And you guys thought Switch line up was weak, what other console gets two launch with 2 old Dragon Quest games (which they're charging 9000 yen for!)?

Seriously though, weak launch line up for Japan.

I'm surprised Level 5 was a no show. They have so much stuff coming this year that we haven't heard anything about since their press conference.

I mean it is possible they are saving big announcements for September or something so they might show level 5 and capcom stuff there. I knew the whole monster hunter direct after switch trailer announcing just the 3ds version was a red flag but some really thought they were holding the announcement lol.

That's a weak line up. And no Monster Hunter XX is nonsense. The game won't hit Capcom expectations of 2 million shipped just in 3DS.

I'm surprised Level 5 was a no show. They have so much stuff coming this year that we haven't heard anything about since their press conference.

Being Level 5, everything will get delayed. So, no need for a rush.

If it does get Zelda, Mario and Splatoon 2 in its first year, that's a pretty good combo overall. I think there's more in store though...

Where did Xenoblade 2 have a date tho?

Zelda is not that strong in japan though. But looking on some Jp fans reaction, it seems they receive it quite positively.

Nintendo has a stronger line up for Switch first year comparing to 3DS, the problem is they are heading again for anemic launch software titles. Zelda won't do much.

The $299 launch price won't help Switch. Nintendo dun goofed.

Splatoon 2 is a system seller for sure but it isn't out until after a few months. Switch is going to struggle hard with such software lineup.

Even Wii U launch line up was better than Switch in Japan. Wii U had:
- NSMB Wii U (Main Nintendo Game)
- Nintendo Land (Party Game)
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Main Third Party Game)
- Ports
(Zombie U doesn't count in Japan)

Switch:
- Zelda Breath of Wild (Main Nintendo Game)
- 1 2 Switch (Party Game)
- Ports

Zelda is weaker than NSMB Wii U, I'm not sure 1 2 Seitch will have any appeal, and there's lack of main Third Party game, that we thought would be MHXX.

lineup is garbage but are we really acting like Zelda being on Wii U too is a huge issue?
don't see it.

The issue is no splatoon at launch to supplement, not some version on a dead console. (Or MK8D at launch with new racing tracks). Oh well

Are we sure about MHXX not coming? I guess it would've been mentioned but everything has been kind of jumbled

edit
JP lineup seems better than NA though.

Yeah Nintendo really botched this if they don't end up with Pokémon, Yokai Watch, Snack World, and Monster Hunter on this by the end of the year in addition to what they have shown so far.

They really needed those remaining 3DS titles to round out their lineup as well. Pikmin, Yoshi, Mario Sports Mix and even Ever Oasis.

I don't quite get the way the launch is planned for this thing. It feels like Splatoon is set for Summer intentionally to emulate last year, but that feels like a missed opportunity but then it being a sequel and seemingly greatly expanded looked promising for longevity over a port.

Really confused on the lack of MHXX though.

And the line-up for Japan feels week but, then, what the hell is "Tales of" game? Is that at launch?

I guess this explains the 3DS line-up plans, though, given the price of the Switch.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a one year late port though.

I think Tales might just be the next mothership with PS4 which is why they didn't specify.

While the launch lineup is lacking, the year one lineup as a whole seems to be fairly strong.
Because this is a game that I expect to see in bundle later in the Holiday. So yeh, the LTD sales will be good for it but I don't see it being a system seller. Do you?

You don't think people will buy Mario Kart in April because it might be announced for a holiday bundle?

Not sure, seemed weird to toss it in at the end there. It feels like the launch line-up isn't even finalized at this point with so many TBDs everywhere and peculiarly absent titles.

I have no idea what Capcom is doing with MHXX, though, lol.

From the looks of it to me, its a weak launch but the whole year seems pretty ace if that whole TBD gets released for Japan. They have a pretty solid month to month schedule (with gaps) from launch to Kart to Splatoon, etc.

There are more unannounced titles coming in 2017 that could sell well but yeah, weak launch lineup and a worrisome gap between launch and Summer :|

And DarkLordMalik already predicting Mario Odyssey selling less than Mario 3D World? Some of you should never change, my god!

These are my feelings as well. In the coming days and weeks things should clear up a lot more.

We are talking about Mario Kart 8 port. Not a brand new Mario Kart 9.

I was talking about a potential Holiday bundle to say that it will have a good LTD thanks to bundles, maybe. But I don't see it selling well at launch on Switch because it is not a new game. The new content in itself won't make it sell great unless it is worth it.

If the additional content is big it will drive sales.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the follow-up to the Wii U's Mario Kart 8. It brings a new maps, new characters from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr., new Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast games modes, and new items, along with everything from Mario Kart 8, including all the DLC content. Additionally, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will offer up to eight players in local wireless multiplayer.

I don't see anything worthwhile here as a 'new content'.

I would not worry too much about the launch month. Hardware does well on launch period anyway. The spacing of the big games will be the key to its success. Splatoon 2 may have missed launch period but that's not far off anyway. And Mario Kart still is in there in between.

Still too early to see how the Japanese market will react to the Switch. It can be the next 3DS or can be the next Vita.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I think Switch is in a worse position than 3DS at lauch thanks to it's price.

I mean the 3DS was the DS successor...while Switch replaces WiiU for now. I dont think Nintendo expects 3DS performance at this price. But the big games will be there in the first year - so it should perform well enough.

Lack of MHXX Switch at the event is a mistake. Unless Capcom want to give it it's own event, but even then I'm not sure.

Switch has a good software line up for the year, but it's pretty much going to be Zelda, Puyo Puyo Tetris and Bomberman for me at launch, until Mario Kart.

MHXX Switch is not happening any time at launch or near launch. Capcom is committed to the 3DS release. I already said this the last time and everyone who believed it was coming was like "THE TIMING IS TOO GOOD". Lol.

The next MH announcement for Switch will be MH5.

Based on what we've seen and the rumors it seems as though they are adding a fairly large amount of content in addition to the DLC being added.

And I still expect it to do well.
The major new addition that might appeal to Japanese gamers are the Splatoon characters. But do you honestly expect new characters to make a port sell well on a new hardware?

We are not talking about a Mario Kart 8 port on 3DS here, but Switch, which is an unknown territory right now.

This would only make sense if there's another MH event, barring that it's just a 3DS game.

Which is kinda bizarre, lol.

I understand now why Nintendo is keeping the 3DS alive in Japan (and the world) at the super cheap price. The Switch is going to be a slowburn on year one.

Man, that price, along with paid online, with nothing but ports to play?

Will be interesting to see Japanese reaction... Hopefully Splatoon is still hot and Minecraft is ready ASAP.

If Switch makes it that far.:/

I got my hopes up because the UK manager tweeted about the event.:(
