About LKD and the Zelda release date...

We had this one leaker/journalist that did get everything right and had like 99% trust from people. She went on and on about posting rumors only "when" and "if" she was 100% sure about the news being true and being confirmed by multiple sources, she even got (unprofessionally) cocky with Nintendo, taunting them because they (understandably) didn't invite her to the Switch press event.

Then she's just: "sorry, I was wrong, it's not coming several months down the line, on the very specific June 16 date I set, it's actually coming in March, the month almost everyone thought it would release in before I made this huge mess".

One error is totally understandable and forgivable, especially because things may have changed on Nintendo's side, but one gets to wonder on how much else she may be wrong and about the unprofessional attitude she has had during this whole situation. She also got a lot of publicity for herself and her site (which is basically comprised of only leaks, besides that godawful The Last Guardian 5.5/10 review and a troll-post about Tracer being gay), not counting that she actively asked for donations over twitter.

Maybe now she will be wrong about Mario too, seeing as Zelda is apparently releasing on launch. I doubt we have a launch with both Mario and Zelda, even though it'd be a sight to behold, and part of what Nintendo needs to kickstart the Switch.

In conclusion, I know fully comprehend the new policy mods here have over leaks and tweets. What do you guys think about it? Is all the stuff she said about the other games coming to fruition, or are you doubting now?

What's stopping stores from just having a list of people who want one? Do they have an agreement with Nintendo? If so why?

It's something that applies to all platforms now. You couldn't pre-order a PS4 in the US at major stores until Sony announced the date and price. As far as why they don't take names. The only purpose that would solve is to have employees call every person on that list to inform them that it's ready to be pre-ordered, and I don't think anyone wants to have to do that. So, they just wait until the date/price is announced and those that want it will likely be aware of when that is and place their pre-orders then.

What are the chances that the Switch will have media capabilities? I mean not Plex level of things, just Netflix, Spotify, CrunchyRoll, the likes.

I have a feeling most 3rd party devs are just waiting to see how it goes with Switch sales, demand and all that.

Nintendo loyalists should be there from day 1, but there are no leaks about them either. Would Namco really miss a system launch? No Ridge Racer? No Tales remake? Level-5 would definitely capitalize this opportunity with some Yokai Watch title. And it's time for Marvelous to introduce their next Harvest Moon game.

If Switch couldn't even get those guys, then future for it really doesn't look good.

Most retailers like to have allocation numbers before doing preorders to prevent overselling. not a lot of them have systems in place to just form a list. I'd wager that just causes more problems than it solves (irate customers constantly calling and being told they have to wait in a line of dozens of other people who are already in the line).

US retailers usually work closely with publishers to figure this stuff out. Nintendo usually pays them a lot of money to advertise on store shelves (yes this is a thing), and they don't want to lose that ad money by not playing ball with nintendo, or any publisher for that matter.

One thing that leaves me kind of anxious about the Switch is: how are the devs that only developed for 3DS adapt to the new hardware? Are they going to keep developing with a handheld mentality and style, or will they try something closer to modern home console titles? For example, do you think a potential Bravely Third / New Silicon IP would look closer to Bravely Default/Second in terms of graphics or they will try and make the leap?
The Switch is now more powerful than a WiiU, and this means a gigantic leap from 3DS engines. I hope this doesn't mean many studios will drop down the volume of their work in order to adapt to HD developement, in the same way other did when moving to PS3/360.

Well we did get that lengthy devs list and there is a conference on January 12. ;)

Lets hope they catch up to the damn times

I mean its not like they have to change THAT much. Clearly assets in certain games are already created in HD and then run on 3DS's lower resolution screen

Looks at how good games look in Citra. Games with shitty base assets can only look so good when enhanced with an emulator.

The tools devs use are the same or better than current indie devs and then the game gets thrown onto a system that cant render them at the same quality that it was made.

A gaming store here in NSW (Australia) named Gamesmen have put the Switch poster outside with Zelda on as well. Been there today myself.

Moar!

I want to give a shoutout to the users who speculated about the 'NX' way back when there were no leaks or rumours, only vague statements from Iwata, and who first discussed at length, back and forth, how a shared library handheld/console would work. Also to the dedicated handheld crew who only had one wish: A powerful portable unit that would replace the Vita in terms of glorious hardware and the 3DS for franchises. Next week the cat is fully out of the bag.

Yuuuupppp

Vita Owners rejoice

I was sad that Sony decided to leave this market behind but excited that Nintendo decided to pick up the torch and iterate on the design

This will basically be my perfect system

Superglue the joycons to the thing and I could totally see Sony releasing such a system as Vita 2.

This is the thing that interests me most about Switch.

Hopefully the we still see the I am Setsuna + Bravely Default style games... I mean we still see Disgea games come out and I barely see them anywhere...

EDIT: The game that will determine how the rest of the pack go will definitely be Pokemon.

I dont but who knows

They have the money to piggyback if Switch takes off

I imagine they wont make any movements in this space until Nintendo strikes it hot

I had a dream last night that GAMelE had the Switch in stock and broke the street date this week. You could buy one for £399, but that was for some Zelda bundle that came with BOTW and a Zelda soft drink (yeah, I know - weird).

You can't be serious. I had the exact same dream except in euros.

I meant if they had been interested in making a Vita 2. Which they're clearly not.

Have you had an email confirmation yet, I registered before Christmas fir a Sunday slot and was expecting a email to confirm but I have received nothing.

It was my friend who won the tickets so he's arranged everything. He booked us in on the Saturday morning but he still hasn't had the final email with detailed confirmation etc.

They seem happy to let the Current Vita float where it has been the past few years and continue to double down on PS4 interation and VR

Im cool with that but it is interesting to see no challengers for Switch in that space...

Then again the market has changes and Switch clearly does this weird dance of competing with Mobile and Console in its own strange way

Between its uniqueness, brand power and focused support though... I expect it to do well

Just a heads up but we've had a confirmation email confirming date, number of attendees etc. So you may want to check into that.

I'm pretty sure his source IS Emily Rogers

He rarely has anything original except when he turns out to be wrong, and he often bandwagons on what she breaks first

Sorry, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. This just couldn't be further from the truth. Stop pretending you know anything about how I operate because it's something you have zero insight into.

I help Emily and others out all the time with their rumour work. She messaged me mere hours ago to ask me if I'd heard about a certain something, for instance. I knew about Pokemon Stars, I know about Metroid and Smash. Yesterday, I was the first person to express doubts about Zelda being released in Summer.

I have my own sources through which I am regularly uncovering new things. Recently, I was the first to talk about Switch Gamecube support, for example. I came on here talking about the Mario/Rabbids crossover and knew about that for months in advance. I even helped Laura Kate out with her report a little bit and backed up her research.

I am quietly sitting here, behind the curtain, contributing in ways you do not understand, so stop pretending to know me. I enjoy the work that Eurogamer, Laura and Emily do and help them out whenever I can. Just because I don't leak a lot under my own name doesn't mean that I'm bringing nothing to the table.

Your track record not so great so people may get suspicious of you.

Anyways, we getting a new "proper" Metroid?

Should this be a separate thread?

edit: What does it say? My work wont let me access it..
