Drew Scanlon is leaving Giant Bomb

I'll miss Drew, but I wish him the utmost happiness and success in the future and I look forward to hearing about what he's doing. It's hilarious that his departure coincides with that gif of him that took off.

Cheers, Drew!!

He'll be missed and was a long time presence at Giant Bomb. I didn't particularly care about his podcast appearances because it seemed like he was there to talk about anything except video games for most of it, but he's still a part of that Giant Bomb flavour that's going to be missing. Best of luck to his future endeavours.

They need to make Peter Brown a Bombcast regular.

GB West is in such an odd spot. Even with Jason stepping up his involvement, they're so heavily overshadowed by GBeast.

They need new talent over there, stat.

When you don't post some properly timed meme, GAF knows shit is dire.

Good lord this thread is so weird. So many people projecting their preconceived assumptions of the duders and their personalities. I've never seen such a huge swath of people tell each other how other people think and feel other than when I'm in Giant Bomb topics. Like, how can you say Jeff is jaded, burnt out on games, and needs a break from the industry with such confidence?

The way people talk about the crew like they're characters in a TV show and not real people is just... kinda creepy.

You don't think Drew was into games? Come on.

He doesn't really play a lot of games. Seems to me he plays some mobile stuff and likes to dick around with old consoles and PC sims.

Not to say there's anything wrong with that. He brought a different perspective to GB and he'll be sorely missed there for sure. I just kind of saw this coming because he's a talented guy with lots of interests outside videogames that he could probably explore and get paid for somewhere else.

Best of luck to him.

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen

Yeah it's weird that people try to draw inferences about other people's taste in videogames when they've spent hundreds of hours listening to them opine on the topic.

Damn, Drew is leaving? That sucks. Do we know where he is going yet? I wish him the best, he was great and I loved his stories when he would go on vacation and talk about visiting Korea or some shit. It was funny and refreshing. Gonna miss him.

Say whatever you want about Jeff, but you can't say that his opinions don't hold up well to time. While people are lost in the initial release hype, Jeff is immune to it and can see right past marketing, etc. This is a quality that is found very hard in the gaming industry and no on does it better than Jeff. In a world were people are constantly complaining about video game journalism, it's funny how one of the very few honest and transparent people get called out for being "jaded".

He isn't jaded, he just has high standards, which is exactly what to look for in a game reviewer. For this reason, his 5 stars are actually worth a damn. When he gives a game like Horizon 5 stars, you know it's something special.

I don't agree with everything Jeff says but I can usually tell whether I'm going to like a game or not based on what he says and I think that says alot about him as a journalist and reviewer.

Really, really sad to hear Drew is leaving, will miss him a ton.

On a related note, could you guys please STOP saying Vinny's leaving next? It's making me super nervous.

He said he's not joining NoClip with Danny to get ahead of those assumptions and he's not joining any other company but going solo. Then he mentioned how he'd like to travel the world more, so maybe something involving that.

I've been following GB for a couple of years (well, just listening to their podcasts) and at the end of both years Jeff has been extremely passionate about at least a couple of games each year. So much so that he even tends to railroad GOTY conversations a little too much in my eyes.

Honestly don't get where the "he hates everything" thing comes from.

Wait, this isn't The Workplace thread?

Though I'll look forward to whatever he does next, I'm really gonna miss hearing/seeing him on stuff; he always brought good stories/things to talk about to the podcast that were really different than what everyone else on the staff would bring.

Really gotta wonder how GB's gonna change over the next few years though. Are they gonna get another video guy now? Obviously West still has Jason but given how Jeff's been talking about wanting to get to a point where sickness/vacation doesn't harm their output, they've just lost some of that.

Awww, this sucks that Drew is leaving. I always liked Drew for his dry one liners and ill timed puns, his love of simulation games, racing wheels and HOTAS and just generally bringing something different to the podcasts. He just brought some nice variety to the site whether that was with stories of flying lessons or travels to North Korea or playing sim games that nobody else would have ever covered on the site.

Good luck to him though in whatever he does next!

If you ever watch this guy sitting down, this man is the Posture King, the God of Posture, the Posture Omega.

Seriously. Anytime I've seen a UPF or something when Drew is sitting at the computer, its motivation for me to correct my garbage computer desk posture.
