A gift from a nearly-forgotten memory...
I activated the Digivice, my pulse racing at the long-missed
sensation.
The next moment... I was enveloped in a dazzling white light.
When I woke up, I found myself in a strange world, one with no
entrance or exit.
Through the confusion, an unknown threat struck at me.
My beloved partners from the past came running to the rescue.
Our nearly-broken bonds were mended, and a miracle took place.
The final summer vacation of my high-school years.
The light wrought by that miracle opens the door to a new
adventure... !

Game Manual
I recommend you read through the manual for the game, this is available via Bandai Namco Entertainments website:
https://d1vtv52f4vjbmu.cloudfront.net/manuals/dwno/PS4-DWNO_manual_GBQS_WEB.pdf
It's a good primer for the game.

This is a monster-raising/virtual pet raising action JRPG. This is a Digimon WORLD game, similar to Digimon World 1 & Re Digitized [decode] . This is not a turn based JRPG like the previous Digimon game Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth . The STORY series is known for being a traditional turn based JRPG. This is a widely different type of game. So, if Cyber Sleuth was not you cup of tea , this may very well be!

The best way to explain gameplay is to show you, here's a short trailer Bandai Namco released:
Gameplay Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=19&v=NRqdBm-IbEg

Gameplay consists of Five main categories:

1) Taking care of your Digimon
2) Training & Digivolving your Digimon
3) Battling
4) Recruting Digimon
5) Side-Activities

Next Order switches up the Digimon World formula by allowing you to raise two Digimon at the same time. With World games, the focus is only raising your partners on a more intimate level.
Battling involves shouting commands at your Digimon, to use specific skills.
Taking care of your Digimon
Digimon indicate what they need, so whilst it may look like there's a lot involved, you'll fall into the routine for raising fairly quickly.
xDfvwLj.png

Your many duties include:
- Feeding your Digimon,- food can be received daily from the meat farm – meat is a plant, additional food can be found around the wild or purchased from the shops/farm. You can also fish !
-Taking your Digimon to the toilet, as any living beings your Digimon need to poop, make sure you're carrying portable potty's or you know where the toilets are, otherwise they will poop on the ground.
- Making sure they sleep, you can setup camp fairly early into the game.
- Praising them when they do well. Scolding them when they don't listen – i.e. not eating items outside of battle.
- Not feeding Digimon,them pooping on the ground, getting injured in battle, not letting them sleep , all count as care mistakes, rack these up and you'll find your Digimon unhappy and unable to digivolve into some Digimon,.
-Training your Digimon so they evolve into your desired evolution path.
- Your Digimon in this game unfortunately die of old age, they are re-incarnated into a variety of eggs which you can choose from, each giving you a different baby Digimon & different evolution paths.

Two key stats to keep an eye on:
Mood – This is a measure of how happy your Digimon is. Happier Digimon live longer & gain a boost in offense+defense in battle. This can be increase through numerous ways and is quite easy compared to the discipline gauge. Feeding the digimon its favourite food or simply feeding it meat increase happiness.
Discipline Gauge – This affects how likely the Digimon is to listen to your commands both within battle and outside. The best way to increase this is to scold the Digimon when they misbehave i.e. refusing to eat something or not wanting to sleep/wake up. In addition, certain foods can be used to increase discipline.

5gGmXZ4.png

You can figure out digivolution requirements through gameplay, when asked to praise/scold a digimon for example or via battles.Check how your Digimon is progressing toward evolution by pressing Triangle > Partner > History .

In the first game a Digivolution guide was required, whilst Next Order doesn't require one. You can find digivolution requirements through normal gameplay - i.e. praising/scolding when the game asks you to. However, this becomes harder in mid game and expensive in late game so here's a Digivolution guide if you want to use it:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...giZkr08sV_nmaHY/htmlview?usp=sharing&sle=true
The stages of Digivolution are:

Baby -> In-Training -> Rookie -> Champion -> Ultimate ->Mega -> Ultra

Digivolution has the obvious benefit of strengthening your Digimon, but it also extends its lifespan, the higher the evolutionary stage your Digimon reaches, the longer it will live.

