The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Preview Thread

How unrealistic is this? That axe should've chopped that goblin in half. Sort it out, Nintendo.

Hah.

Well as annoying as it is for someone who really doesn't like this new open world do whatever you want direction for the game (and the combat gameplay seems so basic and boring), looks like we are getting our first 95+ metacritic score this gen. No way around it. I have never seen previews like this.

Wha? I guess zelda is groundbreaking if you've only owned a Nintendo system your whole life

I don't know man, I doubt the previewers who've played this game have only ever played Nintendo games. Maybe you could try to understand the reasons why people think this is groundbreaking instead of being immediately dismissive. I personally don't think I can make that judgement until I've played it, but it's certainly very ambitious.

Anyways, cool clip of stasis rune antics from Gamespot.

Something about the juxtaposition of the Bokoblin's headshaking as it leaps and its ragdoll physics as it flies away is very amusing. I'm very satisfied by the animation in this game.

Gamespot's Peter Brown said it could not only be revolutionary for Zelda, but for the open world genre in general. And he mentioned that compared to Horizon, at least in terms of what he likes about the open world design, the list of things Zelda brings to the open world genre would be at least twice as long. Those impressions could change, but that's what the preview said

I'm so glad there's ragdoll in this game.
Ragdoll makes every game more fun.

Thank you for this!

Previews are sound really good so far and I was a little worried since it's the first 3D open world Zelda game. I hope the Wii U version is nearly identical to the Switch version other than the 720p resolution.

There are mostly graphical improvements across the board jumping from Wii U to Switch, but Aonuma assures that the experience will be the same and he encourages you to play it however you can (but that it'll run better on the Switch).

Pretty much. I feel like reading/watching so much content about the game so close before release just makes you enjoy the game less.

Despite being the creator of this topic I haven't actually read or watched any of the previews/gameplay. :D

The difference is it lets you enjoy the game now!

Versus waiting an agonizing 6.5 days...

Come on don't be ridiculous now. I mean how do you want me to spoiler tag that?

"You can do something with a dog. Click the link below to find out what you can do with dogs."

*spoiler link*

Pls... again if you don't want to know and see anything outside the Great Plateau my advice would be to stay out of this thread.

Nintendo doesn't consider that a spoiler otherwise it would be under embargo. They got a huge list of things they aren't allowed to talk about yet, petting dogs was obviously not one of those things.
Put it in link form, don't show the image, is it that hard? Someone put a link to villages earlier.
I've been reading this thread spoilers free, until you posted something that's not already known. I have no idea where the dogs are, but everything outside of the great plateau is under embargo and considered spoilers, which is why the village post was a link only.

Sounds alright. I can deal with some occasional drops.

A recent GameXplain video compounds a lot of these drops around the Great Plataeu, an expansive, but somewhat barren landscape where a lot of environmental effects and weather are rendered in full. Apparently the drops become more infrequent when you exit to other areas and GameXplain themselves note that how often the Plateau frames drops remain infrequent.

Hey guys, now that the preview embargo is up, if you'd like to ask any questions about the game that I'm allowed to answer, I'll gladly do that for you, as I have a Switch and a copy of the game.

While horizon looks high end gfx with a nice environment I think you rather can't compare it to Zelda. I would place it beside the witcher, dark soul and skyrim. Zelda is just a whole different game. Horizon and mass effect are good games, but it's more of following the story, while zelda is about experience the magic world and playing the story.

Personally looking at all games, Zelda is groundbreaking. It new and fresh with their physics engine, it hasn't been done before, same happened with splatoon and mario galaxy. Thats what I love about nintendo.

But like music, it's not that you only like one song, enjoy both.

This is a ridiculous post.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

So you want me to just post the link without any description? and what do i tell people when they ask what this link is about?

Also omg Twilight Princess horse strafing is in the game, i'm sure you also wanted to find this out by yourself.

Yeah, all looks good and i can't wait to play it but i haven't seen anything i would describe as groundbreaking.

There's been some confusion regarding the differences between handheld and docked mode. Is it just a resolution bump when docked, or do you see any other visual differences?

Are there multiple difficulty settings? Anyone comment on how the Joy Cons feel vs the Pro controller?

MHWilliams specifies that he's playing on Normal. Don't know if that just his way of saying just playing the default mode, but that might mean at least an easy or hard setting.

On one of The previews they couldn't help to compare the game with Horizon, and after they played Zelda BOTW it mentions that it feels simplistic. Here is the quote:

Having just completed it, we couldn’t help but think of Horizon Zero Dawn while playing Breath Of The Wild, and how simplistic it now seems compared to Zelda. You also have a bow in Breath Of The Wild, but you have to account for how arrows arc through the air, rather than it just acting like a low-tech sniper rifle. Boomerangs have to be caught manually on their return and the best way to defeat the skeletons that appear at night is to chop off their head and punt it into a river, like a goalkeeper trying to make a clearance.

What are your thoughts? is it a fair comparison? I'm Hyped for HZD but if know something about Nintendo is that gameplay is king.

He's referring to the HUD setting, there's no difficult settings afaik.

This was posted before. They're ultimately different games trying to do different things even when they're both open world, and it's possible to enjoy them both for different reasons.

Can we just fucking stop with the horizon vs zelda bullshit. Fuck!

Both are good games. Period. Sheesh. Ny god humanity is so fucking petty (myself included). Really cant wait for a meteor to just end all this senseless bullshit.

If zelda reviews worse than horizon, so the fuck what? If horizon reviews better who gives a shit. Horizon is technicially superior. Period. Art style though is up for debate. Its also okay to think both games look great for difference (or even the same) reasons.

Humanity was such a mistake. Thats why I dont believe in God. No supreme sentient being would allow us to exist seeing what we would become way back when in our inchoate states.

Is it possible to do exactly this with a bomb and a shield?

zelda-cartoon-link-bomb-jump-bomb-shield-jump-14303882890.gif

Yes, only with more being dead.

There's been some confusion regarding the differences between handheld and docked mode. Is it just a resolution bump when docked, or do you see any other visual differences?

It really looks about the same in handheld vs. docked mode, considering screen sizes. I play on a 65" screen and I notice little details that I don't always see in handheld mode, but upon further inspection they're rendering.
