Nintendo Switch Launch Thread: Now you're playing with power; HYBRID POWER!

Had to send in my neon switch in for repair today... was playing the system in handheld mode last night and it was working fine, I take the system and dock it for the night so it can charge up again, Tried to play some Zelda this afternoon and my system wont turn on! I attempted to reset the system and it still wouldn't boot past the Nintendo logo. I noticed that the charger was working but the system itself wouldn't charge at all, regardless if the power was connected to the the dock or the system. Called Nintendo and they made me go through everything I had done to troubleshoot the system and it still doesn't work, I never had a launch day console stop working but I guess their is a first time for everything lol.

Damn, that sucks man. Hope the turnaround is quick!

One thing I've noticed about my Switch is that the right joy con, when connected, has slightly more give than the left. Like if I hold the console using only my left hand it feels normal, but if I hold it with my right hand I can feel the right joycon shift ever so slightly.

Maturity, bitches.
That bold part though. You must not have held many Apple products in your life. I'm not Apple fan, but if you think the Switch which is made entirely of soft plastic feels anything like most Apple products which are made from glass and metal, I don't really know what to say.

It's funny, cos I'm using an Apple product right now that's made out of plastic.

Here's some accessories that I've been using with my Switch, and I thought I'd pass them on as a recommendation

Google 22.5w Dual Port USB C Charger

I intially had bought this charger for my Nexus 6P, but it does a fantastic job of charging my Switch. I've charged both my phone and Switch with both of them plugged in and it's currently charging one of my Pro Controllers. I doubt there's enough wattage to power the console in the dock, but it works fine in handheld mode.

Cost's $40 from Google, but I think it's worth it due to the two USB ports and I trust Google to make quality USB-C products that won't fry your device, as opposed to cheaper off-brand chargers.

Mpow Bluetooth transmitter/receiver

For anyone who wants to use Bluetooth headsets with the Switch, this is currently the only way to do it, using a Bluetooth transmitter. Hopefully Nintendo finds a way to make it work in a firmware update. I like this one because it's small and compact. The only issue I had with it is that the audio could be a bit louder (even with the system volume and my headset volume at max).

Has nobody received an Orzly tempered glass screen protector yet? Trying to find impressions of it online is hard.
Nah, still waiting. Won't be getting mine til late March/early April. I didn't care about the wait when I got them because I figured "eh, doubt I'll get a scratch that fast, I can wait."

Oh boy did I fuck up.

Mine is like that too. It's very subtle, but it's there. Much better than the 3DS top screen sliding lol

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I've not been keeping up with the Switch rumours and leaks

Did they turn out to be fake or the person on Twitter still thing they are coming later down the line.

The rumours were
Mario Maker port
Rabbids Vs Mario
Smash Bros port
Pikmin 4
Pokémon Stars
Xenoblade X port

Also Splatoon having a 1v1 mode

Most of those rumors were from LKD, who ended up with a horrible track record.

Got my switch today. So far I love it. Honestly impressed with how good it feels, doesn't feel cheap at all.

As someone who is about to spend over 20 hours travelling of the course of the next 2 weeks I am so pumped to have this right now.

okay, glad I'm not the only one 😂

I'd totally forgotten about the 3DS screen though, that used to annoy me so much. Every time you switched hands it would slide!

Pikmin, Smash Bros and Pokemon were also reported by Eurogamer which has excellent record with Switch rumors. I wouldn't hold my breath for Mario Maker or Xenoblade X though.

Got in my second pair of neon joycons and since I haven't seen many pics I figured I'd share.

Mine's the same. There's some variance in tolerances with the Switch + JoyCon. I don't recommend anyone pick up the Switch by the JoyCon, because it absolutely puts undue stress on that part of the system.

I am asking this for my brother, he's not on Neogaf but has a very weird but especially annoying problem. He has a Samsung KS8000 and the Nintendo Switch. There are no HDMI inputs on the TV and it comes with a HDMI box basically. He has his Switch, Digital TV tuner, Xbox One S and PS4 connected via HDMI to it.

