World of Final Fantasy is the better Final Fantasy 2016 release

Not to take anything away from XV, which I would consider a valiant success after the lenghty development it faced and releasing upon insane levels of hype and expectations, but now that the dust has cleared, and having played the both of them - I have to say, World of Final Fantasy is simply the better game.

A lot of people wrote it off for its chibi artstyle but the consistency and overall look of the game is simply beautiful. The story is much more competently told, the back to basics turned based battle system is an absolute blast, the Pokemon-like mirage aspect is an engaging addition to the formula and the script is packed with humour that hits a lot more then it misses. It plays on nostalgia a lot, but it doesn't feel like it relies on it, instead it adds on it wonderfully. Playing the game gives me the same joyous feeling I've felt when I've played mainline entries from yesteryear, something XV simply never did.

For anyone who's slept on World of Final Fantasy, you are missing out on a gem of a game.

Spot on. I love me some XV, but I can't seem to stop playing World of Final Fantasy.

Counting Persona 5 is 2017 for most of us

WoFF was the best JRPG launched in 2016... it quality is ahead FFXV or Digimon.

That was expected for some from the previews early this year.

this is the correct opinion (and that by itself would be of any merit, but the game is indeed good)

although I will say the game isn't better than the other monster catching JRPGs that released this year

The game is like Pokemon with Final Fantasy cameo's galore. But the game doesn't really have a lot of substance since it lacks a good story and the stuff you can do in the post game is rather boring.

Still a good game though, I enjoyed my time with it.

No lies detected. I liked FFXV for the most part, other than some horrible pacing issues, but WoFF just had so much more charm to it.

If you don't have much nostalgia for past FF titles would you still recommend it? I'm like a couple of hours away from a platinum in XV and would like another JRPG to dive in to.

As a cure of insomnia yes.

Could not get into this game, will try again in a few months but XV is light years ahead of it for me. Hated the mirage system and the horrific 'glow' the graphics had to them (don't mind the art style), amongst other things. It just felt dull and stagnant as an experience.

The soundtrack is amazing though, and actually would be better for me than XV were it not for Hellfire and the Cleigne battle theme.

What most surprised me was how good the story envolve from middle to ending...

I was expecting a light and bland story but it was pretty good after all.

Yeap... it uses NPC from previous FFs but that is all... it doesn't rely on nostalgia to tell you the story.

I played the demo and it bored me to tears. I fucking hated the dialog/voice acting, and the battle system is slow and boring.

No, definitely not the better Final Fantasy game of 2016

There was one character who was almost as bad as Star Ocean 4's Lymle. SMH.

the demo doesn't represent the full game at all tbh

It really depends on why he/she didn't like the demo though. If it's because they found the gameplay lacking, sure, but if they didn't like the art-style, that won't change in the full game.

WoFF was a solid 7/10 while XV was 8/10.

One thing WoFF did was make a solid case why the series should not return to ATB. The battle system was just a snooze fest. It didn't help that while the OST was great, the two battle themes and the victory fanfare were all very weak imo. And that's a problem when you listen to those 90% of the time.

Tempted to pick it up for $20 on Vita right now, but I rarely use that little dude anymore. It seems more like a handheld game, right? But I'm trying to hold off for the PS4 version

The Battle systems has an adjustable battlespeed speed option in the menu as well as a fast forward button

You unlock like a dozen different battle themes as you play

Counting Trails of Cold Steel 2 launched in 2016 for most of us, you're terribly wrong.

Ehhhhhhhhhh

I'll give you that the game is more consistent than XV. There's no whack pacing decisions, not too much filler. Battle system is fun even if it's simple and lacks challenge. It's cute. Tugs nostalgia strings. Story is as plain as it gets, and the protagonists hilariously and intentionally extremely unlikable. I like the capture puzzle mechanic, although there's no uniqueness to the monsters except for mastery bonuses.

Nothing offensively bad about the game, but nothing that transcends into greatness.

Fam the OST is so much better as well.

Heck no, OST was whack and the remixes were all downgrades.

Heck no, Bravely Second, SMT:A and Paper Jam are well ahead. I think Digimon does a lot of things better too.

And you know, Sun and Moon destroy it.

This is the main reason why I didn't pick it up. I didn't even pick up Moon because I still have a ton of stuff left to do in Yokai Watch 2.

Technically, yes, I can't really disagree that it's a more solid game overall.

But the combat is just a variant of typical ATB style battles and it grew very boring after awhile. And the Pokemon style monster catching wasn't quite as addicting or fun as I had hoped it would be. I would be lying if I said FFXV, despite being an uneven game throughout, didn't enrapture me a lot more than World of Final Fantasy did.

It was just a more fascinating game to me and a lot more fun to actually play.

Looked extensively at the gameplay. It looks like a modern turn-based game that is desperately trying to be Retro. The visuals are beautiful but the chibi style is ugly. Whats worse is that the models are chibi like the old games, but it uses the exact same style of cutscenes that FFX-XII-XV does...

Even Final Fantasy 6 didn't have combat as deliberately slow and plodding as WoF does...why do all modern turn-based games move backwards with the formula instead of forwards like the last few ones did? Why the hell do you need to put a "Fast Forward" button into the combat system? Just don't make it pointlessly slow in the first place????

I can't believe people actually want Square to make more games like this.

WoFF makes a solid case against sucky ATBs with underdeveloped mechanics like stacking, not ATBs as a whole. X-2 is still fabulous.

Also change your battle theme in the options.

Is Bravely second better or worse than the first game?

Music is worse. New composer. Everything else is arguably as good if not better. Battle system iterates and improves. Story gets a bit more creative, and sooner. The repeating mechanic is done much more deftly.

I disagree as well.

Both games have its flaws and to be honest I didn't feel like WoFF has a better story than FFXV.

I'm not saying that FFXV has a good story because it doesn't have it, at least it doesn't explore it enough to be good.

But WoFF's story didn't get me any more excited either. It definitely had its moments but when it ended I was just... okay I guess.

Both games are good, but not as good as I was expecting them to be.

If I had to choose, I'd definitely give it to FFXV, even after all of its flaws, it's a pretty good game. I spent 150+ hours on it and I'm glad I did.
(It also has the best dungeon, hands down, that I have played in any kind of video game.)

Edit:

Also the OST in FFXV is way, way better than in WoFF, by far. Just clarifying.

I got distracted around half-way (
Nibelheim
) during the holidays. Will be getting back to it starting this weekend. I've really enjoyed what I've played so far.

Was super hyped for it but the end product put me to sleep.

I expected the characters and dialogue to be cringy and stupidly funny, but they were just downright annoying. Monster capturing wasn't any fun at all either, neither was the slow as fuck combat (even when sped up).

The entire thing just felt below average in aboslutely every aspect (except the soundtrack).

One could also argue the best Final Fantasy release of 2016 was the FFX/X-2 HD Remaster on PC

tehehe

2016 was the best year for Final Fantasy in a long while (Since 2007?).

The phone games released in the west this year (Brave Exvius and Mobius) were decent for what they were. We also got an HD remaster for FFIX, and unlike some people here, I thought that Final Fantasy Explorers was pretty fun.

Haven't played XV yet, but WOFF is pretty great so far. I'm about 8 hours in and about halfway through in the chapter count.

How could you just get on the internet and tell lies like that. Why?

Well, it is fun, but I enjoyed FFXV more in every way. I found the world, characters, music and mechanics far more entertaining in XV.

Glad you like WoFF so much though. I'm happy we have both tbh.