To understand the guide, we'll need to understand the basic stats.
HP- Hit points, the amount of health your Digimon has.
MP- Magic/Mana, your Digimon use this when they use their techniques.
Strength[Offence]– Your Digimon's offensive power, raise this and they'll hit harder.
Stamina[Defence] – Your Digimon defensive power, raising this will mean they won't get hit as hard.
Wisdom: Increases chance of guarding/reduces MP consumed/boosts critical-hit rate as this goes up.
Speed: Increases speed in battle/chances of executing a step dodge as this goes up.
Care mistakes – As explained earlier, any mistake you make in raising your Digimon can lock you out of potential digivoltuions for that Digimons lifecycle – it resets upon death. Conversely some Digimon require care mistakes.

Together with weight, controlling these variables usually allows you to digivolve the Digimon into the Digimon you want it to Digivolve into.

n8u9hix.png

The battle system of the Digimon World games is truly unique , Next Order changes a lot of the core mechanics but the base is still the same.
Whilst running around the overworld you will see Digimon running around, running into them or interacting with them will result in a battle , some Digimon will charge at you. Your role as the tamer, is to issue commands using the ring interface. Certain commands such as using a specific technique require Order points which build up as the battle continues. You can tell a Digimon to attack while another defends(tanks) or you can issue the same command to both. Each Digimon also has their own unique attack/move which deals a larger amount of damage. Techniques are shared with all Digimon, these aren't unique , but a Fire Digimon can only usually learn Fire techniques & non-elemental techniques such as buffs or physical attack techniques. Whilst this is all going on, you also need to keep an eye on both Digimons HP & MP and feed them items when they're getting low. Defeat in battle means a lowered lifespan for the Digimon.
The use of two Digimon introduces a new system. ExE evolution which allows you to temporarily combine/DNA digivolve your Digimon into one stronger Digimon, this can be triggered once a day.
Recruiting Digimon
This is the objective of the game, to help rebuild the hub city Floatia , you need to recruit Digimon. Some will require you to complete some tasks for them. Others will be weary and attack you, beating them will help them see sense and they'll normally join the city afterwards . Each recruited Digimon improves the city , whether its opening up new buildings or improving existing infrastructure or purely cosmetic such as building statues.

Side-Activities

There's also a number of sidemissions & activities you can carry out. Here are a few:
-Collect Digimon cards - Buy packs - can be traded for useful items, show some nice artwork.
- Tend to the fields, you can plant seeds you obtain in the fields in Floatia , these net you digi-vegetables etc. Some vegetables when fed give your Digimon special effects.
-Stock market - It's not that hard to grasp, you buy/obtain items, sell when prices are high, they're "constantly varying" and buy when prices are low.
- Fishing - there's fishing spots throughout the open world, different spots get you different fish. Some fish when fed give your Digimon special effects.
-Compete against other NPC Digimon at the Colliseum to earn unique prizes.
- The Dimensional box inside Jijimons house can be used to battle other players.
- The Museum , check out past videos & cards you've collected.
& many more but these are the main ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where's the Vita version?

The Vita version was not localised. The PS4 version is improved largely, entire areas have been reworked. Unfortunately the Vita wouldn't be able to run the game well with all these improvements, it had framedrops with just the standard game. For a video comparison see here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbRYMjTCOdQ

What Digimon can I raise in the game?
http://wikimon.net/Digimon_World_-next_0rder-

Normal Mode or Easy Mode?

The hard mode was incorporated into Normal mode and so I'd only recommend it if you want a challenge & have played the original game. Digivolution requirements are different in the new Normal mode, there's no digivolution guide for normal mode at the moment, digivolution requirements can be found through playing the game. Difficulty can be changed through Punimon found in Jijimons house.

So is this Cyber Sleuth 2?
No, Cyber Sleuth was a Digimon Story game (traditional story driven RPG with turn based combat). Next Order is a Digimon World game, with a completely different type of battle system and game play. Another game like Cyber Sleuth will likely happen in the future, but it's best to think of these as two different series.

Still, fans of Cyber Sleuth will probably be happy to know that Mirei will return in this game, and that Rina will be available as part of a DLC story coming later.

Why are so many Digimon from Cyber Sleuth not in this? And why are there so many recolors?
One important thing to remember is that being a Digimon World game, they need a much higher number of animations for each Digimon compared to Cyber Sleuth, needing various animations for being praised, scolded, acting defiantly, wandering around (rather than just following the player in a line), being tired, etc. So while the Cyber Sleuth models could help, they still needed to create a lot of new animations for each Digimon.

