Danganronpa Community Thread: Thrills! Chills! Kills! Despair!

I'm liking the vibe of that music.

Just checked the Danganronpa subreddit. I hadn't seen this Limited Edition box art before:

Kaede is definitely this game's protagonist

I'm definitely not expecting a switch of sorts to happen at some point in the game, no sir

I'm super psyched for her and i'm definitely looking forward to her definitely hype moment at the end, like her predecessors

what if, if this game is "hundreds of years in the future"... Kaede dies early on and her consciousness is later uploaded to Kiibo's body or something

Tbh I'm not ruling anything out, but in any event it seems like Kiibo will be a major character regardless of if Kaede lives or dies. His design has definitely grown on me, and I like the few fragments of dialogue we've seen from him, so I'm fine with that.

(I'm still calling Shuuichi as the chapter 1 or 2 killer, btw. The SHSL Detective trying to pull off the perfect crime and "guiding" Kaede to the wrong conclusion, or waiting one trial to see who's the smartest one and then offing her.)

A protag switcheroo is exactly the kind of shit Kodaka would pull.

DR2 already turns into MGS2 at the end and now he's promoting a game with an MC and a character thats just Raiden

It might be too obvious

They certainly are making a push for Ki-bo character. But making him central to the LE box is making me wonder if it isn't a red herring or not, as his name is certainly making fun of the whole hope-despair dichotomy of the Hope's Peak saga. It's not like Kodaka hasn't pulled something like this before, and making him a quirky character is certainly appealing to the fanbase.

But the cover is really good.

EDIT: Trailer with subs.

Ki-bo seems to works so much better as a character rather than as a protagonist

Hopefully this is a dynamic that persists throughout the game, and he doesn't take on a "serious" personality when she dies

Apparently you all forgot how they pushed Sayaka before the release of DR.
Now with him on the cover of the CE it's even more likely Ki-bo will be the first victim.

Abstraction Games posted this on their Twitter

Here is a #sneakpeak of some work we're doing for the #danganronpa 1•2 Reload PS4 version..

Dunno what it's supposed to mean, maybe for a game selection menu or something else, who knows. Can I hope it's a tease towards higher res assets? I'm probably reaching but I can dream.

Also I dunno if we knew they were doing the PS4 port before now. It's in good hands. I assume they're handling UDG for PC/PS4 too.

Just remembered this out of nowhere: the AX 2015 Zero Escape 3 Panel where Kodaka made an appearance.

In it, he mentioned how he knew what ZE3's ending was and how it was "the most out of this world thing." He talked about how he didn't want to fall behind with Danganronpa V3, too.

Straight up: I think V3 will be the test to show whether Kodaka's actually a hack or not. That Nagito 2.0 dude with the ??? talent seems to be setting people abuzz. I'm gonna be real interested in hearing impressions of this game.

Not sure if this was already known, but DRV3 will have cross-save support, so you can share the same file across the Vita version and PS4 version. Note that this isn't cross-buy; you'll still need to pick up two copies of the game.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony is confirmed for the West sometime in 2017.

Bummer we aren't getting the 2.5 anime.

Edit:
Oh, I guess this explains it:

pretty sure funimation has the licensing rights for anime.

Edit 2:

New trailer, that also confirms the new Monokumas will be called the Monokuma Cubs in the english versions of the game.

TIME TO PRE-ORDER ANOTHER LE.

Debating if I should stick with Vita since that's how I played the series so far or go for the PS4 version so I can see it on a bigger screen/higher resolution

Holy GOD that LE. This is very tempting, even though $80 is too rich for my blood at the moment.

For comparison's sake....

DR1's LE: $50 ($10 more than normal)
DR2's LE: $60 ($20 more than normal)
DRAE's LE: $65 ($25 more than normal)

We're now $40 more than normal, which is double the price for the Vita version. Though personally, this might be the best set of items (assuming the headphones are built/sound nice & the soundtrack is to my liking) second to the DR2 LE.

& yes, I would assume we're not getting the 2.5 anime because NISA doesn't have the licensing for it, that's Funimation..........which is weird when you consider NISA actually licenses anime as well & they could've had more consistency with the VAs....

So what're people choosing for console? Part of me wants Vita since that's how I've played the series & VN-style games like this, Zero Escape, & Ace Attorney feel better portable & I can use headphones for the music, but seeing this on my 43" HDTV is kind of tempting as well.....

