NPD: Xbox One wins October NPD. Best Selling Console in US 4th Month In a Row

If Xbox wins November I'll eat my fedora, theres just no logical way that can happen...right?

I mean December will be the real fight in my mind, but could you guys think of a situation where the Xbox One wins November?

The only way Xbox One wins November would be via a combination of luke warm demand or shortages of the Pro along with amazing Black Friday deals on the One.

I don't know what to tell you guys but I have seen it consistently for both Canada and the US since it came out. I am overselling the consistentcy but it has been at least once a month if not more. The main place I see them is Microsoft Official store website but they seem to almost always have a price discount and a free game on top of the bundle.
FWIW i paid full price for mine on September 15th at bestbuy. worth every penny!

I guess it all depends on how many ps4 pro preorders there were. I see ps brand taking november. Hope I'm wrong.

Glad more people are finally getting to experience the xbone since the S came out. Great job ms.

Sony is simply complacent. They never went for market share. Always preferred short term profit over long term revenues. Anyway I m not afraid from another block.

I don't get why people always act so surprised and also act as if this trend just couldn't possibly continue. I'm willing to bet that a lot of these X1S sales are to people who own PS4s. When you sell as many consoles as Sony did from launch, sales of the console have to slow down at some point. And MS finally has gotten their shit together now that Spencer has been at the helm for a while - the messaging is finally on point, BC is a great goodwill gesture (even though many people here try to act as if it doesn't matter), and the UHD drive that people swear no one is using is in fact a factor (I now know a few more people who bought one because of this - Best Buy in particular seems to be really pushing it to people buying 4K sets).

I don't think the Pro is going to sell as well as so many seem to think. Not that many people outside of the hardcore are going to get rid of their PS4s and upgrade. Sure, some will, but I'd bet less than 10% of the PS4 base does. People who haven't yet bought a PS4 may opt for the Pro, but I think Sony really needs to work on the messaging to get it beyond the hardcore - most shopping for their first PS4 will get a Slim, I'd bet, as the casual consumer currently won't really know what makes the Pro better (I've had several people ask me).

What I really don't understand is why is it even such a big deal to some that the X1S is selling well right now. I turned on my PS4 not long ago earlier tonight, and it still worked, even with the X1 S outselling it the last few months (my X1 and Wii U are still working as well). Sales trends are always interesting to discuss, but where does the emotion come from?

You know exactly where it comes from, people want "their team" to win

Today was pretty great for the Pro. Sony sent us excellent shipments across all of my district, with more than enough for all each store's preorders, and then plenty of extra stock. We also had consistent interest throughout the day as people were coming in with active questions and regular purchasers. Almost all preorders were picked up at my home store before the end of the day.

I can't give actual numbers, but it definitely exceeded my initial expectations for the system. Very, very positive initial reception, with excellent momentum to build off of.

As to Black Friday ahead - Our deals aren't really as exciting for the console front as some of the others (No gift cards, eh...) However, anyone buying a Slim PS4 would have 3 physical games they could sell (our trade in value for R+C and TLOU isn't much, but maybe elsewhere?), or just having 3 games in general is still a pretty solid start for $249. I have still stood by my statement that Sony should drop a newer, more exciting Slim bundle, and they'll see more core just general interest in it, but it seems that might be right after Black Friday, like how we saw with the Battlefront bundles last year, they'll roll out new stuff, probably a CoD bundle. Seems like the best course.

Our XBOS offering is pretty generic, but I'm sure we'll clear inventory on both. We just need plenty of stock.

I see Xbox winning November as well but it'll be close just because of Black Friday. Still a lot of hype for Xbox One S and Microsoft really advertised the "One Free Game" with XBOS. Sony has a great deal with the Wal Mart PS4 Slim but I still see MS winning November overall.

MS winning numbers each month isn't big. If XB1S starts selling more in larger quantities I'm sure Sony will do something. Otherwise they dont care as long as they hit their projected shipments.

This first half of your post seems strange in a thread about Xbox One winning October NPD.

I guess so? I posted my prediction of the win in the predictions thread based on last months' performance, but really, I was more just going with the general discussion on the above page about the coming months based on turnaround.

I don't understand what is strange, everybody is discussing the reason why a console won/lost and pro is a valid reason as to why Sony may have sold less consoles and any info on its effect is valid in an npd related thread....

Zero chance.

Sony has a brand new(-ish) console launching. They'll sell more Pros than all Xboxes, and will have slims on top of that.

I've been happy with my xb1 since June. Granted, it's the only current gen console I own, but it's been great. MS seems dedicated to making it the best box they can before switching gears to Scorpio territory next year.

