Embargo on Nintendo Switch console/games previews lift on February 23th / March 1st

Yeah, was thinking that may actually be the strategy here.

Chance are, pre-orders have been strong enough between system and Zelda sales to make it an easy choice, but bear in mind the core audience (us) will likely be keeping an eye on that d-pad ‘issue’ (sans Pro Controller) when it comes to VC games.

If Nintendo picks out a dry month where game launches are slow, the company can make a big deal of VC games hitting Switch to bolster the month, AND potentially a ‘VC Joycon’ with d-pad at the same time. That way the VC Joycon gets fanfare with games to take advantage of it at the same time, giving it a ‘launch boost’ for sales.

I didn't even think of that from the accessory angle! That's honestly a great point! There's also the Eurogamer rumor about Gamecube games and we already know that neither the Pro Controller nor the Joy Con have analog triggers. That makes it seem even more likely that we'll get a drop of Virtual Console games and accessories. I'm thinking that could be an E3 announcement.

Wait, FAST RMX AND SHOVELKNIGHT are March 3rd releases?!

Really happy at that :) I already own both on Wii U but I'll still grab FAST and maybe Shovel Knight. Something else to play beside Zelda!

Never underestimate stupidity.

Ahah, to be fair Nintendo's branding can get confusing on these. I remember seeing many youtube reviews of labelling WiiWare games as Virtual Console and vice versa.

Zelda and school are going to keep me busy enough but once the summer starts up the lack of games is gonna get tiresome. Hoping a Direct soon to announce the plans for online, VC and a handful of games (I guess that's what E3 is for, but....meh.

I knew it! That hole is for ventilation!

Also shame on no virtual console at launch, though I guess understandable. Just hope it doesn't take long to add the stuff they already ported to previous systems... Oh of course it will.

It really isn't.

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, as far as I understand it, that does not make sense to me either.

Also, Rodin, always glad to see you fighting the good fight for the underdog that is Skyward Sword. I don't know if you ever saw my LTTP but I was so happy that I have the game a second chance. http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=894926
Missed it, but i read it now and that was a great post. I agree with what you said, in fact i think i'm gonna replay the game this year. Still hope that Nintendo will remaster it for Switch, JoyCon controllers are perfect for it.

Eh, certainly not his best work. Expected more.

Kind of amazing. A single tweet and a thread that was building hype for previews goes depressing and negative.

It's just more evidence of Switch being rushed out the door for spring. Seemingly nothing is ready for this console but Zelda and some indies. A lot is riding on Zelda.

I've never touched or seen much of shovel knight but if it's coop my girlfriend will like it. Is it worth getting?

Throughly baffling that people care so much about VC being there at launch given the sorry state it's been in the entire time it has existed. Also it's strange considering the fact that the competition didn't have this shit ready at launch.

Yeah, honestly I figured that was the case with it releasing so close to the end of Nintendo's fiscal year. They promised their investors it would be out so it's getting put out. Ready or not.

I don't know man, I'd be pretty fucking down with the already-on-WiiU-VC METROID PRIME TRILOGY on the go

I think it's the portable thing that had people hyped for VC at launch

I feel like early adopters should be crazy rewarded with such a sparse library at launch. And the simplest and dare I say cheapest solution would be to stuff our pink cheecks with Virtual Console games.
I'm seriously suggesting giving it away like the ambassador program. But at launch as opposed to reactionary.

Soft launch it is. Eh, it's fine by me, Zelda and Bomberman, then MK8 will be more than enough companions to the plethora of PS4 games I'm supposed to handle.

And yet, people are still believing that there're first party game in development in secret.

I don't really know why so many folks expected VC as a guarantee at launch. It wasn't at launch on the last two Nintendo systems either.

While it would have been nice to also have MK8D on Day 1 for the sake of split Joy-Con multiplayer, I'll probably be too busy with Zelda to even bother with it until later. That plus having the game in April avoids the potential droughts that could have occurred that month.

Man, lack of VC at launch is giving me Wii U vibes. VC is one of the biggest selling points to me so seeing it just non-existent at launch sets a bad precedent for the future.

Hardware previews. So not a ton. Just impressions and videos of people playing the thing. Maybe previews of some of the launch games besides Zelda?

This is what I had in mine and would like to see. You think, with today's announcements, that the press has already received download codes for Shovel Knight and Fast RMX (along with other Day 1 titles like Bomberman and I Am Setsuna)?

Lack of a playable library of games from previous gens at launch is giving me total PS4 vibes. Not a good look.

Sarcasm aside, what was the last console to launch with something like this? Nothing since the PSWII60 generation, right?

it's odd people still have expectations and feelings for the VC. I've given up on it and will never give them another dime for it.
