Whilst they would be great to have I don't really care about the lack of many non-game features (except for the internet browser, the Wii U's internet browser was amazing), the speed and responsiveness of the UI more than makes up for it.

I'm so glad the Dark Theme is there Day One without needing the eShop. I likely won't be able to connect my Switch to the internet for a while so I wouldn't be able to download anything like that.

Yes, but none of them have meaningless trophies in place of the type of rewards you want.

I agree with you, I prefer those rewards as well. But it's not like there's a choice between trophies and in game rewards and you can only have one.

There are games that have trophies that tie to in game achievements and unlockables. It's not an either/or thing. Some game designers choose to offload achievements to the global notification system rather than bother with creating additional content to unlock because they believe that it's good enough.

Then you have people like Nicalis, that said specifically that they build achievements into their games. Nintendo builds achievements and unlockables into their games.

Then you have games like FE:H which have missions set up for completing different parts of the story, for which you get mynintendo coins, and at the same time you get items and rewards in game for completing things. It's a nice touch.

One thing I've noticed about mynintendo missions, too, is that you don't necessarily need it to be part of the UI, because as with Miitomo and FE:H it's part of the software, and the software logs into mynintendo to update it on mission progress.

Duuude, you're more than welcome to not participate in Switch threads. If your post history is to be trusted, you really don't seem to enjoy it.

Let me make my basic point then. I was very excited for the Switch, then the reveal disappointed the hell out of me, and the reaction from the hardcore faithful now seems to be to whitewash every negative detail and praise like it's the second coming every minor factoid revealed about it. The UI looks fine, but "phenomenal"? Wtf?

If you're someone who wants to love Nintendo again, seeing the hardcore fans act this way doesn't give you much hope for the future.

Actually, if it wasn't for the people who try to downplay the achievements the discussion would have been long dead and we would talk about the gorgeous dark theme instead. It was exactly one user who said it was a deal breaker for him.

3 actually - but lots of negativity:

'So for real no friends list or achievements. =( '

'No achievements then, I knew it. '

'So no achievement?

Glad I didn't preorder the system. Horizon it is then.'

Why is their no achievements NINTENDO!!!! C'mon please!

It is pretty dn lame Nintendo still hasn't gotten achievements. Every other platform has them, from consoles, to Steam, to Battle.net

Won't prevent me from getting a Switch bit it's certainly disappointing

These excuses don't work in 2017. Even iPhones have achievements ffs

The achievements should be IN the game

As someone with a pre-order who is wavering on whether to keep it, no achievements is a huge negative to me

This is how I feel. I was planning on purchasing 3rd party games that run in parity with competitors on the Switch (e.g. Stardew Valley, Binding of Isaac, etc.) but due to the lack of achievements, I'm passing.

"Boo-hoo Nintendo left me"

We eatin' fam. Ain't no one telling you to stick around for dinner.

People realize we won't get mynintendo achivements for anything else than mobile games right?

It's just that the system as it is seems more like a way to promote the mobile games and ensure they are being played than anything else. At the very least I don't expect missions and coins to be obtainable from switch games.
They even each have their own coins rather than a single one for all of them. The website isn't even designed to list many types of missions or coins, so if each nintendo game has them it'll quickly be a clusterfuck.

Also for now the website lists only that you can get coins by playing games on smart devices or buying console games.

Maybe they'll simply list achievements/stamps in a separate list (that would honestly serve no purpose given the nature of the website) but I think we can forget coins.

I'm almost positive you're wrong here.

First off, in the investor relations meeting where they unveiled My Nintendo Rewards they explicitly talked about using it for games on future hardware.

Second, the developer documents from the other day explicitly talked about My Nintendo rewards for both retail and download purchases of games. I'll try to find a source for that. EDIT: See source further down

Predictable citing of my profession? Check.

Please be reassured that you have no knowledge or understanding of how to treat patients so your concern is unfounded :)

Ah, so you feel like you're the one chosen to bring balance to the force.

In reality though, you're just souring the mood :)

good thing Caipirinha is here to ground everyone in reality. it would be a shame for people to be excited about new hardware

Woah, is this implying My Nintendo will expand to retail games for the Switch?

My Nintendo Points Program

You can receive an amount of Gold Points equivalent to the amount spent on a retail version product. To receive points, a Nintendo Account is required. For downloadable versions of applications, gold points are assigned automatically when purchasing the application from the shop. You do not need to do anything else. For more information about My Nintendo and Gold Points, see the following websites.

Tempted to make a thread on it, but I'm not sure if I'm optimistically reading into something that isn't really here.

This shows, at the very least, My Nintendo rewards will be part of the Switch. We have no info on if we'll see the Missions, but I'd be kinda surprised if they left that out.

.

The people you describe are equally as annoying as people who "whitewash every positive detail".

But I believe people can voice their opinions regardless of what they are. Where the line is crossed is when people go into every Switch thread they can find and post the same thing over and over again.

All it does is wind people up, and it becomes harder to ignore when you see the same shit in every switch thread.

If someone really has a dislike of a product then I can't understand why they would spend so much time reading about it and posting about it. Why not go and read and post about products they enjoy?

Let people be excited in peace ffs.

I haven't had a Nintendo console since the 64 and I'm very excited.

Ah, that's reassuring. How quickly I forgot about the investor relations meeting comments.

Edit: Receiving Gold Points from retail games was my understanding of the leaked document as well but I don't see how receiving points for the purchase relates to Shahadan's post? I'm probably just misunderstanding your purpose of mentioning that, though.

I mean, the reveal could have been better. They could have produced a video for each region to avoid issues with translations, but the overview of the hardware and the games shown were enough to get most people excited, because the hardware is great and the games lineup for the first year is outstanding (even if launch is a bit gaunt) and there won't be any software droughts for the first year.

Most of the complaints that come forward are very, very nitpicky, though for some people they stack up enough to make them less excited about the value proposition.

It's okay to be in that latter camp, it's not okay to project that opinion on everyone else.

The irony here is your hyperbole overshadows any possible sensationalism you're trying to combat. If anything, gaf has been slightly more negative than positive when it comes to the Switch but you're too butt hurt to notice.

You're not balancing out anything with your shit posts.

Uh, how do you know that? This is becoming more off-topic (but I think it's fair to blame you for starting that), but you voluntarily stated to be unhappy with your job on this very forum. It would be ignorant of me not to consider this part of the anamnesis when conversing with you. We're here to help you!
Now, where did Nintendo touch you? Was it your Wii or your Switch?

It's actually getting boring now, the amount of fake concern and constant criticizing of anything Switch related.

We get it the Switch is underpowered, D.O.A, has no games, will never get any games, is expensive, just fuck off now (not you lol)

I don't want it to be a love in, but the trolling is annoying.

It's gone way beyond just expressing a different opinion.

But ah well, it's exciting to see that snappy, minimalist UI. Hopefully it's a sign that Nintendo learned a lot of lessons from the failure of the Wii U.

Hey one of those is me, and it's taken out of context. I personally don't care one way or another, because it's a feature I won't use but would be cool to see as an option.

But for real, dark theme is life.

But that could mean only gold coins, which will be there of course :p
I'd be very happy to be wrong though. But can we seriously imagine we'll get coins for each achievement in all nintendo games? That sounds like a huge amount of money given freely to buy discounts to pay them even less.

On the other hand playing the mobile games to get coins might lead you to spend money on those, and gold coins you get by buying shit as well.