No way. The Xbox will likely move over a million units if going by past novembers(I'm guessing 1.1-1.2). Sony aren't going to move that many pros. That would go against almost everything that says price matters the most during this time of year. Also it's not a new console to many many people who don't have a 4K tv or don't care about the upgrades

Here is the thing. Microsoft always always always go crazy deals in nov and Dec to win the holiday. Even last year was the same.

The pro is awesome and I got one. But it's 400$. Compare it to what I believe MS will go for which is 250$ and a game for xbox one S 500gig and that's like half the price for a console that play the same type of gsmes for the casual gamer and parents ) plus a UHD player.
I know each has its exclusives and I know PS pro is much better in terms of GPU .

But for a 200$ (250$ with a game of choice ) , then fuck yeah I am in

What blake said, the Sony brand may outsell Xbox but there is almost zero chance the PS4 Pro is selling 1m+ in a single month. They probably won't even be able to stock that many in a month.

Congrats on MS. It was a given they sell the Xbone like hot cakes. Crazy Bundle deals and pretty much selling the consoles barebones for $200 or less depending of u want to keep the goodies has been making people want to buy an xbox one now. Of course MS is also selling most units at a loss as all those freebies they include aren't cheap to bundle. They're at a point they have to burn money through discounts and freebies to sell hardware units and try to catch up to Sony. Sony not playing the burning cash model with MS means they are comfortable with their revenues are at now that they want to make every penny count now and also they can't afford to burn money easily like MS and still be a healthy company.

I wonder if Sony will match MS' usual holiday aggressiveness this year. With the Pro drawing in bigger revenue, perhaps they'll be willing to take the plunge with the Slim and give it cuts and deals galore.

I don't think the Pro will sell a lot, not a bad amount but not enough to out weigh cheap black friday deals. Nov will be interesting to see if Xbox can do 5 or 6 months in a row.

As last year showed xbox wont always win nov and dec. Just think of Pspro as this years starwars bundle or destinay bundle. That alone is all it takes to outsell xbox during launch. Since both will be priced the same with slims there is no way xbox wins as last year showed. It can't unless you are telling me the ps4 will outsell scorpio when it releases.

But the ps4 slim is getting similar deals???

Yeah I should have clarified that I felt most people were going to pick up X1 or PS4 slims at $50 off plus free games over a Pro. The X1 being pushed as a 4k blu ray player and people buying 4k TVs could help Xbox. We will see .

For reference, November 2015 results.

PS4: 1,539,000
- Battlefront Bundles: 375k
- Black Ops 3 Bundles: 251k
- Everything Else: 913k

XB1: 1,296,000

With the lack of special bundles this year in favor of promoting the Pro I don't see the PS4 doing much over 1 million on its own. XB1 should do at least 1.3m this year.

Pro on the other hand will probably a big event. I'd say a good launch for it is in the 500k-600k range. That would be enough for a clear win over the XB1 in November.

December would be about the same result as whatever happens in November. Total December sales are only slightly bigger than November nowadays and unless PS4 Pro craters or doesn't have the stock, December should also be another PS4 win.

I was all over the South Bay area tonight, trying--and failing--to find and buy a PS4 Pro stand. From what I saw, the PS4 Pro was in great supply and seemed to be selling well, but the PS4 base model seemed to be outselling it.

No way Microsoft takes November, imo.

Incredibly Naive
I think sony has really lost momentum at this point, although I could be wrong. They really don't have any big first party titles like MSFT had with Gears on the way for a bit. I think that's when they'll start gaining some of it back, but for now they just aren't putting out the quality that MSFT is and it's showing. The s overall is just a better deal than the slim.

The marketing and PR from MS this gen seriously needs to be a case study in marketing programs. It's insane just how quickly they've managed to change the image of their product and their brand from the toxic dumpster fire that it was post reveal.

It's been years and years though. They did a good job, but it's cost them absurd amounts of money. Basically the way they did this is by making everything much cheaper. Constant fire sales, bundles, promotions, price drops, etc. They started out as more expensive than the ps4 by 100$ and in the past few years with all the different promos you can get far more for what you pay.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
They deserve it alone for the BC updates - really nice from MS:

Really, really don't expect MS to win now the Pro is out. I don't see how the S can sell more than a console family which has just released a new console.

I would almost guarantee that the Pro will not outsell "Xbox." If you are saying all PS4 models vs Xbox, then that's a different story. Will probably be close.

it appears that MS is doing a really nice job supporting X1.
When the console launched it was a mess both performance and feature wise.

The new X1 S console is amazing and the new dashboard is really great.
If only X1 was that great when it was released I am pretty sure that the sales gap between X1 and PS4 would not be that huge!

This honestly. Microsoft put a bad taste in my mouth near the start of the gen but with how they've handled bc compared with how Sony handled PS2 classics they're coming up smelling like roses. I love both consoles but my Bone is becoming my beloved nostalgia box.
