Nintendo Switch Joy-Con $80, Pro Controller $70

Anoregon

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Yes nintendo this is how you win back lapsed fans, by charging more than any other console for additional controllers while feverishly promoting local multiplayer.

I hate that I was ever a nintendo fan.

You slide them into the tablet while docked. I asked the same thing and they showed me the info a couple of pages back. The grip included is not a charging grip unfortunately.

I have to say this is cheeky asking to pay another £28 for what should be in the box. So if you want to play when your switch is docked & the joycons have ran out of juice it is impossible then unless you buy another accessory (pro controller)

"hello?" "this is vagina"
I live with two other people and we all play games together. This thing is going to be ludicrously expensive to fully equip for multiplayer.

(I don't consider a single Joy-con fully equipped)

You want a HDMI port on a tablet that's also supposed to also function as a charging method? Now who's getting expensive?
What?

Obviously there should be a power supply port alongside that like literally every other tablet has, along with the Wii U gamepad. No need for a $90 dock.

I disagree. No one had a problem with the Switch's premise/functionality until the price was revealed. Now we're talking about eliminating what makes it a Switch because of pricing.
How can you defend the existence of the dock? We didn't know what it was prior to this presentation. Now we know it's $90 of useless aesthetics.

Nintendo should have offered a non-tablet version in a RoKu-type device that came with two controllers for $150.

Not been able to read everything on the switch so apologies if it's already been answered, but have they confirmed anywhere if Wii u pro controllers will be compatible? That's kind of a buy or pass situation for me, not willing to fork out for 3 new controllers again so soon.

Pricey. Seems a bit at odds with the multiplayer message that seemed to be the focus. This is potentially going to be a bit of a barrier to that?

Nintendo was the last company I expected to price themselves out of the competition. Between this, the $300 console, and pay to play online there's no way I'll be buying one in the near future

Imagine losing/forgetting one of your controllers on a bus. A portable gaming device with replaceable peripherals shouldn't have these prices.

There is nothing wrong with the battery life of the Wii U Pro controller.

Oh, I'm aware - it's my secondary PC gamepad at the moment.
If Switch Pro has 100+ hours, I might consider getting it, just for better face button placement (and analog triggers, if it even has them).

Wii U Pro controller doesn't have rumble though, right?

Because this does, along with motion controls and some other things the Wii U Pro controller doesn't, which will likely impact the battery life.

I doubt it.

It does have rumble.

Not to mention that multiplayer party games have been focused on 1/2 button controls lately. Cheap, disposal Joy Cons would have suited the angle they're going for really well, which is why everyone thought that's the route they were going to go.

That's not how what works? I understand why the peripherals are priced how they are: Nintendo wants a functional, competitive price point for the Switch at $300, but also wants the highest margins it can possibly get away with for separate peripherals. They're pushing the limits of what gamers will stomach, but they're apparently willing to give it a shot. Maybe signaled to some degree by the success of the $150 Xbox Elite controller, though I don't agree with that assessment if so.

The standalone prices for each peripheral just don't make any sense when surveying what's included in the $300 bundle. People on a budget who are interested in the peripherals will be looking at grabbing a second $300 bundle and then heading to eBay to resell anything extraneous.

I can't think of a major console release where that has ever been a serious consideration until now.

That's a wait and see. I would hope Nintendo would have done their benchmarking vs competition but I accept, they are higher than normal.

Pro Controller Price is inexcusable, but I think the fact that it comes with "two Joycons" in the box technically goes a long way towards mitigating the $80 for two more

I mean, it literally has to come with two Joycons packed in for the thing to work in the way they've been showing. It's not like they're doing anyone a favour.

They're neat little things but what the fuck?

So if you want to play that Arms game 2 player you'll need to pay $160 + the game. Nevermind. They only cost $10 more than a Wiimote did. Dock is still ridiculous.

You don't need to, you just buy the console and game.

Honest question. Why buy a pro controller? Split hands is super comfortable. You've got the grip if you want to use it...

Why buy that thing for $70 for something that's less functional?

I don't like playing split hands, i hated it on the Wii.
Also, it has a dpad. No way I'm buying one for that price though.

So basically having a good d-pad costs $70. Otherwise I don't see the point of the Pro here as it's essentially identical to the basic Joy-Con when in cradle, unlike on Wii/Wii U where the Pro was a nice traditional alternative to their unique controllers.

Yeah. The Wii U pro controller was nice, light, had great battery life, served a purpose. This seems to be a $70 d-pad for a system that doesn't seem to yet have any games that need a d-pad announced for it.

I promised this thing to my kid as I refused to buy the WiiU and now I'm gagging a little. I envisioned having the neighborhood munchkins over for some local multiplayer and thought I'd pick up a few extra controllers........yeah, not so much. They can fuck right off with that pricing structure.

I'm just catching up on stuff this morning, but what technology is even in the pro controller to warrant that price?

Nintendo knows that them small ass controllers are gonna get misplaced and lost. That's why they selling left and right ones separately as an option. lol. $50 though? Ouch

This is the company that sells 3DS handhelds in the UK without an AC adapter (which uses a proprietary connection instead of something ubiquitous like microUSB) or other charging method included in the box, because "people probably already have one from our past handhelds".
