Switch wi fi is atrocious for me

Is anyone else getting issues with Switch wi-fi? I am getting one bar and constantly disconnects in a room right next to my router where all other devices to not drop.

It is absolutely terrible and I hope it's a fluke issue I'm having and not an issue with the system itself.

it probably has a shitty network card. would not surprise me considering how cheaply made the whole console is.

Same, it seems pretty shitty. Fortunately it's portable so I can move it closer to the router for big downloads but it can drop the connection entirely when next to my TV it seems.

Mine is connected to my 5ghz and has been working great all day
Same here.

I don't know their sizes, but I downloaded the day 1 firmware update, the Zelda day 1 patch and all 3 demos (Snipperclips from EU, Dragon Quest Heroes and Puyo Puyo Tetris fom JP) really fast.

I had the same issue, and I think I fixed it by changing the channel on the wifi router. I say think because I only tried once this morning, and it worked pretty fine, but too early to say for sure. But I did notice that on a crowded channel (the most crowded), anything outside a 1m radius > utter garbage. Looks like the Switch is pretty sensitive to interferences (at least in 2.4Ghz)

Environment isn't ideal here (lots of other wifi networks around, thick concrete walls, etc.). Unfortunately, no 5Ghz for me.

Goddamn shitposting on the first post. What a great start to a thread.

not shitposting, just my opinion

Ehhh....so far its much better than my PS4 in this regard. It seeing 5GHz is a god send.

PS4 Pro works with 5GHz.

The console itself seems well made... I mean it has one of the better screens I've seen on s portable device.

hmmm the screen is fine, definitely not one of the better screens.

lol

hmm

Couldn't connect to the wifi consistently in my workplace, but that's nothing to write home about as our wifi network is rather meh.

I had a spare verizon hospot so I just booted that thing up and used it at work to update instead. I don't expect to have any wifi issues in my home.

It's alittle odd, mine says it's only got 1 bar but connectivity seems fine. I mean, I've not played multiplayer yet but downloads were fine and the network test says it's getting 30Mb down.

Still might get an ethernet adapter though. Kinda pisses me off that my Switch is less than a foot from my (network) switch and I can't connect them...

Edit: It's on 5GHz 802.11ac.

Yeah, I have 2 bars and am sitting in the same room as my router (every other device in here has full signal.)

Hasn't actually notably impacted download speeds though.

Its been working just fine for me. The updates only took like 2 mins and downloading Snipperclips was really quick too.

''Probably''

You thought that word would make you look legit?

I'm on 2.4 GHz and it works flawlessly. 6MBs (or Mbs?) on my 12MBs connection. My PS4 only reaches like 1.5

Having a strange issue where it won't connect to the internet if awoken from sleep in the dock. It works completely in handheld mode, and if I start in handheld mode and then dock it, it works.

No problems here. I have full bars and my Switch is on the other side of the house from the room where the router is.

I can confirm that the 2.4 connection is terribad. Lost connection several times with the router in the next room. 5 ghz oth works flawless.

5Ghz for me with stock ISP router; 0 issues connecting, downloading. Quite a bit better than my PS4 actually.

Reportedly, Switch's Wi-Fi is the same Broadcom chip that's used on the HTC One M9.

I think that phone's wifi was not very good.

This seems to happen to me every new device I add... usually end up with having to reset the router and start over with the settings... or maybe your router is dying?

I went crazy over two amazon tablets not working on my network, gave up and picked up a new router and discovered everything on my network operated twice as fast as before.

That's bizarre considering 2.4Ghz has far better penetration of surfaces and range.

The 2.4GHz channels are much more crowded by other routers and, subsequently, there is often more interference. 5GHz has more non-overlapping channels available for use and fewer people have 5GHz compatible routers / devices currently.

Oh sure, PS4 Pro, the SECOND revision of the console.

My launch unit scoffs at your use of the Pro.

Couldn't find a better place to post this-

I grabbed my Switch from the front porch and headed to a hotel for the night. Apparently the Wifi selector can find the hotel ID, but since I can't pull up a web page to "login" to the free wifi,I can't connect and get the update. Is it possible to get the update any other way?

Mine was doing this also, no wifi connex from wake in the dock. I think the wifi chip is poor, but i changed router channel which was highly contested when i checked using wifi analyser on my phone. Switched to 2.4ghz also and now its ok.
