Pillars of Eternity 2 announcement incoming?

Apparently this website just went up:
http://www.obsidian.net/la/

Also the director of PoE tweeted this:
*SNIP*

He's doing a live QA/commentary thing on Twitch later tonight so I'd guess that's where they'll announce it.

I wonder if it will be Kickstarter? Or Figstarter? Or... non-starter?

Edit: Apparently I don't know how to embed tweets. Here's the link to the tweet: https://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/821741685109469184

Edit edit: Twitch link here: https://www.twitch.tv/obsidian
Past commentaries/QAs have been at 4PM PST, so I assume that's when this will go down as well.

Pillars was great, Tyranny was good. Always glad to have Obsidian around doing their thing. Excited to learn what this is.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Man I got distracted and still haven't finished my initial Tyranny run. Would definitely be super pumped for a Pillars sequel, the first one is great.

Josh had teased it enough that I hope it can just be announced. I would imagine it ends up on Fig?

They sent out a survey to backers of PoE 1 a while back asking them about their first campaign clearly gearing up for the KS campaign for PoE 2, so it's been expected for a while now.

I'm excited. I greatly enjoyed PoE 1

I know it's basically impossible, but a switch version would be perfect for this game

Just recently fell in love with these games. Beat tyranny and I'm working my way through pillars now. I'll be first in line for a pillars sequel

Figured a PoE2 was inevitable. Hopefully its as good of a major upgrade as BG1>2. Or even if its just more PoE i'm down. The original nailed exactly what I was hoping for it to do.

The writing in Pillars was soooo good.

God I loved that game and its world/ mythology.

Here's to finally visiting Godhammer bridge in Pillars 2!

Pillars of Eternity 2 is a guarantee. With that said, I don't believe we'll hear about it during a stream. At most, a release date for their Fig campaign.

I hope so too. PoE laid a great foundation but I really hope they put a bigger team with more money on the sequel so it can become a true epic.

Pretty sure it's going to be PoE 2 I think the game did well and with all the lore and the details they put into this game it deserve a sequel .

I really need to take the time to play PoE I played maybe 5-6 hours when it came out (backed the game) then decided to wait for some patches and never got back into it.

I wonder who will be writing it. I know they've been playing it very safe with Tyranny and POE, but hopefully they still have one intensely personal journey left in them.

I doubt that.

Eh, the Shadowrun games and the old Infinity engine games seem to be performing well sales-wise. KOTOR's great. Etc.

I think it's a far better bet than porting it consoles, anyways (cc: Torment/InExile).

It's Pillars of Eternity 2 for certain. Anyone who follows Josh Sawyer would know he's all but directly announced it, assuming it's his project.

Yeah it's been said in all but name a handful of times. I think even heavily hinted where it will be set (the island chain who's name I can't remember?)

I am 1000% in.

Absolutely loved the game and will be happy to support a new one. I think the biggest thing I'd look forward to is what they can do with the knowledge, feedback and confidence they would have from the success of the original Pillars.

It would be amazing if there was a jump in quality similar to that of BG1->BG2. Baldur's Gate was a fantastic game but the sequel is just a huge improvement in every way. Pillars is great but there is a ton of room to explore and expand upon what's already there.

The biggest thing the sequel needs is a better story. They had some great worldbuilding and NPCs, but the story itself was boring and bland, IMO.

No chosen/special main character, please.

Please no. I want Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 from them.

Different teams, different leads.

Yep. He's been teasing it on Twitter and talking about it pretty openly on his blog and during Obsidian streams. I'll be curious to learn when and where this game is occurring in the Pillars world. The image and quotation suggest Eder, at least, is coming back...

I agree with this, but I think we're going to be disappointed. Josh has hinted they want to do a better job at exploring what being a watcher is like.

The hints I've seen so far suggest the Vailian Republics.

So the teaser page seems to imply that Eder is back, that's cool I liked him.

Hopefully the quote is just Eder flavor and this isn't another game revolving around the Saint's War. I feel we know everything we need to know about that conflict, let's head somewhere new.

Agreed. Obviously it all depends on what Obsidian makes of it, but the Dyrwood directly following the events of Pillars is not the setting I'm most eager to explore.

How big have they become? I thought the majority is still working on that Armored Warfare game

Someone else can give the exact number, but my sense is that Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky are working on something that is not Pillars 2, and they are the ones who would be handling a hypothetical Vampire game. Separately, Obsidian's Armored Warfare involvement is winding down, so those employees will either be rotated to other projects or, unfortunately, let go.

Oh man I cannot wait for this, if it is Pillars 2. Even if it isn't Pillars 2, but something else like Tyranny was, that'd be awesome. Obsidian do great stuff, and Pillars of Eternity was fantastic. No reason to think this would be any different...

Please let it be a Kickstarter for Pillars of Eternity 2...

I mean, pretty much every RPG main PC is at least implicitly a special "chosen one" as far as how they function in the world and how people react to them* -- hey let's ask this random dude we just met to solve all our problems! I don't see why it's bad to provide some narrative scaffolding to at least justify in-universe the character's specialness.

The real problem is when the PC's specialness becomes an excuse to stroke the player's ego, like in Skyrim where you can effortlessly become God-Emperor of every guild. But PoE didn't have that problem.

*Maybe the exception to this rule is Age of Decadence? But I haven't played that yet...

I've sadly never backed anything up to this point (though I really wish I had a good number of times).

This will definitely be my first.

Well, I guess I should say that my hesitation about being a watcher again is less about playing a special role in the universe than about the fact that I didn't find the watcher concept interesting--at least as presented in Pillars 1. If they make a compelling pitch for playing as a watcher in Pillars 2, I will waive my objection.
