I remember being wee and sitting on my Mum's knee while we played SMB on NES.

I just got to do that with my wee boy. That's pretty cool.

Tecmo Bowl's "on defense" theme is amazing. I forgot how amazing it is.

My only complaint about the game list is that there aren't enough sports games. Even just adding Blades of Steel would have been great.

Man.....Baseball Stars would've made this thing the greatest ever lol.

Subbed now. This console has made this birthday pretty awesome.
Happy Birthday! (wait... right?)

Like I said, the pages are super thin...cheap. But the page count is accurate. The more I think about it, the more I recommend that anyone interested waits for a below $20 price point. This screams $19.99 MSRP to me.
Thanks for you impressions. I still kinda want it, but thin, cheap pages gives me pause.

Baseball Stars would've been so great. Would've probably gotten me to try and get one for my dad.

Bummer. Well there is still the Kickstarter book on the horizon :)

Also, great OP. Thanks for taking the time to make it Max. :D

I microwave steaks.
I've never played a few of these games, so playing then for the first time was pretty exciting. Beat the first boss in ninja gaiden without dying!

Sucks about having to use a separate USB plug, but I guess at least there's some sort of power cable this time, unlike the N3DS. Baby steps.

Wow, I read on the one review on Amazon that the book left out the Overworld map for Legend of Zelda. It says "Here is a map of the Overworld" but there is no map. Even showed the page with the missing Overworld map. That's awful editing.

Order canceled.

I was told that Nintendo screwed up and shipped less than half of what was expected to a specific retailer.

I am beginning to wonder of there were production issues with the controllers. Next to no controllers were shipped, and if they had yield issues that would constrain the number of systems they could ship as well.

monkeys? u mean the fleamen?

just pace urself so only one spawns at a time then whip them as they fall of the birds so u don't have to deal with their erratic movement

Keep going right. Do not slow down. Hit any monkey immediately as it lands.
oh, I know, thanks. I can reach the boss without dying, but even there there's one of those horrible things throwing fireballs at me.
I think I can beat it if I keep trying, it's just that it's a really stressful stage.

Didn't catch that until you posted, but yep...that's accurate! I thought it was odd that there were zero gatefold inserts. Wonder if others got left out as well.

Yeah, it has a few pages for a few of the games and larger spreads with maps/strats for Zelda, Mario, Star Tropics, Punch-Out, Metroid, Ice Climber, and Kid Icarus after quickly going through it.

You missed my literary classic in the making:

It's actually pretty good stuff, although I wish there was a full page for every game included, but I'll take what I got, since it's really for my wife, lol.

It has a nice foreword from EVP Don James, a technical breakdown of the original NES, some additional historical facts on the system and the 80's technology, etc. They lay out the guide in chronological order based on the timeline of release, so it's actually pretty nice.

I made a separate "retro" OT for the Zelda games, (I really hate when I waste time in the office, lol)

but I don't think I'll post it. It was a fun trip down memory lane though.

Ready for some Bubble Bobble and Mega Man 2 tonight. Two of my all-time favourite childhood classics!

Isn't that the entire premise of NES Remix?

Think would have been cool to throw in the NES Remix challenges as a bonus.

Anyhow not sure if this or the other thread works, but went to Nintendo NY to pick it up and wanted to share some pics.

The line which I was actually surprised by since they already had a midnight launch, but I guess word on it has spread quickly. Few folks behind me were on line because they heard it sold out across the city.

This is incredibly cool. It makes me jealous that Vancouver doesn't have a Nintendo World Store, but I guess it gives me more of an initiative to check it out if I visit NYC.

And I haven't had any luck securing the NES Mini. Game Deals didn't have a unit on hand, so I'm basically out of luck.

For those interested, just jersey numbers at the top of screen for players in Tecmo Bowl, no names. Just blank space where names were.

I was very curious about that, older game with NFLPA stuff and all. Thought they may go with fake names, like TSB on XBLA, but they played it real safe haha.

Wait, what came first: The Trackball Controller or the NES Advantage that shares design cues?

That's how it is on the Virtual Console.

That hardcover book... they missed such an opportunity by not making the actual cover look like an NES cart and the slipcover in the shape of one of those black cartridge sleeves.

Still don't understand how Ice Hockey and Baseball didn't find a way onto this device. Not like licensing was an issue. If it was up to me I would've dumped Pac-Man and Galaga in favor of those two.

Coins use to be a necessary item to collect in Mario games.

Coins have gotten less important since Sunshine, I think. Galaxy made them almost totally unnecessary unless you were so bad at the game that you constantly needed to replenish part of your life bar. I remember being surprised at how much more important Star Bits were in that game.

They tried to make them worth more in Galaxy 2 and SM3DW, but there's no urgency to collect them like in these old SMB games.

On one hand, I'd love to see an NES Classic Mini 2 that has what's missing here, with stuff like Ice Hockey, Kung Fu, Baseball Stars and/or RBI Baseball, Castlevania III, Mega Man 3, Ninja Gaiden II/III, Rygar, Life Force, Pro Wrestling, Skate or Die, California Games, and others.

On the other hand, Nintendo already put most of their heavy hitters on the first console, so it's hard to imagine a lineup that would have as much punch as this one and justify a follow-up NES release. Maybe they could put some previously JP-only stuff on there like SMB2JP , FFII/III, and Earthbound Zero, but that stuff would still only appeal to a niche audience.

Or maybe they could do an all-sports themed one?

My sister stood out in line at Gamestop and picked one up for me this morning. She was the second to last person to get one. The only downside is that they talked her into getting the $15 warranty :(

Regardless I'm thrilled. Hopefully I can snag a second controller soon.

We all know who that RB from the Raiders is ;)

Is there anywhere to still buy this in the UK? I checked Amazon but it's only scalping marketplace sellers selling it for 2x or 3x the price.

Even smaller than I expected! Machine is great though. Just played Dr Mario for a bit before putting it away as a family present for Christmas, brought back so many late 80s early 90s memories. Gonna be a blast over Christmas with my mom and sisters, and then getting to see the nephew and nieces sample Classic Nintendo for the first time :)

Can you reset and save via the controller or just the reset button? How about switch between screen settings during game play?

A spare samsung charger will be used for this for me.
