What is your favorite moment in a God of War game?

I thought this would make a great thread in particular for these games... There are so many climactic moments in this series!
There are just so many to pick from. I'll pick one that was not necessarily the BEST moment in terms of story moments, but just made me go "wow, that was awesome."

Probably the entire snake train sequence in God of War: Ascension, if i have to get specific, the last snake ride.
Just the sense of scale and *Huber voice* VERTICALITY really had me hyped the entire time. Also, the panning of environments as you fight atop the snake really had me in awe. I loved watching the red snake pass by overhead while you were battling atop the blue one and how you would have to toggle between staying atop the python and swinging overhead after obstacles would block your way.

I think an added bonus to my astonishment was due to me not expecting much new from Ascension after playing GoW3, so that entire sequence caught me by surprise.

PS: i remembered to stop pressing "O" in GoW3 ;)

The 1st one.

edit - oh I thought it was which game.

Still I prefer the story of the first game the best. The following games got a lot more sadistic. GO3 was where for me they went too far.

Probably the opening scene from the original game. I was pretty blown away by it back in 2005. I didn't think my PS2 had it in him!

God of War 2 in the super dark room with the bright contrasting background where you're fighting 'that guy'. It's not anything bombastic but I really liked it.

God of War 3 opening. I played the trilogy back to back on my brother's Playstation when he came to visit me once, and watching the cgi cutscene at the end of 2 with the titans climbing and all and then popping that GoW3 disc in only to have that crazy scene in actual gameplay mere moments later was nothing short of mindblowing.

Easily the first sequence in God of War 3. The visuals were insane. The setpiece was insane. The ending was nuts.

The game never topped that first hour.

The opening to God of War 3, the last boss fight in Ascension stand out to me.

The entire first level in God of War 2... God of War 3 also had a great intro, but it felt like a bigger version of what I already experienced in 2. Making your way around an entire city while fighting a statue brought to life... It's my second-favorite game level, coming in just behind the train in Uncharted 2.

The intro of God of War 2 is one of the most nostalgic gaming moments for me.

The whole sequence from the beginning, through the colossi battle, to the final cutscene when Zeus "kills" Kratos.

Edit: ^ hah

Is Ascension being remastered on PS4?
I don't think so. :(

Criminally underrated game. I just replayed it recently and it's fucking amazing. Only the weird beginning holds it back at bit.

@Thread: Can't pick a specific moment but my favorite part of the series is the whole Rings of Pandora section. Still love the level design of that area to bits cause it really felt like the gods made this as a test so only the strongest human could pass it.

1. Trial of Archimedes in Ascension.

First time there was a sequence in the game where I had to utilize all the skilsets and master them to progress.

2. Sisters of Fate Boss fight in GOW2

My favorite Boss Fight in the series

3. All the exploration in Pandora's Temple In GOW1.

I loved the lore behind its creation involving the architect and his descent into madness with all his children dying because of it.

God of War 3 (My favorite GOW).

Cronos fight... i was blown away, so much in fact that i saved this part in a seperate save file just to show it to friends who were all amazed by the scale of the fight and the graphics that even to this day look great.

Probably the early parts of 2, it was immediately obvious what a step up from the first game it was, in terms of spectacle at least

Not really sure why but I never got round to playing 3 or Ascension, think I still have both of them in the shrink wrap

The first 20 minutes of GoW3 were amazing. Fighting on and IN a Titan, all leading up to the Poseidon fight is probably the best intro to any game I've played in my 40 years of gaming and the only time I would use the label 'epic'.

Lots of different moments stand out. I like running along the massive chain to the Steeds of Time in GoWII. I like the boss battles against Perseus and Hercules. I like that moment in GoWI when you go through the streets of Athens and come out the back of the city where Ares is fighting the tiny armies. I like how the Temple of Pandora is a huge rotating puzzle. And I love the battles against Poseidon and the Colossus of Rhodes just for the sheer scale and epicness of both of them. I don't know if I could pick a single favourite moment from the series because they have been incredibly consistent overall.

Having just played God of War 3 remastered last week I think my favorite moment in that game was you get that first glimpse of just how badly Kratos' revenge is fucking over the world with the lands being flooded and the sun no longer coming out. Things continuously got worse as he slayed more gods and I really liked that it didn't completely shy away from the potential ramifications of his actions.

