I booted this up last night and I must say I was really impressed with all the changes already. A lot of them are things that playtesting should have ironed out, but better late than never. Tried survival mode and it booted me onto a great planet with awesome wildlife, but I died after about 30 minutes without making too much progress. There was no plutonium anywhere.

My dirty secret is that despite all its flaws I've always kinda enjoyed this game so survival mode may well get me back into it.

So, sorry for being lazy, but is there anywhere I can go to check all of the changes from the foundation update and since then? What are the major ones?

This game would generally look much more impressive if its FOV were higher. I know it's not as simple as changing some sliders, but I'd hope that they can patch in a bigger FOV at some point.

I fully expect it to happen eventually. I was upset when they took away Vortex Cube stacking before this update. It was already a tedious grind to earn credits and they decided to make it even more of a grind. Granted they've enabled the ability again in a shorter amount in your ship inventory, but it's still not as good as it was.

I've currently got 92 Mordite plants and a market terminal in my base, so every time I make it through my entire supply and sell off each lube, my farm is ready again. Average a little over 2 million at a time with about 10 minutes worth of work.

Fortunately, I finally made enough money to buy a 48 slot ship for 56 million after dismantling all the tech in my ship before hand. So if they do finally nerf lube farming, I won't mind so much.
 
That's a good question actually. I thought I had used the signal booster to scan for transmission towers, but I'm probably mis-remembering that. Maybe you can't, in which case I don't know what the best method to find transmission towers would be (I've still stumbled across a couple entirely by accident since the Foundation update).

A shame they patched out the Gek transmission tower glitch, which was the only convenient way to max a ship before.

I think Hello made transmission towers less searchable on purpose. I don't think they ever wanted people to be maxing out their ships so easily.

p.s. I only realized last night that if you're flying near a crashed ship, landing markers will focus on it (the same icon you see on landing pads). This must've been added in Foundation, as I'd never seen that before with crashed ships.

It's the easiest thing in the world to refit your farm to do any cash crop. Lubricant prices change? You've still got all your hydroponic stations, just replant with Albumen Pearls or Gravitino Balls or Sac Venom or whatever has a decent grow rate and sells high. Sure, you have the initial cost of getting materials, but once you've got one planted, you can grow stock to fill a farm. And I'm thinking of getting rid of Mordite to grow these anyway because crafting Lubricant is an annoying process; with other crops it's literally just pick and sell. You can put on Netflix in the background, wait 20 minutes, boom, make a few million, back to Netflix waiting on the next harvest. No more tedious "do this series of three clicks to navigate the menus to produce Lubricant enough times to fill your suit, sell it all, repeat non-stop for six minutes, then go pick all your plants again." It's surprisingly stressful and annoying.

I mean thick, dense forests..or can't the engine handle it.
Not really. For that feel of size and density they really need to let foliage be larger. Variance in tree size based on density of trees would go a long way.

I really don't like how the game now tries to get you to build a base. Locking Titanium and Chrysonite behind that now is annoying. Especially since both of those are needed items for many upgrades(even basic Sigma ones at times).

Not every player wants to build bases, but apparently Hello Games wants you to build a base now whether you want to or not.

Well, you can get the laser and gauntlets recipes and then forget about the base if you want. Titanium is often also for sale from traders if you really don't want to ever step foot in a base. Personally I like having the added narrative and the additional crafting gates.

What's annoying about the additional elements in Foundation is that I'm constantly having to fly to different planets to get what I need. QoL improvements like having an element list for planets you've visited would help. Or being able to hire NPC traders...

I'd be happy with some kind of notebook or even just a list of what you next need to buy from the NPCs. Kind of like a shopping list, so if you want to build a little storefront robot thingy and you need 3 circuit boards and 3 bits of copper wire, it tells you exactly what you need to build that thing.

I went on a bit of a wild goose chase looking for a particular element (I think it was the one that builds into glass) but had the name slightly wrong. There's too many elements starting with C that sound alike :/

For the sake of lowering ship prices, at what point should I dismantle my ship's tech? Right before speaking to aliens, before they/I land next to each other, or a different point entirely?

I remember testing this a long time ago and not figuring out the timing.
 
So I load up the game for the first time in forever to check out the new content. The first thing I see? A creature named after a joke between me and my ex-fiance. XD

At least we're on better terms now. If I'd seen that a while back, it would have been an "Ugh" moment instead of a "Haha, that's funny" one.

Man... Mordite farming is soul crushing. I'm on a planet with High Fauna and mowing down these poor creatures is not fun.

Only attack the ones that get you, and then start growing it as soon as you can. I had way too much way too fast once I started growing my own dead meat. Same with the poop. Farm until you have enough to grow your own.

Is it better to keep your storage containers on your freighter or on your planet?

Also, if they have stuff inside them and you delete them, do you lose the stuff? Or does it come back when you rebuild the container?

Just tried this for the first time today. I was gathering materials to repair my ship, and it froze on me. I was so excited, and it just killed my immersion. I'll try it again tomorrow, but not looking forward to this game hard locking my Pro all of the time. Hoping it was a random occurance.

This game is so beautiful at times. The textures, models, animations, etc by themselves are not always spectacular but as a whole they come together to create some truly wonderous and breathtaking locations. I absolutely love landing on dead moons. There may not be much there from a gameplay perspective but being able to see the stars above you wandering around at twilight with that eerie silence, it sends shivers down my spine. They really nailed the atmosphere.

I agree about the low FOV. It feels quite restrictive as is and I believe it detracts from the beauty of the game. I really hope they add a slider.

Before dismantling, ships in the high 40s were approximately 136 million units. So roughly 80 million units after dismantling.

