Cave Story & 1001 Spikes coming to the Nintendo Switch (+ another look at UI)

That doesn't mean a lack of regional accounts. Only thing I'd be sure of is being able to buy foreign game cards.
they said it's 100% region free
also buying foreign game cards, but many games will need updates and DLC,so you must have a t least a way to download the patches from any region just like the Vita.

The dark UI is looking cool.

Interesting that pressing home brings up the main menu (with additional/different options), not a special menu like on Wii U.

I wonder how the change user works, interesting that's associated with a face button too.

And the current user is shown as playing 1001 Spikes.

Could it have some kind of save states and you can switch between games and user quickly?

Probably just mean thats the game he is playing at the moment....??

I paid good money for this Dynex!
You're not getting major third party support on this platform. If you want a steady stream of quality releases, they're coming from indies. The indie support abaolutely will make or break this platform.

I mean, the 3DS didn't have any problem with 3rd party support.

And if indies were what would make or break this platform, then the Switch would fail. A bunch of indies that are on every other platform already are never going to make this system sell. It didn't make the Vita a success, and it won't work here.

Why do switch dev kits look almost exactly like the switch itself? Aren't devkits usually super bulky and look nothing like the final hardware?

If the units at the hands on events were anything to go by, the dev part is an external box that the Switch system plugs into.

Why would there be a need to show a user icon on the game itself? There's already a user icon in the corner showing who is logged in. Why would you do that, if they weren't planning on possibly having other user icons on different apps?

Past systems just said "suspended."

I'd buy Cave Story assuming it's a good version. Never played 1001 Spikes, so I might be inclined to pick that up as well. I like seeing Nicalis support for the Switch right out the gate. Their games are a perfect match for Nintendo platforms.

Not to be "that guy", but it's lede. Also, goddamn I like the simplistic look of that UI!

And not to be "that guy," but it's highly likely that the dark theme (plus black Switch) are a developer thing. They can tell it's a dev console at a glance, even if someone tries to alter the color of the system itself.

This is probably partly why the pic was removed.

I don't see why they wouldn't allow the dark theme on retail consoles tho. Has the same situation happened by the past ?

In case you forget or what? You just paused that game. :))

Who knows, this is Nintendo. Trying to make a phone the party chat

Looks like I'll continue my quest of buying every single version of Cave Story available.
One of the best games ever made.

Cave Story looks like the 3D version. :/

If it turns out to be CS+ and gets a physical release I'll be all over that.
Tbh I'd be into an uprezzed version of that. I'd love to play it on a bigger screen with nicer textures and lighting and such. That'd be an awesome get for the Switch.

I'm curious who would buy these games when they've been out for years already, possibly cheaper in cost and run better.

Dat UI though.

Weird, that's not what my dev Wii U looks like. Mine looks totally normal.

It honestly just looks like an unfinished UI.

Last time I played Cave Story was like ... 8 years ago. Would definitely be down for picking it up again on Switch.

There is a Mii Maker on Nintendo Switch. The software to create Mii characters is now located in System Settings, and no longer resides on the HOME menu as a standalone application. You can also create a Mii character from the Profile screen. Making Mii characters is similar to the method used on past systems.

Mii characters can be used to represent a user profile, but are not required. Users also have the option to choose a profile picture from an included library of Nintendo character images. Mii characters can still be used in games if developers choose to include them.

Mii characters on the Nintendo Switch system are similar to past iterations, but they have some different options. More facial components and colors for hair and skin have been added, while the following attributes have been removed: creator’s name, favorites, birthday, copying, and “public.”

Sometimes. Xbox One, for example, looks exactly like a retail machine. And, that leaked NX kit that nobody believed was real, was real. It was an early revision and the image came from official docs.

But yeah, final NX kits look like retail. It's not un-common (Vita did too, with slight modification on the bottom).
