North American Nintendo Switch Lineup

I'm just comparing both lineup. The Wii U one was way worse than this and people should really look at the games themselves instead of the amount.

People are looking at the games themselves. Aside from Zelda and 1,2 Switch, they're all ports of games that have been out for months.

We all knew that launch was going to suck, but we hoped that Mario, Splatoon and Skyrim would be there. They won't be.

I think most developers still haven't finished what they're doing, everything will come at a later date. Both Fifa and NBA are 2018 titles, maybe this fall will be the actual time to shine for the switch.

Goddammnit, I bought I am setsuna during the holiday sales to and went right into my backlog. Well i'm not going to rebuy that one. I will probably rebuy Disgaea 5 though. So thats

Zelda
Disgaea 5
Bomberman

Thats about right, for any console launch as long as theres a couple games to play thats plenty for me for a month or two. Probably more with Persona 5 and KH games coming out around then.

The lineup is acceptable to really core gamers and Nintendo fans, including myself, but to the general public? Yikes.

I'm gonna wait till Mario Odyssey to pick a Switch up. I'm sure by then there'll be a decent line up of games by then. I'm hoping we get a glimpse at Pokemon Stars before that though.

Zelda is receiving two special editions in NA—one with a map and a Switch case, one with all that and a desktop Master Sword.

Oddly, as a Wii U owner, this might be what persuades me to get a Switch at launch instead of waiting for Mario (as if the price would drop by then anyhow). I'd prefer to play Zelda portably as I'll be travelling, and I know I'll need a protective case, so I might as well make it the Zelda one.

That's an ABYSMAL launch lineup.

I'd argue every single other Nintendo system has had a better launch.

DS was worse: a Super Mario 64 port (albeit with great minigames that sold the DS concept) and a whole lot of nothing.

The Wii only really had two (TP and the bundled Wii Sports, the latter being what puts it well above the Switch), unless you were one of the people who bought into the hype about Red Steel.

I actually feel this is pretty standard for launch-day Nintendo; it's just that it was reasonable to expect much more since we are coming out of the Wii U drought. Speaking of which, if we're discounting TP and BotW as ports, between Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, the Wii U arguably had the best launch day before it was torpedoed by an absolutely dreadful first nine months.

Now wait for the core gamers to bitch about how their Switch doesn't get any games in a couple years because it sold like ass.

Alright GAF, Zelda Wii U, or Zelda + Switch? How much better is this thing gonna be on the Switch? Same special editions?

You can't be serious, right? Almost every launch since the Wii has not even had a killer app. Yeah this isn't great but it has Zelda and that's far more than any launch has had in a very long time.

It actually doesn't have zelda.

Why in the world would I slap down $300 to play zelda on a platform that's looking like it's going to flop when I already have a $300 nintendo machine that can play same said zelda?

There's absolutely nothing there for the system other than Mario, and that's looking like it's nearly a fucking year away. Why buy now when there's inevitably going to be much better deals for the system holiday 17, especially if the thing bombs like the Wii U did.

Plus, personally I find the Wii U version of BotW a better longrun investment anyways for the time being due to Cemu getting better and better by the week. It might be a Skyward Sword situation where I buy the game but end up spending most of my playtime playing it on an emulator for enhanced features that will render the game better than the switch version.

This is frankly pretty normal for any console launch in recent memory. The PS4 and Xbone didn't even have a killer app on the scale of Zelda, and both launches were also pretty fucking terrible.

Frankly, for a primarily PC gamer like myself, Zelda, Bomberman and Disgea should be fine for me, Mario Kart in April and other games releasing across the year should be enough to tide me over with physical releases.

the n64 had two games and the 3ds' breakout title was a low budget strategy game made by hungarians like come on

There's nothing on par with a solo system release like Super Mario 64. Zelda can be had by die hard Nintendo fans that already own the Wii U.

3DS launch was a mess agreements there. They fucked up the price too.

I still love the GBA launch and think it was one of the best launches of all time.

Rayman Legends, fuck off ubisoft. Make something new, stop peddling that 4 year old b grade garbage.

Zelda looks amazing but that's a bad list. Bomberman (if good) and tetris make nice filler download games but for big games to get at launch its really poor.

And wheres mother 3? that would have been a nice launch surprise.

Seems standard for a Nintendo console launch. One big hitter and not much else, the question is how quickly the other Nintendo games start coming. They can't afford another Wii U situation where we are waiting a year for new games.

Yeah, pretty heavy hyperbole or outright concern trolling swamping GAF. Historically, this is only meh, not disastrous. In any case everything good of the WiiU will be condensed into the first 10 months (!) of the system! This alone should be telling that this is way ahead of the WiiU in terms of content.
Pricing remains very contentious... Obviously HD rumble isn't for free, and unless 1,2 Switch becomes only half the phenomenon that Wii Sports was, it may be another slightly too expensive gamble on control innovation.

What a disaster. The Wii U at least had some third party support out of the gate, this makes it clear that they have outright abandoned Nintendo.

LOL at you guys "only" getting Zelda. This is at least a 50+ hour game.
It's a 50+ hour game I will enjoy for 10% of the price on my Wii U.
Incidentally, Nintendo needs to either can or indefinitely delay the Wii U version of that game in order to counter the damage from tonight's conference.

My guess

March-Zelda
April- Mario Kart
May-Arms
June- Splatoon 2

Then we are at e3. Guess we'll find out how the rest of the year looks then and if any of the other rumored games we heard about were real.

I am pretty down on this right now. This is massively disappointing overall and it seems like "Kimishima is a businessman", really fucked with this. Nintendo has always been Nintendo but they have gone far and beyond here with anticonsumer nonsense with this thing.

So 300 bucks, no online features at launch, a terrible launch line up outside of Zelda and this thing is supposedly going to be sold out for months?

I wonder how many people realize WiiU isn't getting Zelda in March and by the time it does we will have the second wave of first party NIntendo releases like Mario Kart and ARMS.

Me too... sigh.

Apparently, it's still "Spring."

So probably in April/May, along with Mario Kart. Something tells me that they didn't want to blow their load all on launch. Give some staggered releases, so there's less drought times.

Let's not forget. After Wii U's launch, the only thing anyone got for 8-10 months was Super Luigi U, and Pikmin 3.

I know that for people that wanted more games this is disappointment.

But come on now. The Wii U ? It had fucking nothing. This is way better than the Wii U.

Using the Wii U as comparison is fucking ridiculous. That's literally, hands down, the worst possible standard to compare the Switch to, it would be DISASTROUS for it not to have a better lineup.

Still, that's one of the shittiest lineups I've seen in awhile.

I will probably get:

Zelda: BotW 3/3
Super Bomberman R 3/3
Mario Kart 8: Deluxe Edition 28/04
ARMS 22/3 - 20/6
Splatoon 2 20/6 - 22/9
Super Mario Odissey 1/10 - 31/12

I think the concern is not just that it's a bad launch lineup, it's that it is this bad even though they are developing for a single device. Also considering that they've barely been releasing anything for WiiU/3DS for some time now.
