50 million PS4s sold-through as of 6th December 2016

According to a "source" that shall not be named, the 15 best selling games on PS4 are:

1 Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
2 Grand Theft Auto V
3 FIFA 16
4 Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
5 Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
6 Fallout 4
7 FIFA 17
8 FIFA 15
9 Destiny
10 Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
11 Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
12 The Last of Us
13 Minecraft
14 Far Cry 4
15 Watch Dogs

And they in total are sold in around 100 million copies. Treat all of this info as unrealiable, but it shows the general trend of the PS4 audience tastes.

Your source is unreliable. We all know what the number one best selling game on the PS4 really is.

Sony obviously made a deal with the devil to achieve this level of success. How else would explain the resurrection of games like TLG, Shenmue 3, Crash, WIndjammers etc.

Yup.

More telling is this headline for software today.

PS4 software sales have surpassed 369.6 million copies sold in retail and digital

What a weird number to announce, unless you flip the 9. Beast mode in full effect.

I'm probably joking

Lmao the hate for Sony used to be strong on GAF. This thread should be posted everytime someone utters the words SonyGAF. The general consensus on GAF is usually in line with how popular a particular console is or isn't at the time.

How times change huh?

In the handful of posts in that thread which weren't "Sony is doomed" you still had the dude talking about SonyGAF and how anti-Microsoft GAF is.

Some people really do see exactly what they want to see.

It's fully deserved, PS4 has the best and most diverse software lineup, far better than the competition and we want the console with the best line up to win more than any other reason, it's for our best interests.

It's baffling how Sony didn't announce an immediate free Knack download offer starting from today.

Ungrateful bastard.

This is not even remotely close to true, LOL. The PS4 is doing great but it's never going to even touch half of PS2's exclusive games.
PS4 is getting there. The landscape is different, there is no more GTA or RE exclusives games. But man, PS4 is getting relevant exclusives left and right and made the first splash in VR. If you are only gaming on console, any time a new VR game is released its basically only home to PS4, which is kinda crazy. A VR hit in the upcoming months will be tied to PS in the console space.

People bought PS2 very causally, and I'm not sure even a $150 PS4 would catch up to PS2, because people have mobile, tablets, and generally don't need a console as a cheap option to play movies anymore. I'd say Sony has put the system in the best scenario to get close to it's predecessor. I don't think it'll hit 150 million and of course won't have the number of exclusives PS2 had. But it could surpass it or equate it in overall software library and I think PS4 will hit over 100 million.

And people think we are getting ps5 in 2 years. Haah
This is going to be another 10 year gen.

Only if Switch and Scorpio fail. Sony won't watch those two eating their pie. PS is one of their main businesses. So if, MS manages to sell a new machine for 400-600$ next year, Sony will throw the next big thing on the market 2018/2019, because in that case consumers are telling them:we want that!

That's the reason why console manufacturers sometimes make weird choices in their hardware. They are ruthlessly choosing to include only what is absolutely needed. For example, not including third USB port on base PS4 has probably saved Sony from paying ~million dollars in manufacture. Little costs quickly add up into large sums when the products are sold in these quantities.

Yup, every cent counts basically. Which is why even just making something like 10€ on the hardware from day 1 (though these days I'm guessing it's quite a bit more) means a lot in the long run. Especially so if you add whatever they make off the software side of things.

Likewise, losing even 10€ per unit sold can make quite the dent.

That predictions thread is ridiculous. No way were Sony going to fuck up as bad as they did with the PS3 and even then they just about tied MS. On top of that, they had all the goodwill from gamers after years of quality games meanwhile Mattrick was dismantling the Xbox brand from within.

I knew they would beat MS this gen and I'm not just saying that in hindsight. Never expected them to be this dominant though.

Wow so there really wont be a COD bundle this holiday. Did not expect that.
There could be one.
Last year, the regular bundle was announced mid December.
What people generally remember is the LE Blops3 bundle, which was higher priced with a 1Tb drive.

Have to admit I thought it was a mistake to go in BF in NA with only 1 bundle with a 6 month old game, but it allowed them to both optimize costs and have huge amounts of stock on 1 SKU...

Well done.

I agree, but they should really follow suit with the b/c and catch up to the competition here. To be honest, I'm ok with what Sony is doing re-releasing PS2 games as PS2 classic, I don't mind purchasing the few games I like to replay over like Dark Cloud 2 or Maixmo for $7 and such. Just put them on the store already and add PS1/PSP/Vita games to it as well.

It just seems like between PS1-PSP-PS2 Sony is sitting on way too many games that are not compatible with PS4. PS now is surprisingly a good alternate way to play some of the best PS3 games. but yeah, love PS4, I didn't even need a second console this gen...just saying Sony has some chinks and can definitely improve some issues.

B/C support is too slow and only involves PS2 atm
Live still seems to edge out PSN in stability, PSN could improve
PS+ slow to get PS4 games, but we are 3 years in, likely harder to make deals with pubs
Sony get outclassed in a few genres like MP-focused titles/Racing
WWS is slower this generation of getting out great games

When has there ever been 10 years between new consoles?

NES to SNES was 7 years
PS1 to PS2 was 6 years
PS2 to PS3 was 6 years
PS3 to PS4 was 7 years

Apologies i meant another long get so 7 to 8 years like last gen.

Im saying this because in the beginning of this gen people said this is going to be a short (5 years) gen.

That was before Pro, but I think six years could be enough for PS5. It all depends on if you can get a generational leap in tech inside a $400 box by 2019, or if it'll take until 2020.

Um no? Look what happened with x360 and PS2.

The market is a lot different now though. And internationally Xbox is just not a strong brand.

But if Microsoft moves you can be sure Sony can't wait...

Uhhhhh... it was just last gen that disproves what you're saying.

PS2 was far in the lead, but MS dropped the 360 a year before PS3 and started the new gen. So, no.

Context is important.

Early last gen was when many western developers came into prominence. It was also the start of Japanese developers shifting most of their resources toward handhelds.

Both of those scenarios acted heavily in favour of Microsoft (and against Sony), and to be frank, sudden shifts like those (in favour of MS) are not likely to occur again.

It is a great console, but most importantly for me is that it doesn't seem to break. Every other Sony console I have owned has been replaced by this point, for PS3 multiple times. This seems like it will live forever, which I am really grateful for. PS2 was shite as well, disc read errors every year. If other people have the same then this 50 million is probably actually that, not 30 million with people buying replacements.

awesome! unfortunately for me there are no more exclusives that interested me so I got an XB1 then The Last of Us 2 was announced and now I kinda regret selling it. Should've not been a tight ass and just bought the XB1 and kept my PS4. here's hoping I can get a cheap PS4 in 2018 or TLOU2 comes to PS5. been on Playstation since 1995 and I'll be back for the PS5.

You really thought Tlou 2 wasn't gonna be made?

And now this.

The Uncharted 4 PS4 Bundle is $249.99 on December 11 through December 24: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016...undle-249-99-december-11-through-december-24/

sony has been spot on with their bundles and promos, i thought they were going to do it closer to christmas but i see they did it early. btw, amazon has 15% cashback with sony products promo right now with the Chase bank CC, so if you wait a bit for this promo to kick in (currently 269$ at amazon) you could save a lot.

It's clear that this has everything to do with Crash Bandicoot Returns Fur-K HD.

Well done, Sony. Hooray for dedicated gaming systems!

you are so wrong, it was the Yakuza-a-palooza at PSX
