Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross) for 3DS announced, launching March 18, 2017 in Japan

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
I have to wonder how many new players the franchise has picked up over the last 3 years or are most just ignorant of the fact that this IS a yearly franchise in Japan? It's perplexing to see these milking and yearly complaints post as if they didn't know this is how the series normally operates.

Seriously folks with the exception of 2016 Capcom has released a main entry game every year in Japan since 2004 (twice in 2005).

You see all those assets in the game? They'll have to be remade.
They don't HAVE to be remade, unless there is some requirement to do so. If a Switch version releases, it'll most likely just have better post-processing effects, resolution, and textures.
This Monster Hunter milking is as bad as Yokai Watch sheesh
There has always been an expanded version of a MH game released after the original release.
No way Switch gets a Monster Hunter before 2018.

They'll support the massive 3DS userbase until (and if) Switch sells millions of units. It wouldn't be wise to divide the userbase between two formats anyway. People (in Japan at least) wanna play with their friends, so until virtually everyone has a Switch it'll stay on 3DS, which everyone has.

My prediction, but I'm pretty confident. Fairly sure the 8-4 guys said the same recently so I'm not alone in it.

Cross-gen gameplay has always existed, Toukiden and God Eater 2 has done it. PSP and Vita players were able to play with each other.

I have no interest in this. After adoring 4U, I had to force myself to play X. It felt too similar and I couldn't go through that grind again. I need something fresh.

Now that I am thinking about it, it doesn't seem like a whole lot has been added? Are we just assuming we're getting "g-rank" monsters? Or are we just waiting til January?

- Old Missing Monsters Added
- New Deviants
- New Hunting Styles
- Cats get hunting styles?
- New Monster
- New maps?
- G Rank

Probably some other stuff. It basically an expansion like the ones that came before it

They said G rank in the Direct. It's basically the same amount of new content any new G game adds. The past two Ultimate games were unusual because we skipped vanilla MH4, and MH3U was a combination of two games (MH3 and MHP3)

Said it before, I'll say it again, I'm just done with the 3DS. After like 800 hours of 4U and 200 more on MHX I just can't play MH on the 3DS anymore. I didn't even get to the end game in MHX. After the 2nd or 3rd time I had to take nearly a week long break from hand cramping I just couldn't do it anymore.

If they port it to the Switch I'm there day 1. MHX is a really good Monster Hunter. I like the flexibility you get from styles and I'll be glad to see what improvements they make to them in a G version.

With those kinds of numbers in hours, have you not considered getting a grip to use? I absolutely couldn't put the kinds of hours into this series as I have without mine. I have the X Hunter's Grip from Hori and I love it.

People complain about a lack of difficulty in Generations...and then complain when the one consistently difficult Monster gets a boss form...

Diablos isn't what I would call consistently difficult. G rank Black Diablos in 3U and 4U were but regular has never been super difficult outside of your first Devilblos.

Ill be so glad when people stop trying to convince people to deal with 3DS's issues

Even if they dont port MHXX to switch ill happily wait for the inevitable switch game

My hands would cramp playing anything for the amount of hours i play Monster Hunter. I don't consider that to be an issue with the 3DS necessarily. I am not trying to say the system is perfect or flawed, only that if you are putting hundreds of hours into a game... you clearly love it. If you want to put hours like that in comfortably, a grip seems like a good idea. That's all. My hands are big. So maybe I'm the issue, not the 3DS?

The only real difficulty with Diablos these days is not throwing your system on your 30th consecutive run without a single Hardhorn drop.

Black Diablos is still the goddamn business. The rage mode super jump is the stuff of nightmares.

If something like this happened, we've seen how well their engine scales to mobile ports and across platforms previously. Looking at MH3U and how that released in both NA and Japan, such a decision wouldn't be unprecedented either.

My expectations are definitely being kept in check though.

God damnit who asked for this. I already basically retired my 3ds this year. Now I'm going to have to dig it out of storage.

So is it a G version or just a expansion at a smaller scale?

