Surface Book

"i7: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M 2GB "

My goofness

So Studio and Book have the same GPU then unless you shell out $4k for a 980m

Thisthing is priced like mac.
More than Macs actually.

But I for one have never seen anything like their answer to the iMac, especially not the dial. I was blown away by it.

New shit is never cheap. I think the price is pretty reasonable. The only question I have is whether this is useful for someone who is not an artist.

This put Apple to shame. I'm curious to see if their event tomorrow puts them at a better level.

Right now I'm really interested in a Surface Pro as my next laptop. I don't know if the new MacBooks are going to change my mind.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Should have held off this launch till early 2017 and used newer hardware.

Not like they needed to get this out for the Holidays as it's not a consumer focused device.

Plus companies who run on yearly budgets probably wouldn't buy this till next year anyways.

Yeah the price on the studio is stupid, but then I guess it's really made for people who just need to convince the IT department that they need it.

Satya wishes he could get people as excited about services as Panos can about a replacement for a mousewheel.

For independent creators who are doing it for business it is a no brainer investment. And yes for plenty of corporate situations with money to invest in getting the best out of their people

Not at all. This thing is ridiculously overpriced if you are using it as a standard computer. This is really made for the content creators in mind.

This is a deep investment from Microsoft, I think its long-term and smart. Rebranding themselves as a content creator company rather than consumer. I wonder how Xbox will fit in that.

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Wow. I am really impressed by the studio. Great answer to having to buy a workstation and a tablet.

Actually I haven't thought about it like that.

My cintiq was 2,000 and my pc was about 1,800. So i guess this sorta makes sense when you think about it like that.

I know it's not competing directly with the iMac because it's a pro machine with a lot more features. It's just the shock that MS prices their hardware the way the do.

As someone who buys hardware for our department (Normally Apple as we are a graphic house) I can easily put this on next years budget and get them in house before the end of the year if they are available.

Why no pascal GPU for the Studio? That kinda sucks for that price :\

Anyway, I'm hoping this would at least give a good competition to the overpriced wacom cintiq. They need their ass kicked for once lol

That device looks great and that dial does too. Unfortunately I have zero reasons to get that things, lol. But man that would look great in my office.

Holy Molly this is so out of touch.

Nothing that they have shown is for professionals, some indie comic-book doodles and perspective sketches. You can combine sketches and words! WOW!

How about not skimming on components? Hybrid HDD? Medium-end laptop GPU? No Ethernet ports? Can you even encode a video for two hours without overheating the system, let alone use the peak performance of both GPU and CPU without catching fire?

I don't agree that it is overpriced. Especially not for the desktop with a new input device.

If you want new shit you better be prepared to pay for it.

Instead of saying overpriced just say that it is expensive. Overpriced implies that you can get the same thing elsewhere for less. I don't see anything else on the market like this so that is not true IMO.

I don't know how useful this will be for artists (I am not an artist) and I am skeptical that puck is going to be useful for non-artists. But I cannot deny that it is cool as fuck and very innovative. The artists can tell us how useful this is and the hands on will reveal how useful all of this actually is in day to day use.