Given that, it's perhaps understandable (if still unfortunate) that some Digimon were left on the cutting room floor, and it's also understandable why there are more recolors included compared to Cyber Sleuth. Maybe if we're lucky there will be an enhanced edition with more Digimon added (as Re:Digitize got with Decode), or additional Digimon will be added post-launch like with Cyber Sleuth. Or both.

This game seems lame. Why isn't a turn based RPG?
Digimon World is sort of a peculiar game, and this isn't an unusual reaction to have, but I think the game is really worth giving a shot to. While it's a very unique game, this creates a really different playing experience, and you may find that you wind up really enjoying the style of game even if you didn't think you would. There's really nothing else quite like Digimon World out there, and there are few feelings like having raised a really strong partner in it.

I've only played the beginning chapters of the Japanese game before writing this, so I intend to add onto it as I play.

Backstory - You don't need to know this, but I wrote it up and it may help you with the background of the universe this is set in.

This is a DIRECT sequel to the first Digimon World game on the PS1 in which you took control of a yellow coated,grey hatted protagonist. You don't need to read all of this, but if you want the main plot points of the two games which precede this one here they are.

Returning home the protagonist finds a note from his mum telling she'll be late. The protagonist hears a noise coming from the Digimon V-pet coming from his room. He investigates and is teleported to the Digital world. He's greeted by Jijimon (Jiji = Grandpa/Old Male/Elder in Japanese) and is surrounded by baby and in-training Digimon & what's left of File City. Jijimon explains the protagonist has been summoned to help fight a terrible evil which has caused Digimon to turn feral & forget who they were/are.
Helping rebuild File City which had been stripped down bare due to its residents turning feral/forgetting who they are. Throughout the game you help build up the town, each diigmon recruited has a job which helps rebuild the town in some way. Recruiting Digimon normally involves fighting them – because they're feral etc or helping them out in some way if they're good by nature.

The game comes to an end at the final showdown between the protagonist and Analogman , the mastermind who caused the chaos atop Mt.Infinity – Conveniently located next to File City. Analogman is a computer genius & hacker who's goal was to ”rule the Net World" & sees Digimon as tools/expendable. After fighting 3 brainwashed minion Digimon you confront Analogman in the upper core of Mount Infinity in the ”Last Room" . He brings out Machinedramon to test if Digimon who are ”friends" or ”slaves" are better.The player defeats Machinedramon & offers Analogman a way out if he asks forgiveness. Analogman responds by ignoring the protagonist, ‘realising' he shouldn't have ‘trusted' the Digimon and he had to do it himself. When confronted he explains he's going to blow the island up and escape to another world. He teleports into a freaky looking screen which shows his gloating face & launches the programme. The programme goes haywire due to the efforts of somebody unkown[referred to as ???] who tells you ”it's alright".You get connected with your Digimon friends , Jijimon sends power to you,Analogman screams in agony, the screen goes blank. Neither the protagonist nor Jijimon know what happened. The protagonist realises the base is about to blow up somehow. Airdramon who can open up portals(and who you meet just before mount infinity) comes to the rescue and whisks you out. With your job done and a farewell you're sent back to the human world. IF you load your save you see an additional animated scene. Mamemon pops out of your digivice to tell you Analogman is back.
You investigate and find back dimension which can be in 3 places around the digital world. Back dimension looks similar to the interior of mouint infinity, making your way through back dimension you see ‘Analogman' who disappears into thin air , leaving a stronger Machinedramon to fight you. The Machinedramon ends up being a corrupted version of another digimon which changes depending on which of the three areas you find the back dimension.

Analogman does make a re-appearance in Digimon Digital Card Battle which is a mish mash of characters from the Anime and Digimon World 1 – so it isn't exactly canon. Nonetheless the Analogman part may still be. Analogman, referred to as ‘A' appears and takes control of the final evil digimon in the game, VenomMyotismon – who has a Machinedramon as his lacky . He reveals his physical body has perished but his consciousness/soul survived & challenges the player to a match in which he cheats since he's a 1337 hacker by summoning an Apocalymon card(the final bad guy in the first season of Digimon) right at the start of the card game and shuffling your deck (I forget what exactly it was but it's not important) . After defeating him the security system which takes the form of Rosemon captures him and sends him into the Deep parts of the net.
TL;DR - So yeah the ending of DW1 is weird or badly translated & Digimon card battle doesn't have much of actual story, basically the protagonist from the first game,Machinedramon and Analogman have a history.

