I've done a bit of testing and it seems like the framerate in menus is not capped in Action mode on the Pro resulting in what feels like dangerously high heat levels. High enough in fact to warp the plastic on mine a bit. Nothing too serious mind you just a bit of an indent in the plastic; difficult to see but easy to feel when running your hand over the surface. Movie mode however does not seem to have an uncapped framerate in menus and as a result my Pro feels relatively cool to the touch after my sessions playing in that mode.
Before anyone asks yes I cleaned out the vents on my pro just ot be certain dust/obstruction was not an issue and I have is in an open air hutch to promote best possible airflow. I noticed the warped plastic after I had left the game running for an hour or so on a menu while I went out to eat lunch. Further testing confirmed the menus are a strain point for the HW in Action mode but seemingly no increase to fan noise or heat in Movie mode.
So, I would encourage fellow pro owners to, for the time being, use movie mode until a patch is released that caps menu framerates to reduce the heat strain on the HW. Here's hoping we see a patch relatively soon.
Edit: for those who asked here's the best picture I could take to try and highlight the minor warping of the plastic
Update: Digital Foundry's Dark10x has chimed in to inform that the framerate is indeed locked on menus so that's not the reason my fan speed spiked up whenever in them. So great news for everyone playing Nioh.
As suggested I'm going to look into replacing my Pro. However, with so many others reporting similar issues in certain menus it seems like my HW isn't the only culprit here. Clearly something is amiss that is stressing the HW in certain menus. Perhaps my situation was exacerbated by HW faults but my HW is clearly not the only thing at fault here.

That's extremely bizarre and seems impossible to me simply because Nioh leaves vertical sync engaged at all times. For this to be an issue, the menus would have to operate with v-sync disabled which WOULD cause the frame-rate to jump sky high. As it stands, however, this isn't the case - v-sync is always engaged so the frame-rate should never exceed 60 frames per second.
When this has happened on the PC, it was always an issue in cases where users disabled v-sync.
If you're running into heat issues with the system, it's not likely tied to the menu or anything specific like that. It seems more like a general system fault to me.