If there a switch version that might grab my interests, but otherwise I just going to wait for MH5 (or the G version).

Wasnt impressed with Generations to be honest. Solo'd most of the content because I struggled find anyone online. Got to HR7 last night saw the missions and just didnt feel like bothering anymore, deffinitely not enough monsters.

looks good?(are there any videos that dont have all the compression?) glad i didnt get generations yet i guess, gotta hurry and fix the broken ribbon on my r button already.

does anyone have any idea as to what the two new styles might be?

I definitely felt like it was harder to find lobbies in Generations. In MH3U, there were tons of lobbies for people fighting specific monsters. In this game, everyone is doing strictly 1-7 star missions as the lobby title or special permit, hyper or some notoriously hard boss like Akantor or Teostra.

However, that being said, I practically refuse to play this game solo anymore. It's way too much fun with actual people.

One is Brave style, which gives your hunter a command counter attack and a new meter to fill up that enables you to evade and attack more aggressively with more powerful moves.

The other is unknown but has something to do with items (or at least barrel bombs).

So this is a "G" rank equivalent?

How do these titles function in Japan, can you just transfer your data over?

What are the chances of this coming over to the West? I think up until now we've just been getting the "G" rank versions of these games on 3DS to begin with.

Either Capcom's trying to jump forward on the Switch train or they're making a play by releasing it only on the 3DS to keep the 3DS relevant so they don't need to put in work for an HD Monster Hunter.

I skipped Generations so I'll probably scoop this one up, assuming it comes state-side, which seems pretty safe.

Put me in the camp that also thinks a Switch port is unlikely. Unless it is an excuse to port their engine for future releases or something along those lines.

Yes.

Notice how Generations already stores all its save data on the SD card? The new game will presumably find that save on the card and be able to port it over.

Outside of the little spinoff titles, it's rare to not have a Monster Hunter come over. So I'd say the chances of this being localized are very high.

thanks. brave sounds very exciting, trying all the different styles in the different generations demo i didnt feel like any of them were quite what i wanted.

so how long does everything think it will be before we see whats next(for switch hopefully >.<) 1 or 2 years?

Im excited to see what they fix for the styles as some style were overpowered in the game and also I'm excited to see if they bring back nerfed barroth or tri barroth. Also barioth was one of my favorite monsters to fight in monster hunter tri so I'm excited to have him back. Also fewer gathering quest pls.

Yeah, pretty much what I expected from that direct. Definitely skipping it if the 3ds version comes overseas. I was perfectly fine with them leaving the first version in Japan and only bringing the "G" version out here, I'm a fan but definitely don't need that much MH in my life.

That said though, here's hoping they will port it over to the Nintendo Switch when it comes overseas, I'll be all over that version if that happens. I'm ready for some big screen MH action, MH3U is still one of my favorites because of it.

Capcom always makes a save data transfer tool allowing you to send your save data from the vanilla monster hunter game to the expansion version of the game so you can continue where you left off from.

If they release this game on the Switch, I hope they allow save data from the 3ds version of MHGen/MHX to be transferred to the new version on Switch. The Wii U and 3DS version of MH3U could share saves so I'm hopeful.

So there's a 4chan rumour from a guy who called XX a few hours before the reveal.

He states MH5 is being developed for PS4
Sony have paid to not have it on the Switch
Will take on open world gameplay and make it more incline to Western appeal, getting rid of the timer and missions.
The MHPortable series will continue on the Switch, and sticks to the current formula

Sounds like a heaping pile of the old bullshit to me, but take it as you'd like. It's 4chan after all.

Sounds like a very risky idea that could really damage the franchise.
So it's believable.

I agree with you, doesn't sound credible. It's more likely that someone knew of the game prior to its announcement, maybe from seeing the trailer and made up the rest.

Sounds like total crap. Capcom already has a series that's about a big open world built for Western appeal. It's called Dragon's Dogma.

Everyone knew it was going to be Monster Hunter XG, there's nothing to find in here.
