Nintendo Switch: Online Service Features

Paid online, not ready at console launch, America only service launch, no lobby and vocal chat at launch, pricey console, pricey controllers, pricey hidden costs, lack of games at launch, still no ethernet port and probably many other things I forgot. All of this doesn't look very good.

Well, I guess it means no more new Monster Hunter for me, I'll stick with 2G and 4U.

This is the only valid response to all of this. I'm reading through these posts just stunned as fuck. Even for Nintendo, a lot of this stuff seems absolutely insane.

Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about online gaming (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole online. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase the Switch Online Service, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo has alienated an entire market with this move.

Nintendo, publicly apologize and cancel Nintendo Switch Online Service for Switch or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Scorpio.

I am sorry.... Voice chat app?
Do i understand this correctly that you will have to download app to your smartphone to invite players and use voice chat? Does this thing do not have enough spare power to run this simultaneously with the game or what?

I don't know, but I don't have a Smartphone, so this is a bit annoying. Might as well just use a PC client.

that Smash and Pokemon are going to be locked behind this

Oh shit... I didn't even think. The Switch, and consoles going forward, will have paid online, meaning no more free, casual online battling and trading. Damn...

Confirmed by NOA: Monthly free classic game on Switch is indeed only available for that month. More deets on Virtual Console before launch.

if that wasn't clear enough

Sheesh, even my explanation was unclear. Sorry.

After a month, you can no longer PLAY the monthly Switch online classic unless you buy it.

This is just hilarious with how bad it is. How do you come up with "download a smartphone app to do parties and voice chat"?

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
One month access is very Nintendo.

They just don't get it, man.

I don't understand how they can still manage to not get it. It's like explicit effort on their part to just actively disregard everything that is happening in modern console gaming.
Their need to be so uniquely "Nintendo" and actively ignore anything that any other game company is doing is just making things worse every time.

Nintendo, I love you but this isn't easy.

Maybe it is only $20-$30 a year?

Starting to think I might be better off sticking with Splatoon 1. Really don't want to pay for a subscription just to play Splatoon online. Free games a la PS+ would have been a big incentive for me, but a monthly classic rental is practically insulting.

How do they value old ass games this month that they only let you play it for that singular month on a damn subscription service?

If the service is more than $25 a year I'll flat out laugh.

All of it depends on price. I seriously doubt it will be same price as Xbox Gold and PS+. Especially with this reception. If it's the same price then yeah it is unacceptable.

Given everything price related we have been given about the switch I dunno how you have any faith. It will be more expensive than psn and xbl if anything.

Nintendo fans will defend this though, but that pool is getting smaller and smaller, really sad to see what's happening to Nintendo.

I can't honestly believe that someone can still defend this, but I'm sure someone will prove me wrong. This is incredible but at the same time, very Nintendo

They'd have been better off not offering anything. This just invites an extremely unfavorable comparison to what their competitors are offering.

If the service is any more than $30, this is ridiculous.

Seriously considering canceling my switch pre order and wait for this online shit show to clear itself up first. Not really certain what I'm buying into with this console.

Wait, what?!

I mean... huh?!

I can't believe what I am reading in this thread. I already think offering their roms (instead of all kinds of newer games like the competition does) is a poor value proposition but fuck this shit.

This is really official?

Ay Nintendo.

Anyway, as I said before I'm not interested in the online service so this doesn't affect me. What I will say is that I expect this to be the last time I buy NES/SNES/etc classics. This shit better be properly tied to my account from now on, with no bullshit. You've been warned, Nintendo.

Considering the price of everything else related to the system, don't hold your breath.

It would be hilarious if this were somehow more expensive than PS+.

Oh and also the way this online portioning out of Roms works, I don't expect VC transfer of old purchases anymore.

Paying 330 Euro for the console, 70 Euro for the Games, even Mario Kart 8 is 60 Euro. I mean I don't know what we will need to pay for this online service, but it would say 50 Euro is very likely. I would definitely not pay this for what they are offering here.

I just can't get over how insanely bad they botched the online functionality on this system. Somehow it's even worse than the Wii U, AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!
