In terms of prominence, Demitri is the Ryu of Darkstalkers (male protagonist), and Morrigan is the Chun-Li (most popular female). The only reason Demitri hasn't shown up in the Versus series is because Midnight Bliss isn't feasible, and Capcom doesn't think he's worth including without it.

The models and graphics will for sure improve dramatically as development goes on im not even worried at all about that. SFV didnt look nearly as good when it was revealed compared to now. Hell look at KOF XIV from reveal to now they actually skipped a whole generation of graphics.

Anyway, Morrigan is to Darkstalkers as Akuma is to Street Fighter in crossover games. She's the main crossover character they use. Hopefully we'll get Jedah as well. A Jedah would do a lot for me in a game without assists.

Why does relevancy matter if their old games are great and well remembered? Same goes for Ghosts n Goblins and Mega Man X. Whether Capcom continues to support their respective series or not, their games are still influential and great. Did Game & Watch, Duck Hunt, and ROB bother you in Smash?

VGD’s resident virtual fisticuffs expert Rupert Higham went hands-on with the latter at a preview event recently, and couldn’t help but notice that while a couple of Darkstalkers mainstays – Morrigan and Felicia – had made it into the roster, the mighty Demitri, he of the sex- and age-changing super moves, had not.

When Rupert bewailed this omission to Niitsuma in a subsequent interview, the Capcom veteran pointed out that creating a schoolgirl version of every character model in the game ‘probably isn’t time well spent’, and that in any case, the notion of an Incredible Hulkette or Wolverina wouldn’t sit well with Marvel’s lawyers.

There’s a programming knot to unravel here too, though.

‘Darkstalkers characters are all complete memory hunger-mad characters because they constantly transform into things,’ Niitsuma went on. ‘They can’t just walk – they have to change into something when they move and it just uses a lot of data. Even just having these two (Morrigan and Felicia) is a big deal. To put Demitri in we’d have to have time to make a whole other game.

‘Doing that in 3D is a big issue,’ he reflected later. ‘Maybe it was one of those things that we could only do because it was 2D. But fighting games have started to catch on again so perhaps at this rate… you never know.’

Yeah. If we get any new Darkstalkers they'll be on the tamer side (in terms of gore/sex) like B.B Hood, Anakaris, Sasquatch, Jon Talbain, etc.

Darkstalkers is super niche. Only the most hardcore fighting game and Japanese game fans remember that franchise.

Kinda how I feel, honestly. Darkstalkers has cool characters but I'd rather see other franchises prioritized at this point.

I think Felicia will come back and Hsien-Ko might return considering they're seemingly taking the Smash 4 route of just porting a bunch of assets over from the last game, but outside of those two I think Darkstalkers is done in terms of characters.

Darkstalkers has been dead forever now, if changing Jedah's moveset to get him in the game is required then by all means go for it. It's not like Capcom is doing anything else with him anyway.

Neo_G quitting Capcom earlier this year to work at SNK is pretty telling too... he had to have known about this game.

disproportionate representation in crossover games relative to the franchise size is a darkstalkers signature. unless we're getting a tvc-size or smaller roster, i think another character is a pretty safe bet, and i'd have my money on someone who wasn't in 3. particularly bb hood or talbain.
