SWERY65 Returns to Game Development, Opens New Studio White Owls Inc

Does Microsoft even still have his phone number?

Like if you think Platinum is too niche for your system I don't think the answer to that problem is Swery.

Really pleased to hear about this. I loved Deadly Premonition and enjoyed what I managed to play of D4. Hopefully he does something new and soon. It's always a trip with his games.

Unfortunately I don't think this will mean D4 season 2 since he doesn't own the rights for that.

Still, I'm very happy with these news. Does anyone if he ever finished that book he was writing about a narrator who is a cat?

didnt he want to make a game about a high school detective girl who gains energy from masturbating to solve crimes?

He should get right on that.

I'm very happy. ;3;

Hope you enjoyed your break Swery! And though maybe a bit selfish of me, I'm very happy he started his own studio.

Shame D4 likely never will see an end, but I'll buy any game Swery puts out.

I was afraid he was gone for good after announcing his retirement on twitter. Glad to see he was just keeping us guessing after all! Welcome back, SWERY <3

Where are all these Name+Number developers I've never heard of coming from? First SUDA51 (???) now this. dafuq GAF

2 more than I ever knew existed. is going by a name+number a trendy thing in Japan?
Suda51's full name is Goichi Suda. Go (five) Ichi (one), so his is an awesome play on his name.

No idea about Swery, but I need D4 season 2. I wonder if he can get the rights? Probably not. RIP.

Nice to know he has risen. New studio is whuuuut~

From a story perspective, D4 was garbage. Watched a playthrough and it was off the wall for hilarity's sake. DP was a lot more grounded, if you could believe that. Even York would scoff at the main character suspecting everyone with the letter D.

Suda51 has been around for YEARS, he has been in gaming since the 90s. He made a wrestling game on the SNES that had a weird, dark, yet interesting story. Has since worked on many weird but interesting game, ranging from Killer7, to No More Heroes, to Shadows of the Damned, to Lollipop Chainsaw, to The Silver Case, to the recent Let It Die.

SWERY65 has less under his name but some real cult classics. They made Spy Fiction for the PS2, which didn't garner much attention. What most people first knew him for was the cult classic Deadly Premonition game which got a pretty big cult following. He then worked on D4, which also has a cult following. Also worked on smaller things and helped with other projects, but those are the three "Swery" games.

Both are recognized for having their own brands of weird, quirky, but with definitely a unique appeal games. Not perfect games or games for everyone, but games unlike anything else out there really.

Thanks for the context guys. I've been gaming since the 90s but I guess I never paid much attention in that direction. Will be keeping an eye out for their future work.

SWERY comes from his last name, Suehiro, which is pronounced "su-ay-hee-ro" or "sweryo" in Japanese. I think the 65 thing is just something he tacked on out of admiration for Suda51 - IIRC there's a joke in D4 where David mentions that no one knows what the 65 means.

Great news! I just started playing Deadly Premonition for the first time too and I'm really liking it so far.

Best news to start this week!

After Spy Fiction, Deadly Premonition and D4, i'd buy everything he'll release next. Still sad we will probably never get D4 Season 2 :(

Kinda weird there are people on NeoGAF who don't know Swery yet.

He follows me on Twitter.

I have no idea why.

I guess I should drop all hope of a D4 season two then, but I'll gladly experience Swery's next project. His style is so... avant-garde.

Let us also not forget that he is writing a novel, with maybe the best premise ever?

SWERY said:
In a British countryside town, there is a murder case, and a mystery unfolds that is written from the perspective of the cat. It’s like a version of Deadly Premonition but set in Britain.

So happy right now... now, please, Deadly Premonition 2 or D4 Season 2 (although I don't know who owns those IPs). Access Games and MS?

Glad he's back and healthy anyway

Great news!

That said, I hope he avoids working with Microsoft this time though, for obvious reasons (*cough* Scalebound *cough*).