Starter Tips:

1)I recommend starting on Easy, even if you have played DW1, I can play DW1 wiuth my eyes closed but the digivolution requirements for Normal mode through me off, it's essentially the hard mode that was touted, Easy is the new normal.
2) Make sure you collect your daily items from Koromon in Jijimons house & meat from Tanemons farm.
3) Digivoltion requirements can be earned through praising/scolding your Digimon when the game gives you the option to, you unlock random information each time. These can be checked through Triangle > Partner > History . A easy way to farm these is to train once, leave the training room , you'll get an interaction screen around 30-50% of the time.
4) The requirements for Anime favourites such as Agumon (Normal/Yellow) are difficult to achieve on your first try, their evolutions are only get more difficult.
5) Make sure you train your digimon after they hit rookie, power levels when starting off are weird, lvl 1 rookie is not = lvl 1 champion , some power levels are all over the place.
6) In the first area outside the city make sure you recruit Palmon, she ups your meat production to 8 pieces. Tentomon is also in this area,he opens a shop which sells recovery items.
7) Escape should be used as a last resort, it heavily impacts your Digimons relationship with each other , which is difficult to recover.

I'm still on the fence about this one. I don't have the fondest memories of raising Digimon only to get Numemon back to back.

Nice OP, OP.

Picking up my pre-ordered next week when I'm back in the country. Doubt I will have time to play it before the end of the year but I just wanna support the series after the excellent Cyber Sleuth!

After completing the Vita version months back. I am super hyped for the enhanced PS4 port.

Still salty that the digital preorders come with a theme while the physical doesn't.

The game is out in AU since its 27/01 which is why I posted this up, I'm patiently waiting for my copy to be delivered tomorrow, DW1 is one of my personal GOAT's. This OT was put together in less than 24 hours so if you notice any mistakes or have any improvements please post them!

I'm still on the fence about this one. I don't have the fondest memories of raising Digimon only to get Numemon back to back.

This one is much more user friendly, you don't even need a digivolution guide, which was a MUST for the original.

So OP does high discpline still cause your digimon to die of an early age like in dw1?

Yup, from what I've read & understood.

Yup. EU doesn't even have a digital pre-order still =< .

GetDigitized, what can you tell me about the story, is it compelling compared to cyber sleuth? coz I thought that had a great story
up until that suck-balls ending

I can't believe it has been almost a year since CS.

I wonder if Stuart444 will buy it day one. He was so active in CS's thread.

too bad this month is packed and I can't buy another game :/

The only thing that I don't really like is having two Digimon at the same time. I loved Digimon World, but couldn't play Re:Digitize since my PSP died a couple weeks before they completed the English patch.

Problem is that I don't think I'll be able to find it easily...

I spoiled myself on story so I can tell you some bits:
The game’s story is very basic. Unless character interactions are good/funny, which I’m not sure about, this might not be super exciting thrilling story. But hey, DW1 didn’t have any big story either soooo… You should play this for gameplay.

The biggest thing of controversy is the villains motivation which I wont spoil, but apparently it is incredibly stupid. I don’t personally hate it that much but I can see it being controversial for its stupidity.

Considering your hate for Cyber Sleuth ending, no, this game wont have same ending event has Cyber Sleuth.
Anyways, excited for this game, and ready for as a true fan to nitpick about a lot of small details. Interestingly I have grown used to this games roster. Although they removed some essentials for me, this game has decent roster. Trying to pick this up tomorrow.

I only played the beginning but...
From what I read as i played , they have some interesting stuff going on, especially if you've played teh first game & are nostalgic about it like me.

The people in the import thread seemed to enjoy it though.

It's better to emulate anyways.

He hasn't been active in the Digimon OT either for a couple of months.

Yeah, this game was released at the dumbest time.

Day one, I'll be in this thread too much. Hoping to see if any other Digimon got their name changed or if it was exclusive to omnimon/omegamon.

I really wanna support this game so we get more Digimon games in the west. But I got so many damn games right now to play. Maybe I should buy it and have it on hold.

Does anyone elses amazon preorder not have a delivery date yet?

Oh Dual-audio nice! This version very improved, good changes and many additions added, sweet gonna buy it really soon

I won't be able to play for another couplish weeks, but I'm excited.

