning quality television sets.

Our next commercial features Millennials showing the powerful authenticity of the Nintendo Switch. They play the device on a beach with a bonfire. Some of the girls are dancing - but not to Just Dance, they're just spontaneous and authentic. Why would gamers play Nintendo Switch on a beach? Who knows? Research.

Also never seen a plane with outlets.

I fly a bit for business, and I think I've only been on one plane in the past 2 years that didn't have a seat back power outlet. I usually fly Alaska Air or Virgin though, so maybe they're better than other carriers.

Also, Icelandair had outlets in coach on the last international flight I took.

Perfectly reasonable, I think we all need a bit more clarity on the battery situation, especially considering Laura is also seeking more clarity on it since it neglects to specify what factors make the dev kit only 3 hours or if longevity is only for gameplay and sleep mode mitigates that if you don't plan on playing hours straight outside.

Sure, but by the time the Switch launches it'll have had over five years of technology improvement so I would expect them to at least be able to match the Vita.
Battery tech hasn't improved.

Yes you can charge on the go.

3-4 hours max while playing on the go sounds about right, don't have any official numbers or final units to know for sure. But look, there just isn't much Nintendo can do about that. Comparisons to iPads are unfair for multiple reasons.

Honestly when it was mentioned that the battery life is mediocre my first thought was "Wii U Gamepad with OG battery". And while that was rather towards 4 hours, I'm not that shocked about the 3 hours. Sure, it's not ideal, but I hope this mean more processing power. And I would gladly take that compromise.

Hopefully the charger works with USB, so I can use my phone mobile charger if needed.

3-4hours max while playing what tho? Skyrim with display brightness set to max? or a 2D side scroll game that does not need much power?

If it's my skyrim example, I'd be happy with the 3-4 hours.

That's a train
No seatbelts
Thin ass seats
Buttloads of leg room (Seriously planes are cramped unless first class)
Also never seen a plane with outlets.

Most modern airlines have outlets or usb on newer/larger planes. First class and Business class almost always have outlets.

I love watching GAF melt down about the most minor of issues. Just how long do you guys want to play portable Switch for? Five hours? Ten? Twenty?

Nothing is ever good enough.
