Three PS4 EU codes, though they might work elsewhere too:

3DBRGWR3QCQ2
3ZRACW8GD7QJ
CT8WYJBLXCLF

Still not really feeling the game, but at least the tearing seems to be gone ;) Will give it another few goes though!

Played a bit of this last night and was utterly bored by it sadly. I loved 1080 and Amped 3 (and SSX to come extent) so thought I would enjoy this :(

I spent about three hours with the beta. And I love the concept and the idea, but it's the feel that's off to me. Some times gaining speed and going off what looks like a snowy cliff with enough height for a truck jump results in nothing but an awkward hop. The trick controls also leave a lot to be desired, almost as if tricks are just a secondary system to traversal which is upsetting.

It feels mushy. Trying to use the shoulder buttons for a grab while rotating the analog stick has been done in many games but it feels odd in Steep. I love the concept, the ride cutomization and the movement zipping down hills, but the trick system just doesn't work for me.

I wonder how well it will do based on the premise. The alpha didn't do anything for me. I don't think the beta will either

Three friend codes here.

The alpha had a pretty shallow trick system, with only the ability to spin or roll. That's it.

I don't really like the g-force system. It pretty much discourages people from going for huge high-flying jumps and tricks, which to me seems counterproductive, since that's what most people will want to do.

The whole game is pretty shallow too, and seems like it'll flop unless they drastically change the way you progress. Right now, the only thing you do is compete in races, freestyles, and a couple of other event types to increase your level. A higher level grants access to new mountain areas. Aside from using the currency to unlock new cosmetics, there isn't much else to do.

I'm struggling to find something positive to say about the beta experience (PC).

The m+kb controls aren't the greatest. I switched to using the XB1 controller but things still don't feel like they control very well.

The camera movement doesn't feel like you're going very fast in third person and the camera panning has some issues going on with landscaping in the distance. It almost feels like a fish eye effect where the landscape is warping unrealistically.

Gliding down a mountain pass feels very stale. There's no sense of speed and there's no rush associated with it. The first person mode is very jerky/sensitive and it leaves you unable to follow what's going on at all. There arguably could be some sensitivity adjustments I need to change here, but whatever is default is nauseating.

At least in the beta, there are invisible walls that force bring up the map when you cross too far. It really takes you out of the vastness of the mountain range.

The UI needs to be toggleable or have some way to dismiss the huge sections when you just want to free roam.

There's no SLI support, but I guess that's not surprising. At least 21:9 is supported by default (maybe that's why I'm experiencing a lot of camera issues?).

The sound effects and the crunching of the snow are nice.

This feels like a huge miss to me. So far it doesn't feel like there's anything exhilarating about any of their sports options.

Rotating feels very awkward and lacks precision.
There is no grinding ledges or jibbing in the beta.

If this is the final product ill pass.

Hi there,

Just cheekily begging for a PS4 EU code if anyone can help.

Impressions not seeming very positive from some of the comments above though? That's a shame, this game had the potential to be a breath of fresh air in a market full of murder sims.

I think people are missing the point of this game. The focus isn’t on massive tricks and big jumps. It’s about exploring the massive world and finding the best lines. The sense of freedom is absolutely amazing. Carving down a mountain with almost no limits to where you can go feels so good.

One of the best races I’ve done was one where there were no checkpoints, just a finish line about 5km away. You’re left to choose the route down.

I’m genuinely blown away with this game and I think it’d really sad that the general impressions are negative. For me it’s virtual escapism at it’s finest.

Also I can’t understand the negative comments about the sense of speed. It’s absolutely incredible how fast it feels flying down a mountain.

Exactly. I have really *no idea* where those negative comments come from. It's not perfect, but all those complaints, I really don't get them.

People are looking for the wrong thing, they're going in expecting SSX when it's actually completely different.

