40 USD = 52.92 CAD at the moment. Looks like we're getting screwed by $2.08.

Wait how much is the game on digital? Isn't it like $20?
Afterbirth and the base game (Rebirth) combined is $26 Canadian on other platforms. I really wanted a good portable Binding of Isaac (3DS wasn't the greatest), but a $30 price increase for the Switch is ridiculous. I can't justify a purchase, especially when I already own Rebirth on Wii U and 3DS.

I guess the Switch is a success! Lots of trade-in's in the thread. I hope it's a great system, it definitely looks like a cool time, I'll join you all during the fall once Mario hits.

Man, is Binding of Isaac for Switch really $55 dollars? What the hell is with that pricing? It was the only launch window title apart from Zelda and Arms I was interested in.

First they just sorta give up on Afterbirth on Wii U and then they target Scrooge fucking McDuck with that Switch price. What the hell. Really fun game but why treat the fans like that?

I'm not a big SF fan, the only one I played was 3D also.

This game sucks because on top of fighting enemies, I have to fight the crappy controls. You can't play it normally too. I got through half but I can't stand it, and I don't want to lose trade in value. I already know the last boss will piss me off, and there won't be much story anyways. I don't have the time to play games I don't even like, EB gives me an easy way out since I get back what I paid.

Borrow it from the library. You can beat it in a week.

It's also been on sale a bunch of times so I doubt it would be worth a lot in the future. See Metroid Other M.

I think most of us preordering are on pretty much on the same train of thought that the trade-in deals will never be better and the price won't be going down substantially in this country any time soon.

True. That double trade-in is a hardcore incentive. If it weren't for the monster influx of incoming games, I would jump in there with the rest. Zelda is too hard to pass up!

Splatoon 2 being in the summer is going to be so hard to ignore till the fall, I want in on that one big time.

Ah gotcha. Maybe my nights of Splatoon playing got me accustomed to being able to swing the gamepad around while maneuvering the sticks and triggers at the same time, but it's definitely not for everyone. Good that you're able to get back your money on it though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Afterbirth+ an additional expansion on top of just Afterbirth?

Question re: trade in to EB for switch

I have a bunch of games I never opened yet that I want to trade in. Should I trade them still in the wrapping or should I open them first in order to qualify as a trade in? I'm concerned they might think I stole the games but the truth is my backlog is massive I haven't had anytime to play games like starfox

I have a bunch of sealed games because of a large backlog as well. I rarely trade in or sell games though, unless I have multiple copies, or if I know I can get the game for cheaper at a later time.

Anyway, if you know you're gonna trade the game in for sure, just tear open the shrink wrap. It's not like you're gonna get more for them if you don't.

Wish I had some stuff that I'd be willing to trade in, but with my spending limit being fairly low I generally don't buy games I don't plan on keeping in the first place.

That's just the games themselves. I can't even imagine trading in my Wii U since I have several games for it that I'd never be able to play otherwise.

Thanks Jinto I have enough games to get the switch for 0 dollars

Just finished looking through my unplayed games, checking out their trade in value, and seeing what I can buy them for now...

I spent way too much on games. :/

For me, the E3 deals and Prime discounts aren't even worth it. Except for a few games, I'm not buying anything new anymore.

Same for me. I had 15+ preorders from E3 last year and now only have 1 which is Nier Automata. I cancelled everything else and am just waiting for sales now instead of paying $56+tax per game which I won't even play right away.

The one thing I dread about the Switch is the very real possibility of Xenoblade 2 having a SE/CE, and not being able to get a preorder because the scramble for it is gonna be hell.

Is Mario Kart 8 part of this promotion? It's listed as having a TIV of $25

These trade-in deals are really tempting except I can't give up all of these great Wii U games. Yes, there are confirmed Switch versions of Mario Kart and Lego City Undercover (and I'm sure Smash will be the next big announcement), but what about Nintendo Land, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 and several others. The dual screen games won't even be possible on Switch. As much of a flop as the Wii U was, it still produced a handful of the best games ever made (especially if you care about local multiplayer), and they may never have another home.

That's why I'm only trading the Wii U titles that are confirmed to be coming to Switch. No news yet for Mario Maker, Smash, etc. so I'm keeping them until they're announced. I'm sure they'll have another good trade deal until then.

It's been a long time since I traded towards a game at EB Games, can someone remind me how they calculate it?

If Mario Kart 8 yields $50, is that counted towards the price before taxes? $79.99 - $50 and then add taxes on the remaining $29.99? Or is it $79.99 + taxes then deduct the $50?

The first way if you put it towards the game right away, and the second way if you put it on a gift card and then towards something.

Pre-tax. So $50 - $79.99 = $29.99 x taxes.

So in essence that $50 is actually worth more than $50, as in Ontario for example it saves you an added $6.50 in taxes.

That sounds like a good plan. Decided to keep my Wii U and games but may just trade in MK8 so I can grab the Switch version whenever I decide to get the system. My Splatoon copy is digital though so not much I can do there.

I'd suggest keeping them sealed in case they do not want to buy them from you (have too much stock) or you don't want to sell it (unhappy with TIV offered). That way you'll preserve their value on kijiji/ebay as an alternative. I've traded in still sealed games before. It shouldn't be a problem of them thinking they were stolen, especially if there's a mix of sealed and opened. I'm sure it's not uncommon to buy something and never get around to playing it.

EB wont let you trade-in sealed games. You will 100% need to open them before trading them in.

That said, they wont think you stole them. Its not uncommon for "collectors" to have sealed games in their backlog.

All that Switch talk. You guys usually sway me into getting stuff (like the Pro) at release.

But I really just don't feel it here. Kind of glad because I don't have budget for it.

Can't wait t'il the thread slows down a little. Can't keep up right now. XD

Trade-ins are calculated pre-tax. That's why the PS4 Pro deals were actually pretty good because on top of the ~$210-260 they were giving for the console trade in, you also saved the tax making it closer to $300, which would be difficult to get selling privately.

Hah, I got suckered into getting a PS4 Pro when they had trade promos for that. It was all too tempting with everyone posting bout trading towards the Pro. Should've waited for some of the good deals we got on the slim around Boxing Day like I originally planned. I don't even have a 4k TV nor have I played many Pro enhanced games yet lol.

Not this time GAF, no way, i'm not taking the bait this time!

I am not crazy right? Based on whats in the box for the switch, either have to unplug the dock and use that power cable to power on go or buy a new USB C cord right?

Correct. Don't buy the official Nintendo one for $40, any USB C charger will do.

Thankfully my phone uses USB C so I'm already covered.

Yeah, the single provided AC adapter is for the dock. If you wanna charge the system on the go, you'll need to unplug it or get a separate usb-c charger for convenience.

BestBuy's Switch dates are all wonky. If I preorder Zelda / Switch from BB, will I probably get them day 1? Sorry, never ordered from BestBuy before.

Doesn't come with the map either and the soundtrack is a "selection" which might or might not be the same as the NA one. Case is also different.

I actually like that Boxart more. But yeah, No case or coin sucks. I'd gladly trade the shitty sword statue for the case and coin.

Thanks everyone for the EB Games trade-in info. Gonna go offload Mario Kart 8 for Breath of the Wild, I guess.

How easy is it for them to switch pre-orders to another game? Say, if I wanted Mario Kart 8 Deluxe instead.

Ugh. I may just trade in my wiiu with splatoon, mk8, smash hyrule warriors and WW and just get the console for free (31.99 at that point) I wasn't going to... but I don't remember the last time I even turned my WIIU on..