The problem starts when he's gaming on either Xbox or PS4 or watching TV and out of the blue the TV switches back to HDMI 4 where the Nintendo Switch is at. We had this yesterday while playing Horizon ZD in the middle of a conversation with an NPC, it just changed to HDMI 4 for no reason. The weird part is that when he removes the Switch from the dock It's gone. Apparently this is a problem more people have. Is there anything he can do about this? He's considering selling his Nintendo Switch and buying Zelda for Wii U and wait until this problem is gone. But before doing so trying out everything he can would be wise. Any advice?
I have this too. With my home media amp. No solution as yet.

I'd love a grip accessory that thickens up the joycons but is usable in portable mode. Anybody know of anything like that?

What kind of battery life are you guys getting on your joycons? I think someone said Nintendo rated them as 20hrs, but just wondering on real world testing.

Is there a way to show the percentage of the joycons battery? I know you can tap the top right of the screen to show the switch's percentage but haven't tried doing that for the joycons.

Nice, thanks for the post. I didn't care for Neon with the mixed colors, but with the two blues I might change my mind... If I only buy 1 blue can the spare Joycon be used as a third player in upcoming local multiplayer games?

I'm getting the Pro Controller as well, but with the Wii U I'd often have family over and the kids would play 3 or 4 players local sometimes on games like Mario Party or Super Mario U.

Hey guys I have a quick question. I just got my system today but I am still waiting in my 128 gb memory card. If I update my system and everything will I need to do that again once my new card comes in? Thanks for the help!

wonder what the likelihood is that we'll continue to see retro sequels like BLASTER MASTER. maybe something like this is how they economically support and produce METROID.

I'm definitely getting Mario Kart 8....what other exclusives are coming to the Switch? All the indie stuff I'd rather have on PC, as well as 3rd party games....

I'm not really interested in Splatoon, no MP for me.

And solid info or rumours for 2017?

Just giving my feedback.

I bought this charger for $7.5 on sale

[Upgraded] Anker 2-Port 24W USB Wall Charger PowerPort 2 with PowerIQ for iPhone 7 / 6s / Plus, iPad Air 2 / mini 3, Galaxy S Series, Note Series, LG, Nexus, HTC and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LCDJ7LG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

And this USB a to USB c cable great quality for 7 bucks

I'm so pleased with the Switch so far. It has delivered on the use case of a hybrid system. They launched with an absolutely killer app and the hardware is gorgeous.

My main concern right now is save files. With how much work I'm putting into Zelda I really want to be able to make a backup of that data. Also, if a friend comes over and hops on my account with "new game" they would completely erase all of my saves? I could make a local "Guest" account, but what if a couple people wanted to use that for a play through? I guess that I might be an edge case, but my wife and I have our families stay at our place on holidays and don't necessarily want to fill up my 8 accounts with unique user accounts. Is there any working solution for this? I guess specifically for Zelda.

Uh oh I hope my left joycon ain't broke. Worked fine through setup but now all of a sudden the analogue stick is automatically moving the cursor left when stationary.

edit:I turned it off and on and now it works fine but I'm scared :(

Japan shop doesn't like either of my CCs. I'm being told to check my input.

I just need about 1000, does anywhere do digital codes relatively quick? Or maybe somebody knows what's going on?

The switch has made me exceed my HDMI ports for my TV. Is there a splitter I could use that doesn't degrade quality and lets me easily switch between the hdmi on my cable box, switch, ps4? That would be great.

So are anyone elses Switch speakers quiet? Max volume doesn't seem that loud, and at half or less it's quite hard to hear the music in a game like Zelda.

I asked once before on this but only got one reply.

Anyone going handheld only with the Switch? I haven't even unpacked the second tray and not planning on it either.

Find the joycons extremely uncomfortable. Can't play it that long before my hands start hurting. Going to need to get a pro controller.

Yea it is a bit low. Wonder if it's because the Switch is region free so they made all units with the lower max volume to satisfy the EU's volume limit requirement.

I am. I grew up on Nintendo handhelds, have always bought them, have a fascination of them.

I'm also getting older and getting more busy, so picking up a game anywhere I am is great.

I know it's been said by a lot of other people, but the Neon color really grew on me since January 12th. It looks very cool and unique.
