Not sure if this appropriate to post but Terry's Wonderland 3D english patch for 3DS has been released.

Can remove the link if needed.

Amazing. Was following this project for a while but just finding out it was released now. The release is pretty poorly timed seeing as two Dragon Quest games were released in the last month but once I'm done with DQVII and DQB I'll definitely have to figure out how the hell I can play this I'll be all over it.

It is time.

That looks like DW1 (if memory serves).

That's the one. Have played 4-7 (just finished 7 on 3DS), so now going back to play 1-3 before the 3DS release of 8.

Liking 1 so far, nice and simple RPG. Very grind heavy though which sucks, but it's short which is cool. Level 14 now and I read that you can take on the final boss around 20-22.

Wasn't there a 3DS entry that wasn't very well received? I might be thinking about Joker 3. If Terry's Wonderland is good then I'll start with it.

It's definitely Joker 3. I finished it last month and although I enjoyed it, the monster selection was very underwhelming. Color palette swaps ruined synthesis for me. Terry's Wonderland is next on my list, but I'm playing DQVII right now and after that it's Pokémon Moon so it'll take a while until I get to it.

I didn't see it mentioned here at all but last month SE announced Joker 3 Professional. Because... of course they did.

Sounds like they're going to fix the monster-count-issue of the original version.

Just in time for S-E to announce the localization of the original Joker 3.

And my collection is complete. Sorry for potato quality image, had to turn the overhead light off as I couldn't get a shot without half the covers being nothing but glare.

Now to play them :p

Think I'll play the 3DS version of 8 rather than PS2 though, the improvements seem worth the graphical hit.

Edit: OMG I forgot Dragon Quest Swords on Wii, I'll have to take another picture tomorrow...

I've got a copy of VIII sitting in my desk that I can't play because my PS2 died. I wish it'd show up on the PS4 at some point.

It took over a little 2 hours to finally get to some fighting action in dq VII. Definitely the most boring 2 hour start in any video game I've ever played.

Good thing is the game is at least getting interesting now that is some action and things to fight. Glad I pushed through the beginning

Is there no official artwork for Marcello from DQ8? I got the DQ 30th anniversary artbook and the DQ8 art are magnificent but I didn't see Marcello among the full body artwork characters.

Mm, this is the best I could find, looks like a bad scan or picture.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Do you guys think we'll ever get Dragon Quest Heroes II in English?

It was published by Square Enix in the West, though. Combined with the fact that the first apparently didn't do so well, I am a bit worried about it. I really liked the first one, so I'd love to play its sequel.
At least for now there's still plenty of time for the game. If it isn't announced by mid next year, it probably won't come.

Joker 2 came out in the US just as Joker 2 Pro (an expansion pack) was released in Japan destroying the online component and fixing most of the problems with Joker 2. Was kinda stillborn because of it. In addition, they had all of no advertising. (Basically, Square Enix has no idea how to market smaller, niche titles. If it's not AAA and self-advertising, they're hopeless.)

Going straight from DQ VII to DQ IV hasn't been great. IV party members don't really have any personality. :/

Most Dragon Quest games are not character-focused. DQ4 was the first Dragon Quest game with clearly defined characters at all. The chapters are meant to introduce them to you, but the way they do that is by introducing you to their world and their circumstances, rather than the people themselves. Even though DQ4 is about "the chosen ones," it's really about the world and people that shaped them rather than the individuals themselves.

Also, keep in mind that Dragon Quest 4 came out in 1990.

I'm playing the DS version because fuck playing an RPG on my phone.
:/

Yeah, I know, but it makes such a big difference. It's supposed to be in it and was just cut. I'd rather put up with shitty controls than lose all the character talk.

Battery life in my phone isn't great without using it to play an RPG.

Howdy friends, wondering if anyone can help me out with some info. I just downloaded DQM: Terry's Wonderland 3D, been wanting to play it for a while, but wasn't sure how much the language barrier would be an issue. I figured, I put so much time into the original on GB, I should be able to manage. Turns out they changed a lot. Been playing for a few hours, having a good time, but wondered if there's any resources for spell/ability names, etc. This is a good resource for monster locations/breeding:

http://dqm3d.ffsky.cn/monsters.htm

But the site's skill pages are harder for me to make use of. I would be really happy if I could find something that gives a list of skills with their japanese and english equivalents. From what I can tell, the skill system is very similar to that of DQM Joker and especially Joker 2 (neither of which I've played), so resources for those games might be helpful. Would be stoked if anyone can provide any help!

edit: if someone has experience with this game and joker 2, how similar are the skillsets? Are they literally copy-pasted from that game? If so, this site would be helpful

Honestly, if you have a hacked 3DS (and doing so is very easy), there is a full fan translation for DQM 3DS.

Yeah, I saw that, but I have the latest firmware on both my US 3ds and my JP new 3ds, so apparently CFW is out of the question.

Do you guys think IX is worth playing now that the online stuff is inaccessible? Was planning on just playing V and VI now that I've beaten IV and stopping there.

Might play IX after everything else then.
Hopefully my copy of V shows up soon, I wanna recruit some monsters already!

lol, its nice we're getting DQH2 to the West, but its like they're not even trying to advertise the series.

They seem to think everyone's on social media when its much more than that.

DQH sold dog shit so I'm very happy to see we're still getting the sequel which looks amazing and I loved DQH tower defense and all.

I hope the wait for DQ11 in the west won't be too horrible. I've already resigned to not being able to play the 3DS version unless Nintendo somehow steps in which I kind of doubt since the PS4 version exists unless Nintendo does step in for the 3DS version but we don't get the PS4 version instead. Which would be kind of hilarious.

Apparently Nintendo has been showing a video preview of the localised DQVIII.

Here's a couple of those videos:
Here.
If you like talking on top of the video.

There's also a dutch version that's 44 minutes long.

Man, it hurts to hear MIDI instead of the glorious Orchestral soundtrack of the Japanese version, but they're using better, richer sound fonts than the previous synthesized MIDI. Also it...doesn't seem like there's menu lag? I hope. It bothered me a lot in English VIIr.

Oh man. DQV spoilers.
Did not see getting enslaved for ten years coming. Shit got dark.

Managed to get my PS2 to start reading discs again, so now I'm torn between playing VIII after VI on PS2, or playing it on 3DS.

Beat V and then wait for VIII 3DS. It's not going to take too long anyway and the 3DS version should be worth it for the improved battle speed and visible encounters alone. The extra content is icing on the cake.

Also, (VIII ENDING SPOILERS)
I heard you can marry Jessica on the 3DS port.
Is that true? If so, how does that work, do they give you a choice or something at the end?

The 3DS version doesn't look as good, and that soundtrack though..
