Why am I seeing neon, glowing plants on a barren, no-flora planet? It's almost always around caves
Not sure - algorithms?

Why are caves almost always the same looking? They're all lit up like an xmas tree and styled the exact same(so far)
For sure algorithms.

Then there's the flying drones. Why are they literally on every planet(so far)? Why would they be on a "barren" planet. Makes no sense.
That's a result of the lore.

The best tip is to walk in those situations. It uses far less Life Support. In can vary from planet to planet. But never use the jet pack. If you can find resources, just stand still and mine them from that spot. I died around 30 times and started to believe it to be impossible, but now it's much easier now I know the rules. I haven't upgraded a thing and haven't died for a good few hours, all because I understood the rules...and maybe because there is a planet full of Thamium9 in my system :D

Walking wasn't really an option. The storm was so bad I could barely make it 5 feet from my door. I simply couldn't make it to resources before my hazard protection would die. But the lesson is - plan ahead. I'm never landing anywhere again without a fully-fuelled launch thruster.

It's common ? it's been 2 days i'm looking for it ( 2 hours at a time) ... feels like my game is bugued.
I guess i'll check more star systems tonight

Are you scanning planets from space? It will tell you if it has Spadonium. It's in the little cacti, so it will always be on desert planets.

You might need to switch planets and *temporarily* build a new base.

I was on a mostly water planet and couldn't get any base quest markers to pop because the planet I was on didn't have any abandoned buildings or ancient monoliths. Once I switched planets I found a new base, I only built the science and farmer stations, the quests popped, I finished them off and then relocated back to my original planet and rebuild my old base.

The resources you used on the base will go into the cache so you're not actually losing resources when you relocate. It is a pain in the ass if you spent a lot of time designing your base (like I did).

I was on a water planet and he pointed me to an abandoned building in the middle of the ocean. Swimming is almost impossible on Survival, at least without the underwater upgrade. The fact that your oxygen goes down so fast and that you float just under the surface means you have to keep jetpacking out of the water, which then kills your life support... It's fine for short bursts but I wasn't going to make it to the middle of the ocean, let alone the sea bed. Moved my base to a desert planet instead, lol.

When I last played No Man's Sky many weeks ago I was loitering on a planet that was littered, literally littered, with Vortex Cubes. "Cube Deluge" I think I named it.

Now I return with the 1.1 update, and when you scan the planet from space indeed it lists "Vortex Cubes" as the #1 resource, and indeed there are still a few there. But now it's hard to find any caves at all, and when you do, I've only found a couple cubes in there, no longer the hundreds from before.

Good, I guess, as it balances the game a bit more, but it's still a bit disappointing.

I built my first base on the planet anyway, though :)

I agree that the cave biomes are a little weak. I was hoping they would fix the plants in all caves thing in this update. At least I'm not seeing those damn seashell things everywhere now.

Also, while I understand why you would have thamium9 available on barren planets, do they have to still look like flowers? It does spoil the 'barrenness' a little.

So I didn't really go for species scanning before the patch but now it seems Polo needs me to have at least the first scanning achievement unlocked. I remember people having problems with that achievement, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right.

I've discovered all species on two planets so far (the "walkers", birds and fish that is), the journey log says they're 100% scanned but the achievement isn't unlocking. Do I have to scan all of the flora as well?

You have to hover over the 100% complete in the menu and upload it

Did you actually "click" on the 100% scanned thing to cash it in so to speak?

There are lore reasons why they're on every planet. I barely notice them on barren planets as they're very passive, generally.

Anyone found gold since the new update? Can't find it anywhere, even on planets that say they have them.

Haven't seen any lore yet. Just wish they would only show up if I did stuff instead of always being around

Maybe I've just been lucky. I've collected too much and begun selling it. Though that doesn't help you. lol

I'll probably go back and give it another try. Might as well, as I did pay $60 for it. Not expecting to be sucked in by anything new, though.

So it sounds like Survival is totally for me. Does this mean starting a brand new game? Is my old save now a "Normal" mode save? Will be a shame to abandon that absolutely gorgeous ship.

