What personal projects are you working on?

I'm planning my wedding, helping and supporting my fiancee as she begins a surrogacy pregnancy, and gearing up for a court case to try and get primary custody of my fiancée's daughter. I also am working on my fluency in Spanish.

Going forward, I want to start a business in financial education, become competent at self defense, and refinance my house.

What are you up to, GAF?

Weight loss! Officially one week in, been trying since mid December, and it's going. In that time I weighed in at 257.6lbs, down to 248.6lbs. Working on my goal in increments, currently aiming for 245.

Yeah weight loss. I lost 100 fucking kilograms before I had a traumatic event in my life and put 60 back on. Trying to reverse that shit again ASAP. Also starting uni :/

Doing woodwork. Making spoons, sculpture, and planning out a chess board for my brother-in-law and a chair for my wife, later this year.

Currently down 15lbs, 30 to go. Also juggling the logistics of a remodel at my house and helping support my wife as she climbs her own corporate ladder path.

The biggest things going on in my life at the moment however are coaching my sons baseball team, and helping run his cub scout den. After working regular 60 hour weeks, these 2 things soak up 4 nights a week. My brother and I do this together, but he has 2 boys and they are both in 2 sports at the same time. Not sure how he does it, dude gets like 4 hours a week to himself.

I'm currently trying to maintain my weight loss (lost fifty), working on the second draft of my first novella (started last June), just finished up the rough draft of a script for a short film that I'm working on with my film club (started last October), I'm gearing up to start applying for a summer internship, and I'm trying to find cheap airfare to Japan for a study abroad program.

I feel like I have way too much on my plate while trying to handle my normal school work load, but it hasn't felt like it yet thankfully.

personal projects are great.
currently I'm doing some 3d projects that aren't work, trying to learn the piano, and forcing myself to read all the shit I've bought over the last couple years.

wish I had more time.. I'd love to learn french and do a few more coursera courses

It's a side project, building a mostly C# front end that performs the basic functions of many top-dollar suites that collects data and information about entities in a network and their relationships (servers, switches and routers, storage/filers, etc). Many ITIL focused companies out there have solutions, but I've found them to sloppy and cumbersome.

well I'm not dead yet

Yeah, this.

I'd like to lose some weight, so I'm working on that (admittedly in the "I'm healthy and already a straight size and this is 100% vanity" type of way, so I don't know how serious you can consider that)

I've been writing a lot and want to write an immersive theatre piece sometime soon.
I'd love to work on an indie game but I haven't been presented with my time/opportunity to do that.

Also managing never ending existential suffering. I spend a lot of time with that one.

I'm all into writing: I read a lot and as an exercise I write a page a day (of anything, really)
I'm writing a book since June 2016. I'm at page 130 now, still aiming to finish the first draft and complete it this year.

Learning about circits so I can make a shock glove and other supervillian things.

And learning how to pick locks, since I've always wanted to.

And trying to get my student loan situation all figured out because I cant afford $222 a month right now, and I really want to go back to school.

I've been slowly cutting the caffeine and junk food outta my diet and starting to hit the gym more. I've also been keeping a workout and food journal. I gotta say I feel much more confident and energetic since I started at the beginning of the year.

I've also started writing a series of short stories and started to draft out a potential story. Dunno if I'll actually do anything with it but I want to keep at it for now.

I have a strong feeling that pretty much my whole life will be strongly invested into my children for at least the next 10-13 years assuming I'm not dead by then. It's a good thing I'm crazy about my kids.

Outside of school/work I've been creating some game prototypes that I'll end up tossing once school/work gets more hectic.

Props to everyone working on weight loss.

I'm at a healthy weight right now, but would like to start going back to the gym. The only gym close to me closed down a couple years ago and I haven't been watching my fitness at all since, unfortunately.

Being more active. Not overweight or anything super unhealthy I just think I feel better after going at an activity like working out for a while. Feels good to be a bit sore after pushing yourself.

Also making more model kits. They are mostly relaxing to make.

Studying Japanese. I live in Japan but can barely read by my standard same with speaking. I can have silly conversations but I want to be better... but I'm really lazy with sitting down with a textbook.

