Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

With all these previews, are there any specific ones running on the original PS4? All the things I've seen so far look like they're from the Pro.

Nope, they are mostly PS4 Original.
Those on Pro last two minutes and are probable called (Sony only allowed media to take 2 minutes of footage from PS4 Pro).

I don't think minigames work with the setting. It's not like GTA where you can go bowling or gambling.

What would Aloy do? Mount races? Card games?

It still looks like there's plenty to do though - activities that take advantage of the core gameplay like trials and side quests.

Do we know how prevalent/sophisticated the dialogue system will be? I've seen videos of Aloy both speaking on her own and allowing the player to pick responses. Will there be a conscious split between the two?

Like, sidequests will allow for more roleplay responses while main missions will be more automated.

I'm just wondering the extent to which I can mold Aloy's character.

For dino sake...Sigh all the long video previews are ps4, ps4 pro footage was only allowed to be filmed in very short instances

Thank you! I haven't kept up to date so much with this game because I'm trying not to spoil it for myself. Great news, even more hyped. Sorry if its been asked a million times already.

Its not like a Paragon or Renegade type situation like ME. For ex.

In some random quest/thing the kids can throw rocks at you , now you have three options like : scold the kids , hit them back (i think this is wrong) or don't do anything. it will not shape up to anything but still you have some choices to make your own.

Also earlier in the game you have big decision to make (not sure how big) which will change something how the game will played out or some mission will played out, so yeah there is some depth to it.

Colosseum. Co-op arena base hunting DLC.

I guess it is a testament to GG. The game looks too good!

Yep, agreed. It would only feel contrived.

All they need is for the core material to be good. That's it. People know they don't want the bloat. It is just the fact that a dev is telling them something won't be in the game. I find that causes conflict by default.

How are those mini games? I find that's like saying cutting off limbs in Dead Space or shooting off helmets in Killzone to be mini-games
Well hunter trails atleast to me because of the time limit and the certain tasks you have to do.

But really they cant do everything in one game guys.

Watching the PS Pro trailer with the tallnecks, I like that you have to keep up with them and then reach higher ground to climb on. They're definitely inspired by Ubisoft towers though, but more involved gameplay-wise. Do we know if they can be aggressive or if other machines interact with them? I did notice that they seem to unleash am EMP blast after being overridden, so that implies they have a greater gameplay use than just walking towers

They aren't hostile but they have no qualms with trampling you if you don't get out of their way. I don't know whether other machines can interact with them.

First post here. I'm so excited for this!

Welcome!

Yeah I'm happy to preorder this. Gameplay is all over the internet and I know exactly what I'm getting into, and it looks right up my alley. Barring any disastrous control issues (which I highly doubt) I think I'm really going to enjoy this.

Thank you! I'm interested to see what cauldrons are like!

Welcome and good timing! I joined back during the lead-up to The Last of Us; it's great to be able to join in the conversation for a game you're really excited for

I sadly can't get Horizon Zero Dawn due to the Switch launch but i wil get it later i did like the previews and gameplay seen so far. I got uncharted 4 also way later so i can manage. Since i am a student i need to budget a bit with gaming so i try not to buy more then a handfull of full priced games at launch a year and get the rest cheaper later.

Wait...

I pre-date a mod? Wow, what is this feeling. I feel special. 😎

Thank God Nioh is next week. Should make the wait for Horizon easier and it's really just around the corner.

Is there overworld music?

Edit: I'm also interested in knowing what people generally think of the music so far. I haven't watched any of the videos btw.

I think that emp blast can stun or damage other machines.

Lol, I joined right before Fallout 4. I was so mad I didn't even make my first post until months later

As much as I love the graphics and presentation, I can't seem to get hyped over this game.

It looks like a typical ubisoft open world game. Even the latest Tomb Raider was ruined by it.

But I'm keeping my eyes on it.

EZ Allies preview talked about collecting stuff as being a negative... is this an open world ubi-style collect-a-thon?

No. There is some cool stuff you find that fleshes out the world and characters. It's more Witcher than Far Cry. The Guardian preview goes more in-depth about this.

he said "fair warning theres a lot of stuff to collect in this game so for people who don't like that sort of thing it might not be for u, I myself love to collect I didn't get off my horse every 5 seconds but its super easy and quick to grab stuff"

Reading that preview now and this sounds more nuanced than I was expecting for a game like this
...an early side quest has Aloy dealing with a man who has mental health problems and you'll have to decide what happens to him and the way you handle the situation.
Guerrilla assures us that these moments will have consequences to the point that characters live or die by your choices – and we're certainly given the impression that we have some control over the kind of heroine Aloy becomes.

Also like the sound of this, going back to not having minigames
This an open world game with a difference, though, eschewing the familiar tactic of overpopulating the map with features and challenges in favour of wide open spaces full of natural beauty and its inhabitants
I was debating whether to preorder or not, and I think that last line sold me. That's exactly what I wish more open world games did.

Collecting stuff as in crafting materials (which doesn't require you to actually go out of your way for much), not like AC Feather collecting etc.

I mean, the guy literally refers to crafting specifically.

Is there like, some Breitbart-esque gaming outlet specifically taking stuff from the previews out of context and spreading it about on twitter or something? It's the only reasoning I can think of for the sheer amount of misinformation regarding the game.

The overarching fear is that this will turn out to be a carbon copy Ubisoft game. So, even the slightest connection to Ubisoft games and it is off to the races.

Take the first time we saw the Longneck, for example. I think that was what put the whole thing into overdrive lol.

what is everyones metacritic prediction for this
~88.

91 is the ceiling.

I'm thinking 85-90

although to be honest, I wouldn't be suprised if it doesn't even reach the level of Nioh (87)

Nioh has an All Time Great combat system that is able to sustain itself throughout the whole game

Horizon seems to have a great combat system, judging from the previews but it remains to be seen if it can sustain the whole game

I did ask a couple of days ago and that it hadn't been confirmed yet but I'm ask again incase that's changed. Has there been confirmation wither way about entities like Tallnecks and whether you attack them, or vice versa?

I do get the feeling that it's not going to happen but it will seem strange if they're complete completely invulnerable.
