Phil Spencer: '2017 won't be Halo FPS/Gears led'

That seems... odd. Maybe Halo 6 is taking longer than expected and won't release this year?

I can't imagine Sea of Thieves or Crackdown 3 "leading" Microsoft's lineup.

Halo is usually a 3-4 year gap between mainline entries. We may get the first teaser for it though I'd imagine.

No exclusives, doesn't mean that there won't be showcase games to show off the extra power. Crackdown will be one of those.

Sure, but why are some people expecting a new Halo for that? It's only going to be a resolution bump and HDR, and the game still has to run on the Xbox One, so wanting a Scorpio for a specific game seems a bit... odd to me. Specific games are never going to sell this machine - it's the impact it will have on ALL of your games going forwards that will sell it.

I've heard rumblings that the new PD has moved to a new dev, but I don't know the veracity of the source, so take with a grain of salt.

You need to bring something more concrete to the table otherwise it wont be grains of salt, it'll be gallons

Look at what they have been doing and decide why else they are bringing this game back. It's perfect for microtransactions

Eeeurgh, I guess anything with cards will do

You are just posting this to stir the pot and get SOR5 excited.

I hope my last few posts dont get me hailed as the new "PD and aliens and illuminati is real" guy, I always try to be just a bit grounded in reality

No. I think that's what Spencer is referring to tbqh. Microsoft's most recent statement on the game that I know of DENIES that the game has been canceled.

My expectation is that people will read my remark and either ignore it or go "huh, that's interesting." I don't have any information, just recall hearing that the game was still in development, but don't know how true or false this claim is. All I'm saying is I wouldn't go "yeah they definitely canceled the game."

FYI Halo games come out every 3 years. I expect Halo 3 Anniversary this year then Halo 6 next year.

This "every X years" logic is what led to so many people expecting a TES 6 announcement at last year's E3 =P

Chances are high that Halo 6 will happen next year, but it's an important enough franchise that I wouldn't mind if they took another year or two on top to really ensure a groundbreaking sequel.

Phantom Dust has huge potential in the online gaming scene and Microsoft can turn it into its own Overwatch. The original was quite futuristic for its time so the remaster has a chance in doing well.

Here's gamesindustry.biz on that very topic.

When asked to comment on the report, Microsoft reissued the statement it released back in February, and the official line is that the reboot of Phantom Dust has not been cancelled.

All we know is that they're not working with Darkside anymore. Make of that what you will.

Mainline, yes. We get spinoffs like the twin-stick shooters and Halo Wars off that schedule.

Safe money's on Halo 6 for next year.

It's remaster of an old game, a game that didn't sell well to begin with. And the "remaster" work is really minimal when it comes to graphics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8_XXTe66_U

Oh wow, just the original game with Xbox Live support. 480p resolution they say in the video. Also, when asked about a new Phantom Dust, she says it'll depend on the response to this release, so that should answer the question about what Phil's talking about.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
This is a Forza Motorsport year isn't it? So Halo Wars, and Forza 7, sprinkled in with Crackdown and something else?

Gaaah alright, I mean dont get me wrong, knowing how things are the chances of you being the correct party in this are astoundingly higher than mine.

Friggin' hell calm down? If any speculation of mine is incorrect so be it, but its videogames not speculation about the Holocaust.
I died inside a little the day they announced the cancellation and then again with Scalebound. It's still raw bro. Don't take it personal.

That article is from April 2015.

Why are you using a 21month old link?

I could find one in that year that says Scalebound is coming also

Yeah, but it's the last official word on the subject I could find, so. *shrug*

I'm not here to build a compelling case for whether or not the game is coming out. I have no idea. Just heard references to it here and there. I feel like ya'll are taking this way more seriously than I meant it.

So in summary:

Poster posts bullshit

Other posters "hey now, that's bullshit"

Original poster " don't take me seriously"

Is Crackdown supposed to be a big franchise? I honestly don't even remember the last game.

Crackdown could be a massive franchise if not for MS rushing C2 out way too fast.
Taking place in the same city with a selling point of 'Now with Zombies' were sure signs to stay away from it.

You just might get your wish this E3. Still too early to tell though since nothing is nowhere near finalized.

I just really REALLY hope they dont masturbate about the hardware too much for the fanboy audience,

4K is well and good, but a Native 4K Dashboard to scroll around in aimlessly isnt going to do me anything.

Quick and nice showing of Scorpio, then. loads. of. games.

At the very least, a consensus on this thread is that a lot of folks are really looking forward to State of Decay 2 and unless Undead Labs screw royally which I don't think they will, Microsoft can at least count on that title for 2017 to be a feather on their cap.

Don't get your hopes up. Temper expectations so you will be less likely to be disappointed

Forza Motorsport 7
Halo Wars 2
Crackdown 3
Sea of Thieves
State of Decay 2
Cuphead

Ashen
Phantom Dust HD
Fable Fortune

Actually not a bad year. They have 2 big problems though. First, after cancellation of Scalebound and in absence of Gears/Halo they don't have a AAA game with an story driven campaign. Second, There's absolutely nothing for 2018 and beyond!
