I'm assuming this title is referencing Luke and the wisdom he's gunna hand down to Rey, but doesn't mean he's gunna die at all. I don't think they're gunna do that.

They're just stressing his importance and I think is also a reference to Luke preparing Rey to be a Jedi (could also be a reference to Finn's destiny).

Assuming this could be plural of course.

Damn I'm pumped that's a great title.

I'll also say I'm really glad he's not going with rise of the/fall of the/darkness route. This feels fresh.

1) Luke is referred to as The Last Jedi in Force Awakens. Maybe it's just how Snoke and the First Order address Luke.

2) Jedi is both singular and plural

3) Rey is still in training and is not a Jedi yet. Luke didn't become a Jedi until ROTJ after all of his training was done

Anywho, while I can see Luke kind of needing to go at some point to further Rey's story. not gonna lie, if Luke dies (or at least, gets gibbed) in VIII, I'm not gonna be a happy camper.

I can't really explain it but why are The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi feel so much different from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, Clone Wars. They feel on par with The Phantom Menace. Maybe it's because they feel singular and not about the whole?

All those titles are about a conflict and boil down to basic summaries of what's happening in the star war
