Still makes them slimy for doing so. I think they're asking for the console back to investigate. Giving him a switch that he is owed would be good will that they desperately need.
I don't see how he's owed a Switch if he bought a stolen one and then proceeded to upload videos. It's not like Nintendo got money from him.

I understand the need to get information, but you can't really fault Nintendo here. Whether obtained legally or illegally, if you make the decision to show the system before the release then you have to at least expect resistance. In the least. This isn't just a game some retailer sold before street date, this is a whole system. You assume risk by unveiling it.

if it wasn't stolen he would have been fine

at worst he'd have to take down his video

Well do you expect them to give him another one before release? Not to mention he didn't exactly buy it from a retailer...

They were totally in the right to take it back and I wish someone would edit the thread title as I already said I didn't really want a new thread about it.

You could private message a mod to get it changed, I think it should be enough.

Also would just like to say that I hope threads like this won't end up putting you in trouble.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
You mad? Nothing about the thread title is incorrect nor is it hyperbolic. It's a fact that Nintendo has taken his Switch back.

It's also a fact all the updated context surrounding it, including hhtr's will to NOT have new threads on these new events. Or does that become non-contextual when the other parts of the story are enough for posting a negative story on Nintendo?

There's really no reason to put blame or witch hunt on either parties. Hiphop didn't know it was stolen, he willingly gave it back and apologized. Nintendo also did what was normal of a company to do without violating any laws or anything.

...there was likely a pallet of consoles stolen.

How are you people not exhausted from the mental gymnastics required to make Nintendo the bad guy here.

He didn't get it from a retailer.

Yea, glad I wore gloves... I MEAN THOSE FIENDS!!

You really shouldn't have put this dude on blast. He even said he didn't want to talk about it anymore. This is probably going to blow up...especially if there's more to the story.
It was going to be posted everywhere regardless. There was already a big discussion on this in another thread unrelated to the topic at hand.

Jesus Christ Nintendo just take the L and accept some minor damage instead of going against people like hiphoptherobot...
Now i don't recall what happened exactly but i don't recall anything happening to the guy that showed the world the PS4 Slim weeks before it was even announced.

Jesus.

Why? If you buy stolen goods you are not owed anything (EDIT: no matter how innocent you were in doing so). Nintendo, by giving him a Switch, would be creating multiple precedents (lets not forget he did leak the thing, despite how great the leak was) that would have ripple effects going forward just for the few hundred people who would care enough to let this sour their opinion on the company as a whole.

Let's first wait how this plays out. It's a weird story as of now and we need more details.

It didn't happen to me so I know I don't have any business being mad, but yes, I am, because someone explicitly stated they did not want this to be made into a big deal, and you ignored their wishes, started a brand new thread about it, and didn't even include all the relevant information at the time of posting, leading to a carnival of stupid that could have been entirely avoided if you'd simply respected HHR's wishes in the first place.

I'm simply amazed, I guess, at your ability to see someone say "Hey, please don't do thing" and then completely ignore it and do thing anyway, and now you're doubling down on it. HHR doesn't need me standing up for him I'm just stating my awe at your apparent dickishness.

Was that PS4 stolen?

I wasn't the only guy.
Oh give me a break. Why didn't you say you got it from someone or it was stolen from the beginning? Then you come back today with "oh Nintendo took it back from me"...after some time when people started attacking Nintendo and then some (me) realized your story wasn't making sense then you decided to say "oh I actually got it from someone else and it was probably stolen".

Damn it Spy, you couldn't wait 10 minutes to get the full story? Now everyone's all pissed off at Nintendo for no reason.

You don't understand what happened here. That guy didn't receive a stolen PS4.

Yeah FUCK NINTENDO for taking back stolen goods off a guy who lied.

I'd love to know what he supposedly paid for it. Hot items on the street don't normally sell at msrp.

Yeah...shit would sell more than double if it was put up for sale online.

So either he knows a dude who hooked him up or he paid a lot for it? But if he paid extra for it, wouldn't he come to the conclusion that shit was probably stolen/something shady was going on?

Well, in a perfect world people wouldn't react post based solely on the title of a submission, but here we are.

If the store he preordered from is the one who shipped out the stolen console, it is their responsibility.

If it is he got it from a friend who got it from a friend who got it... Then it's his friends responsibility.

He voluntarily relinquished the console to likely assist in an ongoing investigation.

I mean, I even agree with the sentiment that Nintendo brought it on themselves by not showing off things but... seriously? They should've just gone 'who cares' about stolen goods?
No, but considering that the OS answered a number of lingering concerns, how much would it have cost Nintendo to produce its own video? And if the video convinced one person to buy a switch, it was worth the sunk cost. That's also not factoring in the time and effort and expense to reclaim the lost device.

On the other hand, negative reactions from a story like this could dissuade more people from buying a switch which ultimately does more harm than good. Though they may have been legally in the right, The potential harm far outweighs the loss.

What are you talking about? Nintendo asked for the Switch back, nothing more. This is a console that is not released yet. It's not a revision or anything, which has happened before where stuff has been sent out early.

THESE ARE STOLEN UNITS. There are most likely a ton more out in the wild and Nintendo will, and have the right, to track them down.

Jesus, some of you people are such fanboys that even the facts will go over your head. Trump fans too?

Anyway for a mod to try contacting the guy for proof on Nintendo contacting him..or a third party or we.
I dont trust the guy, but whatever puts this discussion to rest.

I am not sure what I get out of telling you I gave it back. I said a thread shouldnt be made about it, I said Nintendo was in the right to take it back and I havent asked for anything in rewturn. So I guess I could just randomly be making up the fact I dont have the switch anymore but it is the truth and I gain nothing but unwanted attention after taking the time to try and answer everyone's questions even though if you gop back to the original thread I didnt really want to post a video in the first place.

A company can't just let stolen merchandise go. I can't believe this needs to be said.

How did they know it was stolen? Did any of the videos show a serial number?

Every single device out there is accounted for at this point in time. It's very easy to find out who Hiphoptherobot is and then you check if he got one as a member of the press or if there are any missing in the vicinity.

Contact him, ask him about it and that you suspect that it's stolen goods.

Done.

1. They asked.
2. Yes, they can. If he says no, then they get the legal system involved.
3. You're a child.

Chill out, it's just a pair of balls.

I think there may be more to this. A pallet of stolen Switch's would make news right?

Is this necessary?

No not before release and I know he didn't buy it from a retailer. I'm just saying that it would be really good PR for them. They're well within their rights but they could come out looking good if they wanted to. It's only 300 dollars to a multi billion dollar corporation.

Kinda late to this story but was Nintendo able to somehow identify the system and knew for a fact this was obtained in an unlawful manner? How else could they know for a fact it wasn't sent from a retailer premature prior to getting in contact with hiphop?

I mean people are forgetting the fact that this unit was showcased for all to see. We all know if it stayed a secret, then no one was going to come knocking asking for it back. This context can't be ignored.

But, we should all be appreciative that someone was able to get us basic UI information that Nintendo hasn't been willing to convey.
