Just watched the premiere. Really enjoy having this back! It is up on Comcast OnDemand for those looking to check it out early. Looks like it is on the Starz site too.

Yes! I can watch this while I eat breakfast. Sunday scheduling sucks but I'm glad they put it on the app early.

Episode 1 thoughts

- "...present company included..." Haha
- The hair and makeup in this show is stellar
- I love how competent both sides of this fight are.
- Silver is a Pirate King. We One Piece now.
- One of my favorite things about this show is how it goes into these men not really being all they claim. Flint, and now Silver, have both used infamy as a sword & shield. Flint did it to maintain control of his crew, Silver is being used as poster boy for the cause.
- Billy is going to trip over his own cock. He's talking BIG.
- There is so much truth in Anne's bluntness. Mic drop moment

A+ premiere. This show always amazes me with its production values. I don't know how they can afford these set pieces, and I don't care. It looks great.

Pretty solid episode. I should have read a recap or something first though, because I forgot almost everything that happened last season and the "Previously On..." section didn't do a very good job of catching me up.

As a result of that, I was sort of disoriented for a good chunk of the episode, but at least the action beats were easy to follow. :D

Solid opening episode, I loved Silver swimming back up, it started stressing me out lol. I managed to get some friends into this show. They almost caught up in a couple of weeks lol

First episode of this show is always a plot set upper, this one had a lot ot action in the first 15 minutes which was an awesome surprise.

I like that this show has so many gray characters, on both sides

Damn, that was intense. Have I mentioned how much I love this show? Have I mentioned how much I adore Ray Stevenson as Blackbeard?

I stopped watching back in season 2 or 3 when they decided that every female had to be a lesbian. The pandering felt too obvious. Does that get better, or will I be rolling my eyes through the rest of the series?

Who was the guy who found Silver at the end of the episode? Do we know him, or is he a new character. Everyone grew beards between seasons and it is really throwing me off!

I believe it was the guy that cut off the ear earlier in the episode. That character wasn't a very smooth introduction, the "you might not remember me, but I've been here the whole time" intro was really odd.

He's Israel Hands, a character from Treasure Island (
an evil bastard and one of Silver's loyal men
). He's played by Irish actor David Wilmot.

Interestingly, Israel Hands was also the name of one of Blackbeard's real-life men, so I wonder if they'll play that angle somehow in the show.

Edit: He's a new character this season. Entertainment Weekly have a bit of info on him here.

Just finished watching the premier as I had to do some work last night.

Best show on TV remains best show on TV. First 15 minutes were fucking intense. Great trap and then the shit is just flying all over the place. Loved it!

I was surprised by the amount of action right off the bat. The bits with Silver trying to avoid drowning were particularly good.

I discovered this show a few months back and binged season 1 and 2. Loved season 1 but season 2 was kind of ridiculous. Not sure I'm in the minority on this, but was season 3 received well by Gaf?

Most people were a little cold on S1 until the end and loved S2/S3.

I know that's how I was. It felt like another weird cable genre show, ala Da Vinci's Demons. Then at the end of season 1 the pirate politics started clicking. The season 2 premiere was a totally different, and much better show.

My feelings exactly. I actually stopped watching after the first episode when it originally premiered because I decided the show wasn't for me, and then when the full season had aired I caught up with it. One of the best TV-related decisions I've made.

Season 3 was great imo. Season 2 also.

S1 was the weakest for me. I didn't dislike it, but 2 and 3 is when it got amazing.

Everyone was so extra in this episode, biggest offenders being:
- Israel Hands killing that guy & attributing it to Silver just to raise the bounty
- Blackbeard sending a ship full of hung me *wink* into the bay
- Billy Bones finally going after Flint's neck

I appreciate what this show is doing with Blackbeard. Instead of being a boilerplate badass, they've given him a contemplative and sensitive nature in private. Really beefs up the character, glad the writers and Stevens are making him something more than just a ruthless pirate.
Oh, and Israel Hands is the definition of WildCardBitches.gif. He just pops off.

Good episode. Setup heavy but some nice payoffs sprinkled throughout.

It's so hard for me to watch this show and not see black flag. That
plantation raid
from this week isn't helping

Same thought popped into my head. Got major deja vu from that scene.