Do you get 10 each?

You get 10 total storage containers. The freighter also has it's own storage space like your ship does.

In order to transfer an already built container from your base to your freighter and vice versa, you have to delete the container and rebuild it at the other location. The contains still remain and will be there when you rebuild the container.

If you decide to claim a new base, you'll just have to rebuild the containers you had at your previous base. The contents will still be there as well.
 
So I landed last night on a hellscape which my scanner listed being rich in Iridium (assuming the element list is in order of frequency, it was 2nd on the list) in order to rebuild my Sigma warp drive. Yet I can't find any. What does it look like now?

That planet is crazy btw. Smouldering atmosphere, hostile Sentinels, and plenty of carnivores. It's the first time I've seen meat-eating dinosaurs...I had a couple of raptors attack me in a cave while I was distracted mining Emeril. They packed a punch. Also saw the largest carnivore I've seen -- 2.6m. I didn't stick around when it got interested in me.

p.s. yes I know Iridium can supposedly be found in the pointy asteroids, but those are rare in my experience.
p.p.s. it's silly that different star types require different warp drives to travel to. I have a Theta drive, yet I can't reach green or red stars without the other upgrades. At least give us some flimsy in-game reason for this.

Definitely worth it.

If claim another base does the previous one autistically get dismantled down to its ingredients? If not, it might more worthwhile to take it down manually if it's of a manageable size.

I've moved bases probably 5+ times. I keep finding planets I like better than the one I'm currently on.

I've not once had to remake the containers, just place them again after moving. Everything that I had stored in them was there when I placed them again.

Iridium is the big, red lumps sticking out of the land, I think. Picture what gold used to look like pre-FU, but red.

Plan 31-M will be put in place. I'm going to move my Mordite farm to my freighter and fill my containers full of useful materials then wander the galaxy for a bit until I find a new home planet.

Iridium is in red cubes. Normally with rocky ground-coloured stone at its base. Hard to miss really! Your planet may just not have much of it.

Maybe the reason is that more primitive warp drives can't cope with the radiation those particular stars give out? Could be loads of reasons - come up with one yourself if there isn't one. ;)

Hmm, well I guess that means that the ship scanner doesn't list the elements in order of percentage, unless the proc gen changed such that there are clumps of materials only on one part of the planet.

And somme, that was a solid explanaiton; maybe you should apply for that writing job. ;P

Fortunately gold can still be found in pillars on many planets that list gold. Emeril and aluminum no longer have pillars though, and are found in the ground.

Copper can be the biggest pain now since its no longer the floating balls.

I hope they fix the blueprints soon. I keep getting duplicates, and I'm only in my 7th system in Survival mode. Have received the Cold Sigma Protection 5 times now. Only other hazard protection I have is Radiation Tau. Still no warp upgrades either. My slow progress is rather excruciating at times. Overall though, it does feel more balanced than normal mode, where you can often become almost invincible quickly.

Desert planets have become the "pleasant" planets in Survival mode. Many of them only briefly impact your hazard protection at night when it gets cold for a bit, if they don't have storms. Even hot planets can be tolerable at night. Cold planets often tend to have a ton of plutonium on Survival, so I don't mind those either.

The paradise planets all have the annoying hostile sentinels, so I tend to avoid spending a ton of time on those. Which is a shame because they are often damn beautiful.

Surprisingly I haven't seen a mainly liquid planet yet in my Survival game.

Thanks, somme. The red cubes hint helped. I finally found a ton of it, except somehow I had been on the wrong planet. 😬

They probably should change the description though; Hello still describes it as a white metal.
 
I finally made it to my first red star system, in search of Rubeum. I flew down to the main planet and found something intriguing -- the weather is listed as Fine, but the planet is barren of flora and fauna. The atmosphere isn't low though. It's just devoid of life. And there's endless amounts of Rubeum pillars. I didn't realize there were barren planets that weren't low atmosphere.

On another note, is there any actual way to deal with Sentinels in space? It seems like unless you can make it to a space station, you'll just keep getting a higher wanted level until you're dead.
 
Has anyone figured out how the base complexity levels and limits work on PS4?

I rebuilt my base (for the fourth time) last night and ran into "you've reached your limit" message for the first time. It's a bummer because my base really isn't that big, it's a 2 x 14 x 5 cube room building. But the base complexity doesn't seem to be based on a count of objects; deleting one window let me plant 4 hydroponics trays. But I don't know if I want to bother with trying to make a perfect base anymore if I can't tell when it's going to reach the limit. I still need a landing pad though.

Also it appears that the freighter base limit is separate from the planet base limit. I maxed my planetary base while building cube rooms and decided to go to my freighter to get some materials. I decided to try and build on the freighter and it let me build a bunch of cube rooms.

No, your home base doesn't really look like any of the buildings you encounter in the game, apart of a few cosmetic furniture items here and there.

Your home base serves as a permanent hub with a teleporter which transports you to the few last space stations you teleported from (one of the doors on space stations now lead to a teleporter room). Additionally, you hire specialist NPCs who give you quests to unlock new blueprints (some strictly for base building, but also for crucial tech since certain elements are now locked behind a new mining laser and gauntlet tech), grow a farm for stocking up on some rarer elements, build a landing pad (for your ship or to attract other traders, a galactic trading terminal and up to 10 storage containers holding a decent amount of items so you can clean up your inventory a bit. You can also buy a freighter that's basically a mobile home base you can summon at any time. There's some other stuff like crafting permanent waypoint beacons in case you want to come back to some interesting locations, but that's most of it I guess. Some folks have datamined the game and discovered assets for a possible upcoming land vehicle/buggy.
