Dark Souls III |OT+2| Why Can't We Poise the Game?

Having fun at Farron's Keep. Coop with a friend in Road of Sacrifices was tons of fun as well with many invasions by Watchdogs. This is turning into one of those great games that consumes my thoughts while I'm at work, etc. which I wanted it to be, but wasn't as optimistic after not being obsessed with DS2. Managed to join watchdogs and rain on someone else's parade a bit to share the love! Also, the Sage was such a punching bag...pillars were easy to use to hide from his clones too.

Road of Sacrifices around level 25-35 is some of the most fun PVP in the game. I've had some absolutely hilarious invasions there.

Yeah there were a variety of battles, spell casters, glass cannons, tanks. Lots of fun. Most trouble came from guys using some type of flame buff on a sword with really long reach that were backstabbing me from head on.

I'm at level 66 on my current build and I seem to be outside the normal Pontiff summoning range (I got summoned a lot at level 60 there, but now I'm getting very few). Which boss should I move to? Preferably one that's not Dragonslayer Armor because I'm a Faith build. I was thinking Aldrich or Oceiros.

You'd get summoned consistently for Aldrich, I've never had much luck with Oceiros - at any level.

Question before I tell my story: how do you guys punish rollers and runners in pvp?

So after playing some Zelda I got a sudden urge to come back to DS3. I never committed to a level 1 run in this game but decided to cap at level 30 and +3 weapons. Eventually I ran the entire game and then decided to coop in some of the beginning areas for the lulz. I'm chockfull of estus, rings and handy buffs like rouge and gold resin. First thing that happens when I help a bro out in undead settlement: another troll like me invades the game! He's full of hp, estus, high recovery and a heavy sword I could't make out but nevertheless made a guaranteed 2-hit if connected for some heavy damage.

So our second cooperator decided to haul some ass, immediately dies to said combo, while the motherfucking host of embers runs the hell out of the map without notice. At the same time, a blue sentinel spawns at the perfect moment in the game but was afk and nowhere to be found, leaving me and the invader to the scrubbiest duel you've ever seen. The guy eventually retreats, lures me to the most annoying and stubborn mobs in the map, and exhausts all of my 7 flasks. At this point, I realize how even it is to have cooperators carry only half of their estus as this fucker drove me nuts when I flailed my little straight sword as he repeteadly restored health just before death. In the end I'm left with a third of my health and had nothing else to lose but to aggro but had a mob unexpectedly backstab me as the invader pulls his bullshit sword to my face. The most bloodboiling part of everything is that the host arrives just as I died and goes in like he's about to win the whole thing. Sadly I couldn't see his ass go down for bailing on the fight.

tldr: how do I catch people like this? Also, I swear I've seen this troll do this exact same thing in bloodborne. That is, I recognized his username for having pulled this bait and lure game and one-shooting unsuspecting low level hosts. Shows how depressed I am that I notice these things :/

NEVER follow an invader into enemy mobs. If they do so, use a giant seed or just ignore them until maybe they get impatient. Don't play by their rules.

As far as dodge spammers, you can roll catch them with a straight sword / undead hunter's charm. You can buy them from the shrine maiden with the paladin's ashes; stock up if you plan to co-op / invade on a consistent basis.

I definitely need to stop chasing! Sadly I never came across any giant seeds :((

I have the hardest time landing hunter charms on people, but I should try working on my inventory and switch weapons on the fly more often. I also want to try equipping a crossbow on my left hand if my stats can carry it.

Roll-catch them, throw it right after the roll animation. Nothing they can do.

just came back to DS3 after burning myself out and then finding DeS and playing that all the way through and then starting a NG+ of that and feeling the urge to go DS3. damn it hits the spot.

DS3 still feel like the best Souls game. DS1 may have that neat SOTN thing going for it, but the 2nd half is a little loose in places. DS2 is a hot mess. DeS is basically the closest to DS3, an oldschool Castlevania-style linear perfection of the formula. it is a linear world but it is very consistently well-designed because of this: rarely are there dead-ends (looking at you DS2) and in every area past the intro you are close to branching paths and multiple bosses. the bosses are the best, no one-hit wonders like DS2, no lame setpieces like Bed of Chaos or Adjudicator (at least he looked cool).

right now i'm at Farron Keep in the swamp, and have just unlocked the third fire, and am about to fight one of two bosses (Vanguard at the Old Wolf or the Abyss Watchers). if i get bored i can take another branching path and go visit the Cathedral of the Deep. there are so many options, yet it's not confusing and pointless like DS2, since each area is compact and focusing on quality vs. quantity. DS3 level design is so good.