I'd say this is the best LE we've had in the west. 2 disc soundtrack and hardcover artbook alone mean that it's of a better quality. On paper anyway.

I was considering getting the LE for vita and a standard copy for PS4, and then just playing on PS4. If I only go for one, then I'd stick with the PS4, just because it could be nice to play this on a TV. Although I have mostly played VNs on handhelds, so I might change my mind at the last minute.

I think my decision is going to come down to if they're going to continue using similar controls for the trials, because I found dealing with the white noise using the back touchpad much easier than highlighting & shooting it via analog stick.

I started jumping when I heard Monokuma's laugh during the PSX conference, did not expect that!
I'll probably go for the Vita version, assuming it doesn't have any technical problems or significant downgrades compared to the PS4 version.

I think I'll go with the Vita version simply because I own the other two for Vita. Plus, (I hope) it should be slightly cheaper.

Holy crap, the Vita LE is already down to 6%-10% left over. Easily the quickest one of these Danganronpa LEs have ever been sold.

It's now at 0-5%.I am kinda wondering if they'll restock this like they did with Nights of Azure and DR2.

I made an order, but I don't have a confirmation email. I also have 3 temp charges, so hopefully this goes through for me.

I have a similar problem. No email confirmation (though it said it went through & it's in "My Orders" on my profile") & have two temp charges.

Maybe they'll just take some of the LE bundles that were meant for the PS4 version & just swap it for the Vita seeing as how that bundle still has a ton available.

Out of curiosity I went back to check on Reload and UDG's PS4 LE's. UDG is still at 75-100%, and Reload is at 26-50%. Relaod's selling pretty well, although that's not too surprising because that has some new artwork stuff in it (even if it's mostly packaging) and those are two critically acclaimed mainline games.

Yeah, it's in the "my orders" page, so I'm not freaked out yet. Although admittedly I am tempted to make a second order through paypal to see if that works and just cancel one later.

That's possible, but I'm not sure they'd need to just yet. I doubt production of the items are in full swing yet, so there's time to add more like they've done in the past and take away some later if PS4 is just not selling. There's a chance that PS4 will pick up once vita is gone, and they might not want to cut into potential sales there.

I'm a bit surprised they converted the PS4 LEs, wasn't sure if they would want to cut into sales there. Guess they couldn't make more, but Vita's selling better so it makes sense to move some around.

Not kidding, kind of hyped by the new DRv3 introduction trailer, especially the Kaede "sore wa chigau yo!" part and that team debate section. Looking forward to how it plays out

This trailer was quite extensive, probably the final trailer besides the next character one and possibly a launch one. I'll take until a translation appears for me to understand what is relayed here, but I can see that the scenes look much more cinematic than anything before in the series; the increased budget really shows. And the additions to the class trials seem to change the current dynamics of a main trio - I hope this means the entire character ensemble becomes more active in the mystery solving department.

The highlight was of course Monokuma. The new voice actress seems better here than in what little we heard in DR3. But the Monokuma licking scenes surely were something else.

Kaede looks super duper serious. Also the fact that she lies, bluffs, etc in order to win sounds incredibly intriguing. Ace Attorney to the max.

It's super interesting to contrast two protagonists who weed out the truth with a protagonist who lies to win. This is likely the reason that the demo has Makoto and Hajime in it, to emphasize that contrast.

So, according to the next Famitsu in what seems to be the equivalent of School/Island mode for V3 there's going to be some sort of alternate universe with appearances of characters hailing from the Hope's Peak saga. From the preview, Komaeda and Chihiro seem to be confirmed to be there.

I don't know what to think about this. I just hope this remains fanservice in a separate mode and it doesn't bleed into the main storyline.

It's like the what if scenario from the first game, so it won't even touch the main storyline.

I look forward to seeing the DR1 characters interacting with the DR2 ones.....and hoping they make a joke about Makoto sounding like Komaeda.

Oh right, Japan gets that demo next week. Wonder if we'll get it as well, especially since there's some bonuses that'll carry over to the main game like the medals & a few skills.

Though he was a tennis player with a promising future, he killed mafia members by hitting them in the head with his custom-made steel tennis ball. The organization was annihilated, and he became a prisoner on death row.

Though he looks like a child, his life experience would put an adult to shame

Thanks to his grand past, Hoshi has a coolness you wouldn’t think a high schooler could possess. Even being shut up in Saishuu Academy and forced into a killing game, he seems unperturbed.

I know who's FTE I'm going to max first.