For those who initially weren't so impressed try it again but don't focus on the tricks. Explore the world, find some cool runs and just carve down the mountain. It is really fantastic when you treat the game like it's intended. As I said before, it is pure virtual escapism.

The game is also really impressive technically. Literally 0 load times after the initial load and a massive world. The map is also ridiculous, you can zoom all the way in and see everything in detail. It's crazy.

I doubt many people were expecting it to be like SSX, based on what was shown prior to any of these betas. It always looked more like Amped/Stoked to me.

I appreciate having a large mountain to explore (I love open world games) but the core gameplay still needs to entertain and for me this doesn't all that much. It seems like it has more going for it than SNOW at least. For wingsuiting and paragliding I think I would rather knock about in Just Cause 3, where there's a better sense of aerodynamics at play. Perhaps Just Cause 4 should introduce snowboarding into the mix haha.

I've yet to play it but, despite the reviews, Infinite Air looks to be the more promising game for snowboarding if you have the patience to learn the controls. Though again I say this without having played it yet.

Checking into the thread since I've played it.

I like this a lot more than I expected to. As someone who was a fan of SSX, it feels like this is a more "adult" like game just because there's more than just snowboarding in this game.
I'm fine with this game not being a trick focused game cause after awhile it gets old.

For those who didn't bother getting into the Alpha or Beta, my general take away from this is that it will last me a long time if I get this game. It's pretty to look at it, there's no "forced" story to it so it's not like you have to get through some slow paced campaign. It's an open world and they kind of just throw you in there which is good and bad. It's bad cause the controls feel weird as all and take forever to get used to, but it's good cause it's all about learning your playstyle.

There's multiple ways to play (snowboarding, ski-ing, cross country flying and using a wingsuit to fly). This help creates a diversity so it doesn't get completely boring after awhile. It's kind of the same Ubisoft formula in the sense that it's an open world, big map and ton of objectives to go do.

My biggest complaint at all for this game is that the controls are probably the worst thing about it. It just seems like they're completely awful unless you play this longterm and they slowly become muscle memory. The camera is also awkward when rotating around, so is sprinting and a big portion of the game just feels awkward. It'll be a good game.. when it goes on sale for a price of like $20-40.

If the reviews praise it and there is a lot of improvement from the alpha, I'll consider it.

But the base of what I played from the alpha, it just wasn't fun.

After a few hrs it's fairly neat. Looks much better than it did at e3. Better than Stoked, wish it was a little more like 1080 Avalanche for tricks and movement. Though still having trouble with timing on jump tricks and rotations.

Probably already mentioned in the thread, but what is up w the landings? Looks like there is zero impact on the character at all, like he's being lowered to the ground on strings ever so gently. I want a serious impact! it's actually very odd

I think the biggest offender in this game is no grind. The trick system is already pretty hollow it's a shame they didn't implement jibs. It's a game that neither want to be ssx or skate and falls a bit flat inbetween... Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good experience but not groundbreaking.

As I said before it will be really good game few months after release when they add more tricks.

Oh god, I completely forgot about this game's beta. I don't think I'd want to play it again anyway, played the alpha and thought it was just very simple fun at best.

Beta was okay... I really liked the sense of speed when skying big slopes, sometimes it was insanely fast.
Controls are simple but weird, they need to add a way to (for example while skying) push on the ski sticks to move forward, even if the slope is in the other direction. Sometimes the character just slides backwards because the slope is that way, it's really irritating.

They should remove that parachute thing. It's slow, it's boring. Everything is fast except this.

After playing the beta, I'm on the fence on this game. I've gotten more accustomed to the snowboarding and trick system, and when I was consistently nailing tricks down, it was a very satisfying feeling.

My issue is the game doesn't explain its mechanics very well. I have no idea why sometimes I land after doing a trick my "g-force" meter goes down. I don't know how to move faster in the paragliding challenges or what exactly that beeping meter is. I think I could enjoy a game like this but I wouldn't pay full price for it so far.