What eggs are everyone going to start with? I wanted to try to get Lopmon and Terriermon for twinsies fun, but now I kind of just want to pick two at random and see where it goes.

For reference, here are the starter eggs you can choose from:

Botamon -> Koromon
Punimon -> Tsunomon
Poyomon -> Tokomon
YukimiBotamon -> Nyaromon
Pabumon -> Motimon
Jyarimon -> Gigimon
Zerimon -> Gummymon
Conomon -> Kokomon
Yuramon -> Tanemon
Pitchmon -> Pukamon

Does anyone elses amazon preorder not have a delivery date yet?

I just checked my order (UK here) and it seems that there is no delivery date because they are out of stock. I guess they didn't get enough copies to fulfil the preorders. I would cancel it but I used the £10 off voucher on it. :(

Can't wait to pick it up today after work! Replayed Digimon 1 about 2 years ago now and 100% it. Great experience for a fantastic game that I have a lot of nostalgia for.

For those who have played this: How is the difficulty compared to DW1? I always found that until late game, DW1 was a pretty challenging game which I really liked. Although some may call it more cheap than challenging. Does having 2 Digimon make it way easier?

Bought it today, but got question immediately.

There was no Hard Mode avaible at start, only Normal and Easy.

Did they rename the new Hard Mode as Normal? Or do I have to unlock that later?

From what I read on the Vita version:

You can now choose a “Hard Mode” that makes enemies even stronger than normal. To switch to hard mode, speak to Punimon in Jijimon’s house. To turn it off, talk to Punimon again.

Think I will turn this on myself for a more "old school" experience. DW1 was hard as nails until a good few hours in or until you knew the game well enough to power grind.

I really enjoyed Cyber Sleuth but since I'm more of a fan of story-driven games the Digimon World line doesn't interest me quite as much

I would of bought this but got Yakuza 0 right now and Nier in march. Will consider this in between if I beat yakuza fast enough or it's a summer game after May so I can play persona and zelda.

so excited! i bought cyber sleuth but wasn't really a huge fan of it. but i've been waiting for a new digimon world for so long. i loved the original on the PS1 and only played a bit of re digitize on psp. having this on PS4 will be perfect.

Ok yeah, then they renamed it. I already talked with Punimon who talked about difficulty switching.

So normal mode in this game is updated hard mode.

BTW It affects digivolution requirements for everything. Nobody is getting Agumon at start with them insane requirements lol.

enjoy the game folks, hope you enjoy it.....but sadly I do not like the non turn based mechanics of the original digimon world so sadly I will not be picking this up.

Problem is I don't know many who grabbed Cyber Sleuth who are grabbing this. Hopefully it sells enough to at least justify more localizations.

Man I remember when Cyber Sleuth came out, people were singing it's praises!

This game seems to have a pretty lacklustre reception... why the change?

Turn based making all the difference?

Different companies with different directions; Cyber Sleuth was a traditional RPG, and this is an instalment in the Digimon World series which were about raising your AI partner.

Which is weird by comparison, so it's understandable if people aren't as gung-ho to jump in.

Cyber Sleuth was also, arguably, a bump in production value. The models looked awesome then, and the shift towards a surreal cyber world and Shin Megami Tensei vibes rubbed people the right way.

Cyber Sleuth was a lot more well-received in Japan. The PS4 version could solve the problems people had with Next Order over there, but we don't know yet.

I also imagine things like the initial announcement being unclear about a Vita version, the less impressive visuals, and, yeah, the different game play turned people off.

If you wait for reviews to buy this, just skip it, I bet it wont review well at all. Digimon world is more about the gameplay (raising the digimon) than the story.

Oh man , Digivolution is challenging in the new normal mode. Didn't get the champions I wanted on the first run lol . Seems the digivolution guide is out of date , I'll remove it from the OP.

From what I read on the Vita version:

Think I will turn this on myself for a more "old school" experience. DW1 was hard as nails until a good few hours in or until you knew the game well enough to power grind.

Normal modes grind is worse than DW1's , you have to grind like you would for an ultimate in DW1 for a champion.

Man I remember when Cyber Sleuth came out, people were singing it's praises!

This game seems to have a pretty lacklustre reception... why the change?

Turn based making all the difference?

Cyber Sleuth was much easier to jump into since it was a standard JRPG, you don't need to really learn anything new to jump into it, there's not really any games lik the Digimon World series so people will find it harder to jump into