The opening scene with the Poseidon fight was pretty cool too.

Not a boss fight but I really liked Pandoras Temple in the first game along with all the challenges. But yeah, Cronos and Hydra are hard to top, Hercules is really cool also.

I still absolutely love that moment where you fight that beast's head in that small room in Chains of Olympus. It was really graphically stunning and actually gave off a nice feeling of claustrophobia. Too bad he's a beginning, easy boss, but as it is, he was pretty fun. Color palette might have something to do with that.

Otherwise the series has very overrated openers.

Another moment was when Kratos moves the chains and horses in God of War 2. On my projector the scale felt incredible.

That one part where kratos brutally eviscerates someone who fucked him over in the past, enabled those that did, or just happened to be in the same floating paradise.

I really need to play Ascension.

OT: Colossus of Rhodes really stood out to me when I first saw it at my cousin's house. It's actually what sold me on giving the God of War series a shot.

I really enjoyed ripping that pompous chump Helios's head off. I also broke into a huge grin when your bro Herc comes to fight you.

All my favorite moments are just various Kratos lines.

Atheeeenaaaaa!!!

I'll miss the voice actor,he added the barker effect.
Bonus points for anyone who knows about the barker effect lol

GoW I-Hydra opening battle
GoW II- Steeds of time
GoW III- Cronos battle

Had to get my top 3 in no particular order :p

I can't name one now, haha. There are so many awesome moments in the franchise. One of these I haven't seen mentioned is the Hades boss fight. The way he appears from the darkness, tries to steal Kratos's soul is great. The boss battle was also amazing.

The opening Hydra fight in the original. It was one of those rare gaming moments where I was truly blown away.

Oh god, I don't know. I really don't know. This is ridiculously tough.

I guess the Kratos' clones segment in the first game where you mow down increasingly greater numbers of enraged versions of yourself in your mind as a typhoon of chaos tears apart the church you're in until you're fighting scores of the dudes on a tiny, floating rock as you protect your family. The music really makes the scene for me - The track that plays in the fight is my favorite piece from all of God of War.

I can't nail down just one easily. The games are so visceral and pull you into the murderous action so well that I feel engaged constantly. A rare feat.

PS: I think the opening to God of War 3 is really overrated myself. I'm not sure what's supposed to be exciting about. I actually barely remember it. The opening to 2 stands out way more to me - You descend from Olympus and tackle a giant fucking statue all around the city, fighting it in a bunch of different ways as you periodically get breaks and the game teaches you the basics while you're at it while keeping veterans engaged by the intensity of the fight. It's structured so well.

PS2: I don't like the first half of Ascension at all. The basic mechanics are changed for the worse and the game focuses on those changes and suffers for it. Nixing roll invincibility and having you fight enemies in an enclosed space? Making parry timing super awkward and then forcing you into tons of fights which ask you to parry?
Ascension gets way better once you reach the Trial of Archimedes. So much better that I wondered if the two halves of the game were even made by the same team. It's like night and day.

Euryale boss fight, for me. It's probably about as good as boss design can get gameplay-wise within the basic God of War combat framework.

Nothing will ever beat the opening to GoW3.

Final boss of Acension comes close though.

After loving 1, 2, and PSP 1...

...I barely made it through 3, and PSP 2.

....so ya my best moment would have been the reveal trailer -- right when he's teaching his son and he's saying "don't apologize...just do better"

The Kronos boss fight in GOW III is still one of the highlights in scale and boss fights overall for me.

The final fight in Ascension was really impressive as well.

The Pegasus portion of GoW2's intro. My 16 year old self was almost crying at how great the whole intro was and Pegasus was just icing on the cake. I'm not nearly as impressed now of course (10 years later) but when I first played it... Man, you know that feeling when you play a game at a perfect time in your life? That's what this whole game was for me.

Bashing Apollo into a bloody mess is number one. The way you could mash the button was nasty and he is my favorite Greek god so it was kinda funny

Runner up would be Hermes for catching that fast fuck and stealing his shoes/cutting his feet
