Kingdom Hearts Funko Pops officially announced, no Sora

They have Chip and Dale from Kingdom Hearts, but none of the main characters? Sure, they clearly have their priorities set straight :D why even call it a Kingdom Hearts set if it's just going to be traditional Disney characters...

Funkos always felt very scatter shot to me. It's like, make one of every pop culture thing in existence and a fan somewhere will probably pick it up.

i have all four titanfall 2 pops, they're pretty sweet too

These ones don't have the "iconic" goofy face and are 10 times better as a result.

It's weird how angry it makes some people that other people like a toy that they don't.

Funko Pops are physically horrendous to look at. They are designed by morons who clearly have no understanding of how to make something cute. They take characters and then put the exact same dumb emotionless beady eyes on all of them.

And then stores stock literally WALLS of them. Entire walls of those fucking things. You go into a store and then you're subjected to a full arsenal of that appalling trash.

I can't wait for that company to go out of business. I refuse to believe that enough people buy that shit to make them profitable.

Because its still the designs from Kingdom Hearts; it's not like Goofy has been a shield wielding knight or Donald a wizard in much else. Traditional Disney seems to be one of the biggest brands for Funko- there's a huge audience of people who are happy to buy up anything Disney, and that audience may not care as much about a Sora, or a Roxas, or Aqua, or whatever else. Plus, there's probably some contractual loop holes about Square controlling some of the merchandise for those characters because they have their own internal toyline.

A shame there are none of the KH-original characters, the ones I'd actually want cheap figurines of. Makes me wonder what exactly is tying up the rights to Sora and co, between things like this and World of Final Fantasy muting Sora in the English release.

I'm convinced that everyone who says they like and want Funko Pops is being ironic.

I'm convinced that everyone who bags on them is trying to be edgy and cool. All these pop threads with truly unique people going "i just can't understand why in the world anyone would ever like this junk" makes me cringe.

Let it go people, damn. You're allowed to not like things, you don't have to prophesize to the world.

This is getting incredibly childish.

You can refuse to believe that all you want but it doesn't change the fact that it's false.

I mean, there's a Funko OT here on GAF, a very active Reddit, a separate forum dedicated to them, etc. if you would like to see for yourself.

But what makes them continue to be successful is that it had broad appeal. It's not just collectors, it's regular casual people who think Step Brothers is a funny movie and want to get the two Pops to put on their desk at work. Stuff like that.

But I guess you could just hope people who work at a toy company lose their jobs because you don't think the toys are cute?

im not exaggerating, I own over 300 pop figures. I think these look pretty good...

also, its probably as simple as they couldnt get the rights to Sora. Funko has never made anything square enix before. But they pump out disney characters like crazy

Donald and Pete look decent cause they have features that make those eyes work. Goofy is the worst and Mickey is bad. C&D are okay.

You did exactly what I said made my eyes roll.

No toy "only" costs $50, especially if you're a collector. That is expensive for a tiny plastic toy.

This is why your argument falls apart. Pop collectors don't just buy a single Pop and call it a day. Then there's chase figures, convention exclusives, retailer exclusives, etc.

Just admit you prefer quantity over quality.

I got excited for a minute thinking Final Fantasy might be next, but looks like none of the KH Pops are Square Enix characters so that's probably still not gonna happen.

The only he linked would be considered a deluxe nendoroid set.

The cheap basic ones start at $20 and are still million times better than funko pops. They are posable and you can interchange the parts with other nendos. A collector wouldn't really worry about price though.

I mean look at the nendo Mickey and it was $30 when it came out.

I mean everyone shits on Call of Duty and it still sells millions every year lol.

My argument doesn't fall apart because a small segment of people buy hundreds of them.

I think you understand that isn't the norm and that the vast majority of people who buy them -- or even collect them -- don't actually own freaking 300 of them. Come on.

My point is that it's FAR easier to collect Pops than something like Nendoroids. That doesn't mean "quantity over quality." I personally prefer Pops over Nendoroids.

Many people like the style of Pops. They wouldn't continue to have such a following and be popular with casual purchasers otherwise.

Childish. Stop trying to be "that" guy.

Well this just comes down to an opinion. That anime girl you just linked to and called a "million times better" looks ugly as hell to me. I can't stand the face.

There are some that I like. The Link one is great but of course, that isn't $20.

Some of you also aren't taking the licenses into consideration. How many Marvel or DC Nendoroids are there? Supernatural? Overwatch? Resident Evil? NFL? Etc.

Pops have a much much much wider variety to choose from as well.

Edit: I really don't want this to be an argument about what is "better." That's simply an opinion. The only issue I've had is people who clearly don't like Funko products in general coming in to "wonder" why other people like something they don't.

It's like Microsoft announcing Halo 6 and going into the thread to say, "Halo games are so bad. I can't believe anyone buys them."

Pop hate is so unwarranted. No need to wish for people to lose and their jobs and go out of business because you don't like a toy. They're harmless.

Man, i just don't get this. They're cute little designs and they're inexpensive. And they cover every possible type of license so there's always something for someone.

It's pretty understandable why they're so popular I think.

But they look soulless and clog up shelve space at Gamestop! We have to hate them, the internet told me so!

One of the biggest reasons I like pops are how they have so many licenses. I have a few Nendoroids and Figmas, but I don't see Nendos of Ren & Stimpy, Animaniacs, or Brak and Zorak. So I never understood the argument that I should just buy Nendos or Figmas.

I think the pops that aren't human look the best.

I really didn't think I needed to explain that obviously not every Pop collector has hundreds of Pops. That's why I included the bolded line. The point is that nobody that calls themselves a Pop collector buys only 1 and calls it a day. If you have money for 5 Pops then you have money for a $50 toy. If you choose to buy Pops instead because you like them, or that they're readily available at most retail outlets, then use that argument. But people often cite the fact that they're cheap as a plus for collecting them, when that clearly is irrelevant when you factor in the number of Pops that the average Pop collector buys.

You're absolutely right about this though. My apologies! Like what you like, and have fun, that's what collecting toys should be all about.

You can change the face on nendoroids. There are 100s to chose from. I can put Link's face on the anime girl if I wanted to lol.

All nendoroids are from licenses shows/movies. They do have Marvel, DC, Resident Evil, Star Wars, Uncharted, Frozen, etc.

Pops have a much wider variety due to how cheap they are to make.

I do think the non human pops look better but the basic design of them are so ugly (especially the eyes).

Good looking Funko Pop figures are pretty rare. We have a Sylvanas one that looks pretty decent though.

Nendoroids will win once they get wider licenses tbh.

Nendoroids will likely never reach the type of licensing success that Funko has. That's not a knock on them, they're just a niche product.

I love pops, but this one is horrifyingly bad.

Oh yeah, some of the older Pops were rough, especially classic Disney characters.

They've improved the detail and quality a great deal over the years.
