Yooka-Laylee launches April 11th, considering Switch version instead of Wii U

Instant access only on Steam as far as I'm aware. The press release stated that they are working on a solution for console.

That reads like they mean people who originally back the game on console on Kickstarter. Even on their Twitter is says instant access. Oh well.

It's unfair and misleading. A demo early in the new year would be nice but I'm beginning to think the only built up and interesting part of the game is the first world.

As someone pointed out on the previous page, having this on a cart just feels right :)

Mmm, this is a tad disappointing. I got my physical version specifically as the WiiU version. I may have to request that I receive the PC version as physical because the Switch versions' physical copy is still up in the air, and change my digital version to switch.

Wait, the Switch comes out a month before YL. Just realized that. Not enough time to do the port (unless they are already working on it and can't say).

The only Kickstarter I ever back and my version gets cancelled, fuck.

Also not planning of getting a Switch either. This sucks.

Can you swap over to the PC version? Doesn't need a powerful PC to run.

My Xbox One is ready! I've already paid for the digital version through the kickstarter, but I'm very tempted to buy the physical version as well. Very, very hyped for this one!

I honestly think it's kind of shitty to them to cancel to the Wii U version when Nintendo fans were the prime source of funding for this game. At least its coming to Switch. Guess I'll have to wait even longer to play :/

Don't have a problem with it. I'm sure the vast majority of Wii U owners are going to be buying a Switch anyways and this game will be great portable.

Of course they're already working on it. And they absolutely do say.

Playtonic was listed as one of the developers supporting Switch back when it was announced a few months ago.

I'm going to get it because I love platformers but man I just don't like the character design of Yooka and Laylee. Looks generic as hell.

I really feel like they're not getting enough flack for cancelling the Wii U version. It was the primary version that was being developed. Yeah, it's great they're going to make a Switch version and I totally understand why, but...I'm not planning on buying a Switch right away. I'll probably get the upgrade to the switch version but that means I'm gonna have to wait to play the game I backed for a console that I actually have right now that they suddenly decided to drop support for before release.

I mean whatever. At least its not Mighty Number 9.

I suspect most people will just get it on XBO/PS4/PC as this'll probably be a late release on Switch now. Nintendo should get a team to help out to get it out as close to the others as possible.

Ita gonna be a good year for platformers:

Yooka
Crash Bandicoot Returns
Mario 3D

Woop Woop.

I guess it's not all that surprising, but I'm still a little disappointed. Switch version will probably launch later than the other two, and now I don't really have a preference on which platform to go for. The decision is much easier when one is a Nintendo system...

Ugh. Can't decide if I should go PS4 or Switch now.

The PS4 Pro version is sure to look fantastic, but I irrationally would rather have this on a Nintendo console. Any PC benefits wouldn't be worth it to me over the Pro.

Kickstarter developers seem to have a hard time with the Wii U. Armikrog was supposed to have a Wii U version with special features that never materialized. They ended up putting out a crappy port a year later. To add insult to injury people who backed the Kickstarter got it a few weeks after the debut due to an issue with keys. The Kickstarter also cost way more than they charged for the retail release. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I'm gonna stay away from getting excited for Nintendo versions of popular Kickstarter games.

Nintendo REALLY wants to kill off the Wii U it seems. It feels like they're pushing everything to Switch and encouraging 3rd parties to do the same.

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if they just shut down Wii U cert after Breath of the Wild goes out.

Hell, I wouldn't find it a surprise if the U submission process is being spun down as we speak.

The 'stay tuned early next year' tells me it will probably be at either Nintendo's main event or be showcased at one of the press events in Europe/America.

It'll be there day and date methinks.

I have to admit, I was hoping that a Switch version would be announced soon, and that I'd have the option to, er, switch my pledge to that platform instead of Wii U...but I feel sorry for those who really wanted it on Wii U. Like others have mentioned, Unity games run very poorly on the system, so I do believe that the technical issues were too large an obstacle to continue on Wii U (in addition to being good business sense.)

It's a shame it probably won't release in April with the other versions, but having it on-the-go should be good fun.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Is the pre-order bonus just the regular toybox demo or the expanded "plus" version?

Really hoping there will be a Jan 12 Switch announcement during the presentation. Would rather play this thing on a Nintendo console for reasons stated by other posters.

Is Yooka-Laylee an Unreal Engine 4 game? It would probably make sense why development on Switch would be easier if that was the case (aside from the obvious financial reasons).

I will be honest, I'd prefer this on the Switch if it helps fill out the console's early launch period. Every additional game it can get in that timeframe helps it stand among the existing competition.
