PS3 Emulator RPCS3 Can Now Play Demon's Souls on PC

Skimmed through and some framerate issues at parts, but it's looking pretty good.

PS Now seems like a better choice for now though.

Is this easy enough to set up? Just rip the Blu-ray Disc, fiddle around with some settings and launch the ISO, right?

I remember people saying* it would be a decade or even never for ps3 emulation, the work these guys do is incredible

-Performance. The game is very demanding of resources, and while Ryzen @ 4 ghz or 6 cores of Haswell-E can run some areas of the game at 30 fps, it can also drop down to as little as 10 fps in big open areas such as in front of The Boletarian Castle. One really wants a stable 30 fps (native frame rate, maybe someone will mod it to 60 fps), and preferably also on “normal” CPU’s. But there are both short and long term plans to improve performance, for example by making the LLVM recompiler not crash in this game.
-The player character shadow is missing, and there are other minor graphical bugs here and there.
-The sound is a bit unstable. It can work fine for a while, but after some 5-10 minutes it can suddenly stop. There are also problems where sound effects are repeated before they are finished or they sound very loud and strange.
-The game can randomly get stuck on loading screens. Not critical as it auto-saves continuously.

You'll need a vita emulator for that.

Until then I'd just play regular Persona 4 on pcsx2 with widescreen fix + ui fix if I was you

Wow, the performance seems incredibly good considering it's in interpreter mode. Have you ever tried running other emulators in interpreter instead of recomplier? Some run at 1 or 2 fps in this mode.

A PS3 emulator, seems crazy if you think about how complex the PS3 was, but the PS3 had many good exclusives, so it's not that surprising if some people are working on it.

(It's currently also the only place where you can play the whole Metal Gear collection, so heaving a PS3 emulator would make those games available again.)

They said Persona 5 too goes from 10 fps to 30 fps. It's a huge improvement compared to the max 5 fps that game reached few days ago.

Damn if this patreon trend actually helps speed up the development of complex emulators then i'm definitely going to support whatever I can. These developers deserve everything they can get for the time they sink in these projects.

Shadows of Damned.

I honestly sometimes think about that game. I remember looking for that game back in the day, but at least in Belgium I just couldn't find it for cheap...
Nowadays such a game would always get a digital and PC release.

The PS3 (and x360) have so many niche exclusives. 3D dot heroes is also such a game.

i wonder if this kind of work bodes well for the possibility(not probability) of a PS3 emulator for PS5? I mean this is being run on an i7, but now that AMD have competition coming, it seems like the floor will go up dramatically very soon

If they do it like with ps2 on ps4, they might as well not even try to develop it.

Even if the next Playstation packs the equivalent of a current i7 (spoilers:
It won't
) they would still rather push their streaming service for that sweet cash.

On a technical level, probably. But they don't seem to value BC much now, let alone when PS5 hits.

Probability of seeing PS4 BC and thus access to the "remastered" PS3 games is much, much higher and certainly less expensive in every regard imo. Also: PS Now.

I really wish someone would take a branch of Citra to Patreon. 3DS games deserve to be viewed at higher resolutions and framerates. There is so much wasted effort on the part of developers that isn't seen on that garbage screen.

I was referring to pure technical terms that's why i said possible not probable, generally speaking most of the PS3 games that i find worth it already remastered or games i already own

I think going back and emulating older PS's are probably out of the question, but i do think PS4/Pro will be prioritized for BC on PS5

Amazing that it runs so well on an Interpreter. Once they add dynamic recompilation this thing should run easily at full speed. Will probably still require a beefy CPU.

How's that PS2 emulator doing on our PS4s?

Fantastic, isn't it?

Here's a tip: Sony can sell you the same game twice without working emulators. They will not allow it on PS5.
