PAL Charts - Week 8, 2017

Horizon will easily outsell Zelda. It won't even be close. I expect a load of stupid GIFs to follow too.

Seen trailers on prime time TV, at the cinema, and in the London underground.

Horizon Zero Dawn is being advertised on Buses. Games advertised on buses always do well - I expect Horizon to be Sony's biggest launch since Uncharted 4 and will take the top spot over Zelda.

Not really. I don't really see how the system with 0 install base is gonna produce better sales than the system with healthy software sales and millions of consoles already established when we are talking about bigger budget titles.

Is that unreasonable or?
I just think both can do very well and one selling less than the other isn't an indication of underperforming.

They're both great games that will sell very very well. They're both going to push their console's sales and keep pushing them through the holiday season and beyond.

I feel that works both ways. Since both physical versions are selling out, a decent share of Zeldas sales will likely be digital, or missed sales as people have to wait.

Like yeah, Horizon is likely to beat Zelda in the UK, but if it's close, Nintendo have already left sales on the table.

i don't think all that many Switch Early adopters are going to buy Zelda from the eshop, seeing as there's no preloading window, seeing as built in storage is rather limited, etc, and people being definitely more cautious about going digital on a Nintendo console than on the PS4.

Meh, i do feel like a the most hyped exclusive on a system with an install base of almost 60 million should easily outsell the launch title of a new console (+ whatever units they're gonna sell on Wii U, which i doubt will be many ... many of the Switch pre-orders are certainly former owners of a Wii U, thereby the install bases can't really be added due to the overlap)

So, while both games can do great and be considered 'succesfull', i feel Horizon should easily beat Zelda. It's a numbers game, really ... There's simply that many PS4s out there.

We're just talking about UK here. The 60M number is closer to worldwide figures.

Still, even if Horizon doesn't outsell Zelda, it shouldn't lead to posts about Horizon bombing, Horizon not being a system seller, Horizon not being a big game, etc... That is the stuff that is annoying.

Nah, I'm just saying they might not have much choice if they left the pretty order looking for deals. Amazon aren't delivering new orders on release, Argos have sold out and Game want £60. If someone's hoping to waltz in store and get one, they may have to choose between the eShop and staring at their new tablet.

Not sure if people actually expected something good for HW2. Console RTS is a dead genre for a reason. Halo Wars was the best selling console RTS ever with just above 2M sales. I would say though it is possible it had some success on PC/Xbox digital because of Play Anywhere but that won't be a lot.

Do we have an estimate for For Honor week 2 so we have a limit to what Halo Wars 2 launched at?

I wasn't being entirely serious.

I do think it's notable when adverts are on buses though. For some reason, to me it feels like that's one of the few traditional spots for advertising, that only in the last few years, games have become culturally significantly enough to utilise.

Sony are advertising Horizon heavily and I get a sense that they expect/hope that it will push through into the mainstream like Uncharted did.

If bus ads can lead Britain out of the EU, then they can Horizon lead to the top of the charts, too.

Horizon will be out tomorrow, Zelda only 3 march.

Also, PS4 install base is huge, I can't see Zelda take the first place, if will happen I'll be really surprised.

I think Horizon's gonna take the top spot next week, but Zelda will have the longer legs. There's my in-depth analysis right there.

Installed base. The PS4s is huge, and no one even knows how many Switch will be available for the UK market.
So yes, Horizon will sell more, much more.

Zelda's attach rate for Switch will probably be like 80% combined with Wii U sales are what I think will put it on top.

In any case, I think it'll be tight race between both games and naturally both will sell gangbusters.

Nintendo Hardware UK Launch Sales:

Game Boy Advance - 67,000
Nintendo GameCube - 69,000
Nintendo DS - 87,000
Nintendo Wii - 105,000
Nintendo 3DS - 113,000
Nintendo Wii U - 40,000

Thanks for this Bruno.

I think 90-100k will happen for the Switch, because it will be a bit supply constrained at launch.

Definitely a slow week when Charttrack just wants to talk about next week.

Halo Wars is a poor debut. Seemingly well under the originals.

But yeah next week is interesting for various reasons. Seeing how well Switch games fare and certainly outside of Zelda and 1-2 Switch what will sell. Just how many consoles were shipped/sold first week and in comparison to other hardware. Then of course Horizon vs Zelda.

Bring it on!

WiiU installed base in the UK is nothing to be proud off, and I expect many of them to early adopt the Switch.
So going for fw#, I´d put Horizon safely north of 150k, and Zelda around 100k.

Hmm that's crazy close to UC4's 180k debut if I remember correctly.
Don't see that many UK PS4 owners flocking in numbers like that to an untested new IP even with all the positive wom.

I think it'll be more around 120k mark or a little below.

I have looked for software data and the best-selling Wii U game was Nintendo Land with 25,700 units sold.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the best-selling Wii game with around 70,000 units.

I'm gonna guess 70k Switch and 55k Zelda cause I think it'll do better than Wii U.
HoRizon I guess will be 95k
Edit: lowering Switch to 60k and Zelda 45k

This makes me think Horizon will outsell Zelda, what with the numbers for No Man's Sky and all. There might not be the same crazy hype as there was with NMS, but I think it's comparable.

I think it was posted in this thread For Honor was biggest launch since NMS which was 110K and had a 72% drops so it's less than 33K so Halo Wars 2 is <33K

I guess the question is if Nintendo can conceivably sell 100k Switches or not day 1. I doubt many will be getting one without Zelda. "Oh hey guys, have you seen 1-2 Switch? WHERE ARE MY CARD DETAILS?!"

Zelda? I don't think Switch will sell enough in UK to make Zelda first.

Horizon will be first.

Prediction...

Switch ~130k
Zelda ~100k
Horizon ~180k

This is retail so 100k Switch won't show 100k Zelda even if you exclude non-Zelda buyers.

What's the highest debut for a Zelda game in the UK?
I think Twilight Princess at 70k right?
Or did Skyward Sword beat it?
Also y'all very optimistic about the Switch doing 100k I wouldn't even be surprised if it does half of that(hope In wrong but wouldn't be surprised).

Nintendo Wii - 105,000

They can't. The Switch hype is nowhere near the hype of the Wii, and it costs more. Even if they matched Wii sales, 95% of users would need to pick up Zelda. There'll be a very high attach rate, but it's not gonna happen.

HW2 doing good.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-02-27-for-honor-holds-off-halo-wars-2-in-uk-charts

The continued success of For Honor means it hasn't been an especially strong first week for Xbox's Halo Wars 2, although the Xbox One version of the game was the biggest selling individual SKU of the week. It's also important to note that Halo Wars 2 was also released on PC and is in a genre (RTS) that is typically popular on that platform. Most PC games are sold digitally and those numbers are not included in these charts.

The original Halo Wars did significantly better in its first week, yet the market has changed significantly since February 2009

I'm pretty sure game will fall pretty fast out of the charts like Quantum Break.

Thx. Yeah I don't think BOTW is going to hit 100K which is probably the bare minimum required to beat Horizon, unless we are all overestimating demand for Horizon.

There's no way Horizon outsells Zelda. Like, both are going to do very well, and Horizon has been wonderfully marketed, but even though the PS4 install base is massive, this game won't necessarily appeal to everyone that owns the console.

Meanwhile, practically everyone that gets a Switch will be getting Zelda, and a reasonable proportion of Wii U owners will get it, too.

I think we should be looking to high numbers for both games, which is good stuff.