I'm working every single day to create content for my burgeoning Youtube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrg3jX6-C1QqfEPnFQvHCMw ). I'm playing games I mostly missed growing up, or games I love especially. Doing Let's Plays with my kids, and covering indie games I want to share with folks. Honestly, it's a very Beat 'em up-centric channel. It's been really fun learning about video editing and trying to lose my natural monotone voice. I feel there's a pretty evident linear progression in quality from my first vid like 7 weeks ago and my new ones, and I want to keep that rolling.

Other than that I got a big promotion at work that I'm trying to survive and thrive in, and I signed up for school at almost 40 years old for the first time to do my new job the best I can. It's online school through the University of Florida, and I'm pretty concerned that my books have yet to show up. It was pretty expensive and hope I didn't screw up. If they don't show by Friday I'll contact them. It'll have been around a week or so.

Other than that supporting my girlfriend as she finished up Medical Assistant school and trying to be a good dad, as well as eagerly waiting for Friday the 13th The Game to come out (Early 2017!). I lost a ton of weight a few years back when I was newly out of an abusive marriage. Went from around 400 pounds to 168. Then I met someone and got happy and now I'm like 250. I knew statistically that this would likely happen but I'm trying to get my nutrition and exercise back into shape. God, it was so easy in my early thirties but now it's like all the willpower has been sapped from me.

Throw some of the great Stoics in there and I'll so be there for an Android version.

Working on a cosplay for an upcoming convention, and in general am planning on getting my costume company off the ground.

Also wanna dabble in making a Patreon-supported comic.

I'd say weight loss but I'm not really actively trying.

I'm learning more about filmmaking through video essays and watching films. I'd read but with this subject I'm more receptive to audiovisual learning.

There are things I want to do like using Photoshop to adapt certain superhero costumes to a live action setting and assembling Star Wars ship model kits.

Still finishing my book and still trying to make a game. It's just so infuriating. I've been messing around in numerous programs for years and I just can't understand any of it. I don't know how many hours of tutorials I've watched and read, but shit is not clicking. I can't learn programming which is essential for some of these and some say you don't for some programs and recommended me some like Twine and Renpy that don't require it, but it still feels like I do with all the parenthesis, squiqqle things and what not. It's really boring.

No one is willing to help you out either from what I've taken away in all these years. If you ask a couple questions and try them and they don't work and ask again they won't reply. I try collaborating, but it's hard for to find someone who wants to work with a writer which is what I excel in. I did it once with a gaffer and this motherfucker hardly communicated. I spent a lot of time writing shit and he went ghost three times on me. Posted flyers around nearby colleges, tried to meet up with people, but they were no shows and never replied to my emails.

I just feel so frustrated that I have made no progress in so many long years and I don't know what to do. The industry doesn't really hire writers so that's not really an option for me to learn about the industry in the inside. I feel so stuck.

But I really feel like I should be doing more like my livelihood depends on it :|

My brain is pretty bad at programming/scripting too. I have an associates degree in IT but I struggled and still don't know how fuck all works. Even Blueprint in UE4 is hard for me to wrap my head around. I can follow tutorials but then I'm just blank when I try to apply those ideas to something original. But I guess baby steps and hopefully I can start getting an idea of what I can do eventually.

Getting out of my habits of being unemployed...
Oh yeah I need to do more of this too :x

What about that Google app where you take four photos of the photo and it stitches then together to remove the glare?

Making a Super Mario 64 mod, almost finished. Unfortunately Windows10 decided that the program used for it shouldn't work anymore.

Cheese, cheese, and more cheese.

Trying to educate folks about cheese and the fact there is a huge difference between what you buy in bags in the store versus something that is made in smaller batches with care.

People don't recognize that the reason some cheeses are quite expensive is because all the costs it takes to create many of these wonderful varieties. I'm not talking about the feed for the animal and all that, but also the time involved. Sigh.

The life of a cheesemonger.

I'm well on my way though, because now I'm in charge of a bay area cheese meetup group and I hope to continue the learning process, both for myself and as many others as I can.

Recovering from a knee surgery. Twelve weeks into it, and still can't jog, even remotely. I hit the gym 4 times a week plus swimming once a week. It's a long recovery of six months. If I will be able to play tennis in June/July I'm happy.
