So 1080p Owners, what are your thoughts on the PRO?

I do both 1080p and 4K, and tbh, I'm more excited to check out the benefits to 1080p. It's a win-win IMO. You'll be able to play everything, but will have the option for better IQ/resolution/performance where supported.

Tell me more about the psvr benefits please

Can you elaborate?

Things like lowered res on the outside edges of your view (blur in your peripheral vision) is either drastically reduced or elicited completely, allowing your whole view to be rendered at the full res. Resolution overall is increased in most cases as well. Area X on Rez has lots of tiny particle effects (everything is made of tiny cubes, kind of like Resogun) and on PS4 there was a bit of smear when you would blow up the big enemies, and some pixel shimmer as stuff would explode. The res was increased there and now you can clearly see each particle and enemies overall have a much cleaner presentation at higher res. Objects at a distance in Until Dawn ROB were much clearer as well, things like the small enemies on level 5 were tough to distinguish sometimes on the dark floor and could be quite blurred, but I found it MUCH easier to make them out on Pro, and there was absolutely ZERO pixel shimmering on the conductor guy's face now on Pro, while on PS4 the shimmer was very noticeable and slightly distracting.

That sucks, makes me not want to buy PSVR if I need a Pro to enjoy it properly :/
Maybe I'll wait till another PS4 iteration, the HDR issue with PSVR is a serious turnoff as well and they should just build in that stupid VR box.

Don't be discouraged, I am extremely satisfied with the performance I got out of the PS4 on PSVR and would definitely recommend it to vanilla users. Pro is definitely a step up, no doubt, but I can confidently say I was just as blown away at PSVR launch as I am at PSVR w/ Pro

Right now it's wait and see. If I see clear or worthwhile improvements to games I plan to actually play I might be swayed. Also really unimpressed with the noise issue. Just deeply unimpressed with Sony's hardware quality in general this gen. PS3 was a McLaren Mercedes compared to what they are putting out now. And I don't mean chip design; I mean everything else.

Shit! I need to see FFXV downsampled shots right now!

I wanna get one this year. Bf1 mp alone is a wortwile investment. All future game will have some enhancments to 1080 owners. This is no brainer.
Also ff15 in 60/1080 seems amazing.

I have to say personally I'm very pleased. The image quality with super sampling happening passively is pretty much bullshot in motion clean. It makes me want to double dip on Tomb Raider just to play it through with the pro patch.

So I know certain games are going to have a patch for the pro.. My question is will there be any benefits towards games without the pro patch? I mean if I throw in AC:BF will there be better IQ? More stable frames?

Can someone provide a comparison shot on the standard PS4? I just played this game last year and I remember it looking very good so I'm not really sure how much better this is compared to the original going from memory alone.

As far as I'm aware the games with no patch/pro support will still run the same.

I think Cerny said they try to do it like you suggested but ran into problems with some games.

I am considering picking on up between now and the end of the year, but its between the pro and the slim. I am mostly picking it up to play Persona 5, spider-man, and KH3. Those games are the ones i am the most excited for but I will go back and play things like the last of us and bloodborne since i missed those exclusives. What do you think would be a better buy? Do we know If the Pro is loud like I've head the OG PS4 is?

Insane For Sony
The PRO is actually better for 1080P users IMO. If I had a 4K telly I'd probably run the Pro at 1080P and let the TV's amazing upscaler do the rest.
That would be a bad idea. There's no way a TV can upscale something better from 1080p than this console can from 1800p. The checkerboard 2160p is not even in the same realm as any possible 1080p TV upscale.

Pro over Slim. You dont even have a PS4? Get a Pro. Dont bother with Slim.

Those games will all benefit from Pro, Spiderman especially. If you're just getting your first PS4, the Pro will definitely be worth the extra $100 over the Slim.

Go for the Pro.
Mine isn't loud at all.

If it's your first, and spending another $100 is not a problem, I'd say go Pro. DF did a noise comparison, and it's about as loud as an OG PS4 under load. YMMV on whether that is a dealbreaker or not. My original PS4 sits under my desk on a shelf, so I rarely hear it.

I almost pulled the trigger yesterday on the Ebay deal and today on the Target deal but currently I am willing to wait until next year as more games come out or are patched to support it. Also, at this point I have yet to see a decent trade in deal. If GS or BB were to offer $200 it would be a no brainier. Especially GS.

Haven't even bothered checking the results on my 1080p TV, I've been wow-ing nonstop at Pro's impact on PSVR image quality. Talk about night and day.

Love hearing this! I am more excited about the PSVR impact then I am about 1080p impact. My 4K TV is coming soon!

EDIT: I am still waiting for my PS4 Pro to arrive from Amazon. I will post my impressions as a 1080p TV user as soon as I have them.

Considering I don't have a PS4 and would like to play a few of the upcoming exclusives I'll most likely be getting the pro to future proof. Though I tried Vive VR yesterday and I'm now wanting to buy one of those next week so pro will have to wait.

You aren't paying $400 in the end because you can easily sell your ps4 for $100+.

Yeah especially if there's a renove plan.

I could get a PRO for 130e trading my ps4 and 2 old games right now. I just don't feel like I need it though, and I also don't like the idea of supporting iterative consoles :/

I'd love to buy one but it's not a good time for me right now financially so I'm going to wait a bit. Otherwise I would have gotten it day 1. The improvements, even on a 1080p screen, are worth it.

BF1 looks absolutely superb. Reminds me on PC Very High Settings tbh. But only played SP so far. My second game was Zombi (still need dat platinum trophy grrr) and call me crazy but even that old non patched game looks better now. I don't know if Pro downsamples every game through the 4k upscaler (if such thing is even possible lol) or if my imagination just go wild. But one thing is for sure. This baby loads extremely fast. Always had a hiccup when Ubisoft logo appears and that is gone now.

Sure everyone will be able to see benefits of it on 1080p. I mean it's not anything new.
Ppl with 1080p TVs don't have any reason not to buy Pro. It's improvement for everybody.

I have a 4K TV and my Pro is coming Monday. Question:

Is it better to play these optimized games at sampled 1080p or at the 4k settings? Which is going to give me the best framerate? That's what I care about most.

1080p will always give you better framerate. (if developers included that option).

4K (native only for some games i guess) will give you better IQ.

Non patched games have no changes graphics wise.
You can get better load times with SSDs though.

Nope no benefits.

Except maybe loading times? People seem to be saying that load times have been reduced even with the stock PS4P drive in unpatched games.

Image quality is insane. And I can finally play BF1 with good frame-rates on operation and conquest mode.

Happy satisfied customer.

Have only tested TF|2, but I noticed the difference immediately. It looks clean as fuck.

Same, and I haven't played it on a OG PS4, but my goodness is this picture quality crisp.
Really stunning.

As I side note the download speed is so much faster with the Pro, and I'm talking wired no wifi. I've downloaded 40 Gigs of Destiny in 2 hours in what would have taken at least twice as long with the base PS4.

Rez Infinite Area X is truly the biggest game for me when talking about Pro enhancements. I went back to R&C and while the IQ is insane, the framerate and motion blur made it look jarring compared to the bombastic performance and visuals of Rez.

I truly hope devs push framerate in their Pro patches.

Thanks to all the 1080p owners posting thoughts, keep em coming its very useful.

To the rest of you, why do we need to hear why you arent buying one there are other threads for that.

EDIT - Never mind.... I misread this as PS4 Pro Owners and getting feedback on a 1080p screen for those that are playing on them.
Not a thread generally asking about people's opinions on PS4 Pro as a 1080p TV owner.
