How about just a tiny dose of reality to contrast the religious euphoria?

Not every comment has to be perfectly idolatrous of the Switch.

Speaking of cringing to death ... lol. Not sure why trolls like you constantly feel the need to frame your posts as some type of enlightenment on the unwashed masses. Maybe just accept that opinions diverge wildly on pretty much everything and that someone's interest in a consumer product doesn't say anything about them, even if their priorities don't align with yours.

They mention Gold coins, which are the coins you get just for purchasing software. I feel, like this will be like the old System Nintendo had, where each game had a pin you could enter for points.

No pin, you already get gold coins for buying digital software on 3DS and WiiU.

But that could mean only gold coins :p
I'd be very happy to be wrong though. But can we seriously imagine we'll get coins for each achievement in all nintendo games? That sounds like a huge amount of money given freely to buy discounts to pay them even less.

On the other hand playing the mobile games to get coins might lead you to spend money on those, and gold coins you get by buying shit as well.

Only gold coins are used for discounts, platinum coins are used for in-game purchases and things like 3DS themes. It's definitely an unknown right now but I'd say the signs are pointing to yes, that they will be used, rather than no as of now.

No achievement system will just make me buy multi platform games on PS4. Really disappointed by its exclusion. :/

This shows, at the very least, My Nintendo rewards will be part of the Switch. We have no info on if we'll see the Missions, but I'd be kinda surprised if they left that out.

I was thinking it'll probably be quite similar to Uplay's points system. Except I think that was more for 'achievement' style play, where the My Nintendo weekly mobile things seem more like an inducement to regularly boot up the game.

Could always be a mix, I suppose.

You do, but the leaked design docs quoted by Skittzo0413 indicate retail purchases will get you points as well, a la Club Nintendo.

FWIW, the name "points" being represented by platinum and gold coins is ridiculous. They really should have called them coins and not points.

Uh, how do you know that? This is becoming more off-topic (but I think it's fair to blame you for starting that), but you voluntarily stated to be unhappy with your job on this very forum. It would be ignorant of me not to consider this part of the anamnesis when conversing with you. We're here to help you!
Now, where did Nintendo touch you? Was it the your Wii or your Switch?

This is well said.

No you can use platinum coins for shitty discounts as well. They're less generous and on less important games but they exist

Very cool! and I agree, but maybe it's to avoid confusion with ClubNintendo. Speaking of, Club Nintendo was able to tell if you played a game even if you'd already collected the coins from the pin, leading to more coins if you played it within a certain amount of time after registering the pin. I assume the retail gold coins will work the same way, checking if you're the first person to play that particular game cart. maybe?

I know, it just sounds like they will continue to do so for digital Switch software. But since they also mention you will get gold coins for physical purchases, it sounds like something similar to the old pin system is returning.

This "weekly" style thing makes sense for mobile games, whereas a more "achievement" style system would make more sense for console games. In their IR meeting where they unveiled My Nintendo they talked about using it differently for mobile games and for console games, so I'd expect the missions to be different in this way.

Again, it would be nice if we had any sort of confirmation on this but such is Nintendo's communication.

Oh is that true? I haven't paid much attention to them since they were unveiled but I thought I remembered them saying only gold coins were for game discounts.

Poor hiphoptherobot. this reminds me of the episode of the Twilight Zone were the last guy on earth is an avid reader, has all the books in the world but broke his glasses and can't read anymore.

He is the only person on Earth that we know of who has a legitimate case of "Nintendo Switch haz no gaemsssss"

What I hoped and what I expected, respectively. I'm glad that there are signs that both *might* be happening. Now just to wait to see if they become reality.

The weekly system would make more sense for any online multi-player game. MK8D, ARMS, Splatoon 2.

Oh shit, a Blathers icon.

Man, I really want Animal Crossing Switch.

Give a cool Zelda or relaxing Animal Crossing theme Nintendo. Thanks.

Yeah, that could be it for sure. But I think that just goes to show they could've kept the coins moniker, it's iconic for Nintendo.

Yep, it's true - Plat points (there's no such thing as coins in the program BTW - not saying this to give you a hard time or be pedantic, I just get the sense that like me you like to be correct in your terminology) can give you a 15% discount on games, gold points (edit: I originally typed coins, lmao) are used for a 30% discount or a free game.

I think what we may see come to fruition from Shiggy's hint is that games like Splatoon that you go into over and over again will offer weekly mobile-type bonuses and then from there it will depend how hard they want to go into SP-type achievements like creating a BOTW brushfire.

The real issues with this video are
A) why doesn't hiphoptherobot have a tag yet
B) where did hiphoptherobot buy a Switch early so we can go to that store and waste time trying to find one too

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Whatever you say, Mr. "BUT HOW WILL ZELDA ATTRACT KIDS AND TEENS??"

Gotta agree with ShockingAlberto, that line is classic.

Ah yes, that was legendary. Here it is, in all of its disastrous glory

Nothing about this game is winning E3 2008 let alone E3 2016.

We're in a post-Souls post-Witcher world, this looks and feels incredibly dated and unimpressive.

I know some of you will take whatever Zelda fix you can get but be objective and look at this game. Do you really think this is going to win back lost fans and make Nintendo relevant to kids and teens again? Because I would be very worried right now if that's your goal.

I... Don't think I did...?

The achievements should be IN the game. The thing I've noticed about the other console makers is that those trophies mean nothing in the actual game. They don't unlock secret worlds, or do anything that video games have been doing for a very long time.

Nintendo games almost universally have collectibles, and it's not limited to them.

Some game developers do align the trophies with in game rewards, so that's cool.

I was trying to be silly, but I think I failed to make that obvious enough in context.

So region is set first before users. That might mean thee shop is locked to the same one for all users. You wouldn't necessarily have multiple users with multiple regions. You might be able to change region on the fly in System though.

I don't think you'll have this problem much.

Well, I have planning on getting games such as I Am Setsuna, Yooka-Laylee, Dragon Quest Heroes, etc. Not saying I won't buy these games on Switch, but I just don't see any reason not to include achievements at this point...

Interesting, I must have missed some updates to My Nintendo then. And as for points vs. coins, they may call them points but the icons sure look like coins! Don't they even go into a coin bank?

Yeah you can check right now if you don't believe me :p

Hah I don't think I have enough coins (errr points) for anything but I guess I'll check!

Will online stores be region-free or just cartridges?

The Nintendo Switch system is not region locked, but we recommend that players buy games within their region to ensure full service and support. The user will access the Nintendo eShop that corresponds to the country identified in their Nintendo Account. (Up to eight user accounts can be created on a single Nintendo Switch system.)