I actually wouldn't mind starting from scratch discovery and upgrade-wise, but it would be nice to keep the alien words I'd learned, spent a ton of time doing that for long stretches and it would be a cool leg up.

The inclusion of a Creative mode is a pretty bold move and I think more than anything else speaks to the scope of what they want to add to the game over time.

People make survival mode sound real awesome. More along the lines of how the game HG describe the game at one point would work. Seems like it needs more refinement/additions/balancing though.

I think Spadonium is tied to star color or something. Wasn't able to find any since the day the patch came out then suddenly last night my entire galaxy was just brimming with the stuff. Keep warping.

Is it just me or are the mountains much more mountainy in 1.1

Definitely. And the terrain in general feels 'bigger' and more dramatic.

It's a new game with a new save. Your old save is now 'normal mode'. Which is still a little harder than before actually.

It's actually quite interesting starting over, as the update has changed the flow of the early game quite a lot.

Yeah your old save is converted to normal mode.

Yeah, creative mode to me says they are finally on the path of what they want this game to be. Which personally Im excited for, I welcome creating your own cozy space base and calling it home.

Freighters look completely fantastic. I'm not sure how much I'll get into base building, might depend on if I start or find a planet I really want to call home for a while, but I need a freighter as soon as I have the coin.

Kind of a shame there is so much else out and enticting me to play right how. FFXV is coming in the mail today ffs. I really want to put some time into this.

Well, a new game it is then. Definitely up to the challenge. I was thinking I'd fly back to my starter system and park there on my normal save because I documented it really well and it would be a fun "zoo," but I remembered I've hopped a black hole. Oh well.

Item limit for the base on PS4 is a bummer. Especially since it applies to stuff like windows or decorations. I needed to delete a bunch of windows just to plant my gravitino balls and pearls.

Really want to platinum this game but it is neigh impossible to find every single animal on the planet. It's all random. You just have to be insanely lucky. I'm stuck on 12/14 for hours now. Why the fuck is it like this.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
Went back to find it and had to rehost the images from my starter system survey post, thankfully I could still edit it. I really did enjoy that system. Will be doing this again on my new survival save.

I can't find any of the stuff for life support and launching. Think it is called plutonium. =/
Red crystals, if there isn't any on the surface of the planet try caves. If you can't find any cave entrances and you have the upgrade, burrow into the planet with your plasma launcher.

Like, you've never found them all on a single planet?

If you post a screenshot of the discoveries pane for it I can at least tell you if the ones you're missing are likely to be land, sea, or air creatures.

I check land sea air and cave both nights and day on this one planet. I making the effort to platinum, leave the space pirates and warping last but finding animals is so obnoxious.

How can you tell where I should be looking?

Just give up and try on another planet, I've landed on planets where I get 7 out of 10 right when I jump out of the ship. Some planets may only have a few creatures also.

Also, are you aware that when you have your visor up, red dots indicate unscanned creatures?

They are grouped together in a certain order, although now that I think about it I can't remember if it is land -> sea -> air or land -> air -> sea and I'm at work so I can't check :p

Mines all over. Land at bottom, top and middle so I think that is just wishful thinking.

They mightve changed some of the algorithms for the update Hawky, that makes finding fauna harder. Ive heard that plutonium, for example, is much much harder to find.

It really is a whole new galaxy in terms of arrangement.

That is deeefinitely possible.

Waaait, am I reading you can teleport back to your home base/planet from other systems??? How does that work?

Now I really want to go back and colonize Amethys..

Or is my starter planet likely to be so changed as to be unrecognizable now?

They regenerated the galaxy so its possible that your Amethys as you remember it is gone. And yeah, planting a base in a world and making that system your "home" is neat.

How it works is that space stations(and your freighter? Havent gotten one yet) will have teleporters that take you back to your base. I believe that you can also teleport to recently found systems(up to 4 locations are saved).

No, the creatures still follow a certain pattern on the lists. Based on earlier posts on this, the order might be slightly different on PC and PS4 versions, but it remains constant. See this post.
I assume that the differences between my and Spywares listing is due to us playing different versions.

