PlayStation 4 Pro |Launch Thread| PS4 Reloaded

Hello fellow PS4 Pro owners,
have you tried to replace the hdd? If yes, is the little piece of plastic that covers the slot broken and can only be stuck in place with a piece of adhesive?

You had to apply a little bit of force to get it out, but mine still sticks after pushing it a little.
But even if you broke it, that thing isn't important.

Yay.

Grabbed mine 2 hours ago. Since I sold my old PS4 yesterday, I had to do all the settings from scratch and the total time it took for it to have everything, including downloaded games (minus FF14 patches) was about an hour. Super easy. So far it feels almost exactly the same, but I'm going to try some Titanfall 2 later.

How much space does FFXIV take up on an HDD all patched up and with the expansion nowadays? Curious, because I was thinking of resubbing, but I haven't played since about 5 months after A Realm Reborn launch... So no experience with expac or anything, and I'm thinking of starting fresh on a brand new server... But HDD space is a premium to me (my library is huge and I didn't buy a bigger hard drive to go with my Pro).

Just been delivered and first impressions are not good (Game UK).

The outside box is quite crushed so it was noted with the Delivery Note from DPD.

Open the outer box and fortunately there is very minimal damage to the outer Ps4 Pro packing.

However, the inside of the box appears not to be fully contained correctly because if I tilt the box the contents inside sway from one side to the other. Wtf? I've never ever purchased an electrical item where the contents inside the box are not fully stabilised so they don't move at all.

Does anybody else remember this before they opened their box or if anybody is yet to open their box, does yours do this too?

Thanks.

edit: UK btw

Picked mine up from Game - was damage on the corner of box - said I was a bit anal about condition can I have another, came back with one that had damage elsewhere but seemed less, was in a hurry so said it was fine, WTH do they do with their stock!?

Anyway - it's in the car will try setting up at lunch.

Noticed your box in detail looks to be the thick kind of card and I presume you're not UK as the card surrounding mine is thin and has a pegi rating of 3 on it.

Hmmm. will edit my previous post.

If I'm keeping both PS4s, there's no disadvantages to keeping my OG PS4 as primary other than not being able to play digital games offline right? I want to be able to share PS+ with other accounts on the OG while I use my account on the Pro.

Hi goonergaz can you check and tilt your box back and forth to see if the contents move inside before you open please?

Sorry for triple post guys/gals.

edit:

same @ boozehound too please?

Yeah, the box was thick - I'm in Japan. The console didn't move inside at all.

I'll get back to you in an hour or two, the first time setup is taking ages.

Guys, seriously why havent there been yet any worthwhile comparisons?

I am still waiting for more in depth stuff, especially between 1080p ps4 vs 1080p pro.

Yet only a few shots have been released. So many people already have a Pro could we get some comparisons please?

Mine was damaged on the corner, but the clerk exchanged it for a good one. Nothing that would've affected the console inside, but if I can have a nice looking box, I'll take it.

I had the same issue with my past samsung 1080p tv. Problem is, there were no settings about overscan/picture size!
The only way to get the proper pixel mapping was to rename the input to "PC". So definitely try this if all else fails.

Interesting. On my Samsung I have a screen fit option that gives me proper pixel mapping. 16:9 aspect ratio zooms-in by 5%

Anybody tried it out with a 1440p monitor ?

Buying into PS4 now for FFXV and Last Guardian, and trying to decide Pro vs Slim. There's zero chance I'll be getting a 4K TV anytime soon, but I'm wondering if I'll see much of an improvement on 1440p.

Still waiting for my Amazon UK order that got despatched on Tuesday. Courier being used is Hermes which are usually ok but starting to worry as it's been stuck at the local depot for a couple days with no update now... :/

Just had a quick look at UC4 and TLOU.

UC4 is night and day difference. In Libertalia it's stunning at 1440p with HDR. Please, please ND give us a 60 fps mode :)

TLOU I could barely tell the difference between native and checkerboard and I was sat 5 feet from the screen. At 60fps at that res with HDR I am blown away and I'm a 4K PC gamer.

Kinda curious too. However, I guess it will be 4K* downsampled to 1080, then upscaled to 1440p which is kinda hilarious.

Mine was stable inside the box, everything in place. (picked up at store, Portugal)

Do I need the LAN cable to transfer from my old PS4 to the Pro?

Hearing people saying you can just do it over wifi, that true?

Picked mine up after work!

My first next- no wait, current gen console! Too bad I have no games for it, lol. Thinking of picking up Dishonored 2 tomorrow, not sure if that's the best "benchmark" game for the system though. Can't wait for The Last Guardian to release.

You still need a LAN cable while using WiFi. I believe the network connection is needed to verify the transfer. The LAN cable does the actual transfer.

In Game? Keep it in the staff toilet, among other places.

Are there any tests on how much impact switching to a SSD will have?
Yes in the SSD thread. Improvements with an SSD appear to be close to what the PS4 got.

It's faster, but unless you've got the excess cash and SSHD is the best compromise.

DF will no doubt have more exhaustive tests done soon.

That feeling when you've got the new hard drive installed, all ready to do a safe boot to install the OS via USB/Memory Stick and your USB doesn't fit in the USB ports....

I think the port in the back isn't blocked like the ones in the front are.

Hearing some messages that the back USB port might not be compatible with headsets, and in some cases won't even charge a controller. People can confirm/test this?

Just picked up mine and it's now restoring the backup.

Everyone be aware that the front USB ports are very tight. The included USB cable left some scratches on my machine :(

right now it is transferring my close to 900GB backup. close to 3 hours left and since the transfer started the ps4 pro stayed whisper quiet.

Love the new light bar!

Later I'll put four little feed on the ps4 pro, so it sits a little higher.

Does the whole console move or does it feel like it's just cables and the controller?
At least in my Nordic box which is the thin kind, the USB cable was loose, accessories come in this kind of box:

Can you check if the contents move from top to bottom if you turn the box please?

The cables can move about inside, doubt the console could.

It's definitely not the cables as its too much weight. It feels like the console moves 2 inches up and down.

edit:
@ toiju no its definitely the console because I can feel the weight. Anyway, don't want to clog up the thread anymore, I'm gonna take it back to Game this afternoon cos never had an electrical item that ****ing moves inside the box before being opened - ever! wtf?

Thanks all for your responses.

Mine arrived yesterday. Haven't done a lot of testing yet, but the UI is noticeably faster (I put in an SSD) and compared to my launch day PS4, the Pro is whisper quiet.

Anyone notice how the r2 l2 feel different, they feel more comfortable on the finger they felt a bit sharp and thin on my old pad but feel more refined and comfortable on the new pad.

The dude from the shop told me it was the same for every other PS4 and that using the piece of adhesive was normal. I just wanted to check if he was bullshitting me or not.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the best showcase of Pro improvements so far according to Digital Foundry.

Any other poor brother with only 1080p TVs and monitors here ? :D

Have yet to try it out but I can confirm load times are faster on Pro.

Dragon Ball XV2 was killing me with those load times. (even post patch)

Pro arrived, Sony XD 8005 in action!
Question:
Leave resolution on automatic or put it to 2160p YUV420 (read thats the HDR setting)

Hopefully UC4 overtakes it with another patch later. Tomb Raider already has a superior PC version so it's not much use to me.

Has anyone tried Infinite Warfare on the Pro?
