Persona 5 delayed to April 4, JP voices available as free DLC at launch

When will Persona 5 actually be released in the west?

Ohohoho, I'm 70% done with the Japanese version, but I was going to buy the US version to have it on my shelf any way; Japanese voice dlc ensures I will also play my US copy.

Also, english Persona dubs have been great in the past, I'd even say they're some of the best from the localised games I've played. I'd be happier about dual audio if this wasn't the case, but as it is I'll probably end up just playing with the english VAs anyway.

Awesome.Persona 4's English VA was great but i don't want to hear English when i play games in Japanese settings. I don't mind the delay January-February was way too packed anyway.

You see, my plans were simple. Persona 5 was the only game I planned a instant purchase in January-February (with other small 3DS games). I intend to buy it on 14th of February, complete it in like a month, and then I would plug-off the PS3 as it would have been the last game I would have played on it, and then I would have walked to the store, buy a Switch and enters the next-gen. Everything was planned to be smooth, no time to loose, everything to gain.

And then, they fucking delay it.
Life's hard.
Now we'll just have people bitching about the font instead.
And Igor's new voice in both languages.

I would take an additional 6 month delay (maybe even more) on all future atlus games if they included the japanese VO. This is so huge if they keep it going with other games.

How fitting

What's a few months to waiting 10 years? Besides you already know P5 is great! Going off early impressions from people who played it. While it's a bummer, everything will be fine in the end.

What does age have to do with wanting a different language of audio? Genuinely curious.
In many countries (those which don't have widely-spoken languages), dubs are something only done for children's media.

As an adult you are supposed to either learn the other language or read subtitles.

I'm pretty upset, I wanted this pretty damn bad and it was coming out just a few days after my birthday. Now it's pushed back to around when I imagine Mass Effect is coming out. And as much as I love Persona, I'm gonna probably end up shooting aliens instead. This really sucks since it would've been the only thing I'd be interested in in the beginning of the year other than Horizon. And the Switch comes out before it. Shit, I'm gonna be flat broke before this even comes out.

Persona 5 is going to be the first game in the series I will play so this doesn't bother me much (lotta games on Q1). Sucks for the fans who are waiting for a long time.

Delay the switch purchase then, not like it's going to have a stellar library with must buy titles in March.

I mean, it may not be the dub directly, but the President directly said that it was due to localization concerns.

And at the least, while I didn't screencap it, PersonaCentral has the following...
Right, but there are a lot of factors. Especially bugs that are introduced due to language changes.

So I guess all those old Godzilla film's dubs were for the tots?

I see your point, but many of us have been hoping for Dual-Audio for a long time and the chances for it to actually happen were close to 0. The delay sucks and clearly the localization process should have been much faster (which is not only Atlus USA's fault, since afaik Atlus JP didn't even let them touch the localiazion until P5 was nearly done) and needs to be critisized, but frankly it's hard for me to not be at least somewhat happy about the inclusion of Dual-Audio. Sorry if that's not the case for you, but you don't have to shame others for it.

At least you have a choice now. You didn't have this for TMS.

I understand your position and I think your reaction is totally valid. You acknowledge that the delay is shitty but you're happy about the dual audio as you should. But I simply don't think "dual audio yes worth it" that some people has said here is a thoughtful reaction. Dual audio fans are in the vast minority and it shows no sympathy for the rest of us. And I think some are so excited about the dual audio news that they don't realise they're being manipulated. The delay is objectively a bad thing. Being happy for dual audio and call out atlus for the delay is not mutually exclusive.

Sounds a bit backwards considering the themes of this game : ^)

Honestly, I'm sticking with the dub on the first playthrough purely because I'm used to Persona being english voiced.

There's freaking Mario at launch.

But now I'm expecting the Switch to get delayed as well to like June and that every japanese games have decided to fuck all my plans because they hate me.

After FFXV, I'm going to give the series another shot. The first 5 hours or so of Persona 4 were such a slog that I was done with it before it really got started. I'm sure it's great if I can just keep with it. I have one of the 3DS games... the Labyrinth one or whatever, and I found myself kinda into it there for a bit, but I only play it maybe a few times every couple weeks before bed so I haven't made much progress.

This looks pretty cool though and I legitimately want to get into the series.

Don't care about the delay tbh, I'm just happy to see dual audio. It's becoming increasingly ridiculous to not have that option.

I don't understand why anyone over the age of 12 wants to hear dubs but hey that's just my opinion. More options for everyone is a good thing.

Whereas I don't understand why anyone would want 100 hours of listening to a language they don't understand and reading subtitles. But they delayed the game to appease that incomprehensible demographic (I know they said that's not why but I straight up don't buy it).

At least the game is still coming out in Europe in a timely fashion. And maybe P5 threads won't be so annoying now.

Holy shit great news! I'd rather wait a couple of months and get dual audio then nothing. Went from wait for a sale to day 1 buy.

But the dual audio is not the reason for the d... I don't even know why I bother. I'm bowing out of the thread. Way too salty to stick around here.

Yeah, in my country kids movies / series have dubs. After they can read everyone just expects to hear the original audio and reads subs.

People called Romanes they go the house?
Right, but there are a lot of factors. Especially bugs that are introduced due to language changes.

For sure, there's a bunch of stuff that could be involved - anything from switching street signs and the like, to even the sound-effects on actions.

But to me, 'English script' means something to do with either the script itself, or the VO execution of said script. Both/either of which require redoing of VO lines associated with said issues.

And as you say, it could be a translational issue as well. We'll probably never know for sure.