And yes, this remains true in the 1.11 version as well, based on the 5 planets I've 100%-scanned since it arrived.

What happens to the stuff you have in containers when you start a new base? Does it gets transfered or do you have to take it out first?

And then you can teleport from your base back to that space station...? Or is it like a one-way recall...

This all sounds great though. I just hope they add a way to look up and plot a course to any previously discovered system in your Atlas, so that you can make a journey back somewhere with intent or just to visit again.

You could teleport back.

Lets say your base is in System X. And youre currently at system 4, after visiting system 1, 2, and 3.

When you teleport back to your base, you can teleport to the space stations in 1,2,3, 4. I think. Thats what Ive heard, survival is tough so I havent built my base yet lol.

And yeah, this update gives me alot of hope in the future of NMS.

Finally!

Haven't been able to find blueprints for the hyperdrive upgrade but came across a crashed ship that has one. Be nice to jump to some different star systems.

Now to find a decent planet to build a base on. Or buy a freighter then build a base...

Hmm.

I did that the first time I built one. Press Y to rotate and you can get the interface inside.

Anyone found gold since the new update? Can't find it anywhere, even on planets that say they have them.

Ugh haha thanks, I completely forgot you could rotate things.

Yeah, my home base planet has gold all over. Some of the largest pillars of gold I've seen. Which is good because I have a long ways to go before I can afford that freighter...

Item limit for the base on PS4 is a bummer. Especially since it applies to stuff like windows or decorations. I needed to delete a bunch of windows just to plant my gravitino balls and pearls.

Yeah, it seems an odd limitation when the inside of those freighters are pretty complex. Granted they don't also have to render terrain and flora/fauna, but I hope they can optimize that.

I haven't even hit that limit though as I have so many building quests left to do. Spent my whole session last night searching for a humble Gek Charm, never found one. No traders in two systems were selling them! None in any loot boxes. I don't know how some of you have progressed so far already!

Hmmm I'm kinda torn now as to if I should restart in Survival or continue my existing Normal save.

They made Normal mode quite a bit harder, as they made elements scarcer and put some behind new crafting gates. One of my ship shield upgrades got knocked out and it took me a few hours to find enough Titanium (which is now behind a new gate) to fix it. There's also more wildlife, so walking around on a dangerous planet can be...actually well, if not dangerous, at least a bit heart-pumping.

Are you scanning planets from space? It will tell you if it has Spadonium. It's in the little cacti, so it will always be on desert planets.

I do .. and i never found one so far.. will try again tonight

I can at least be satisfied on the fact that i have plenty of other stuff already

You lose it if you don't take it out. Only the materials you used to build the base are refunded. Found that out the hard way!

This isn't true. The materials will stay in the containers, not go to the base cache. That's why they're numbered.

If you put 500 rigogen in container #1 and then change bases, all 500 rigogen will still be in container #1 when you rebuild it.

I'm brand new to the game but I watched a lot of streams on launch. Should I stick to normal mode at first, like would survival be too frustrating for a first time save? And is creative mode a viable way to play the main experience, or just meant to be very specific and cordoned off?

I say stick to normal for now.

Survival from what I read its pretty hard

I wish the storage container inventory showed up with the other inventory screens, at least as a read-only list of what you have. I don't even remember what I've put in there, and it'd be nice not to have to jump back to base to check.

Sorry if this is old/isn't the place to post it, but if y'all were wondering what became of that advertising suit against Hello Games...well, here you go:

"We understood that the screenshots and videos in the ad had been created using game footage, and acknowledged that in doing this the advertisers would aim to show the product in the best light. Taking into account the above points, we considered that the overall impression of the ad was consistent with gameplay and the footage provided, both in terms of that captured by Hello Games and by third parties, and that it did not exaggerate the expected player experience of the game. We therefore concluded that the ad did not breach the Code."

Link to the ruling: https://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adju...-Corporation/SHP_ADJ_351045.aspx#.WEBSzbIrKM_

I assume this won't change anyone's opinion on Murray or Hello Games (only content patches will likely shift that at this point), but it does support those who felt the initial reactions at launch were hyperbolic. Curious about what y'all think.