DS3 is the best "Dark Souls" game. It really has no low points come to think about it. They delievered a coherent, superb package start to finish. Level design is impeccable: Cathedral of the Deep is like the best levels from Demon's Souls/ Dark Souls 1.

Oh... the DLC#1 is very weak... that's the only con I can find about DS3.

So what's the deal with the symbol of avarice? I killed all mimics (sadly before farming a symbol) and now I cannot find the symbol anywhere. I checked all mimic locations again but no dice.

I am reading about a guaranteed drop when you kill all mimics but is that true, how does that work?

I'm currently farming concords but it's really painful.. more than 1.2 million souls from slaying the knights but no concord yet :( I'm gonna be level 500 before I'm done farming.

It's not a guaranteed drop in DS3, if you've killed them all you'll have to wait until NG+

You can use lloyd's talismans to put them to sleep and keep trying to get one on the same mimic.

Has anyone else had this issue? All of my equipped items show I have next to no inventory, but when I go into my actual inventory, the item numbers are normal.

For example, I have 13 embers, but in the quick use items section on the screen (press down to use).... it says I only have 1.

Not sure how to fix this l, help please!

For reference, I'm on PS4.

Anyone else cannot wait for the second DLC?

I'm on a media blackout regarding it - never saw the teaser/ trailer, only know its name and only saw the leaked boss fight.

I hope it is at least 10 hours long and feature 4 bosses similiar to Old Hunters.

It will probably the last we will see of a Souls game for a very, very long time.

Exploring farron keep, still rocking my starting Knight equipment. Likely time to start getting my fashion on. Weapon-wise however, I'm still using a longsword. It's +4 but I'm wondering what else is out there. I tried red hilted halberd +3 but I'm not really feeling the slowness (I say that as a halberd but in DeS and DS1). Melee build thus far, 24 str, 14-15 dex. I like the quickness of the longsword but it's reach leaves me wanting a bit when I'm invaded. Any recommendations for something to transition to at this point (or to look forward to in areas that aren't too far off)?

The Irithyll Straight Sword is a good replacement for the long sword, if you're looking for something that's very similar but better. You should have it already, it drops from the
Outrider Knight at the bottom of the elevator before you reach Road of Sacrifices.

Have you tried the Drang Hammers? You can find them in the second giant sludge pit in the Cathedral of the Deep. When two-handed, they have unique dual-wielding attacks and look cool as hell. Not as fast as the Longsword, but not that slow.

I personally really enjoyed the Executioner's Greatsword (found in Cathedral of the Deep graveyard), but again, it's slower than a straight sword.

Thanks guys, I have Irithyll Straight Sword, I didn't try it much. Drang hammers, I haven't tried because I haven't been to cathedral of the deep yet but I'll keep my eyes open.

Have you tried the weaponskills on the longsword? L2 > R2 and the 1H R2 both have pretty good range.

For a slower weapon, try the Hollowslayer Greatsword that you get from
transposing the Rotted Greatwood.
That sword has a similar moveset as the longsword, but a little bigger and stronger. It was one of my best friends throughout the game.

i like how it pays to level up your torch!

i was having a time fighting slimes in the catacombs and decided to level up my torch a bunch, now it does a whole lot of damage, and they go down way faster. plusit's useful for the weird maggot creatures at the bottom of the cathedral of the deep!

I keep meaning to and forgetting, damn haha. Tomorrow I'll try that out. I got to the bonfire near the boss in farron keep. A) those giant tree magicians do no mess around. Melee is tough compared to shooting them lol. I killed two and panic rolled into a fire and died. Those two darkwraiths were really cool! I got some orbs, a dark sword and some leggings or something. The sword seems similar to my longsword but with more length? Also, the dark wraiths fighting the swamp scrubs was intense, reminiscent of Eileen the Crow in bloodborne. Can't wait to play more tomorrow (damn night shift).

On a quality build, playing DS3 for the first time.

For the life of me, I cannot pick between the Wolf Knight Greatsword and the Farron Greatsword. Help me GAF!

Wolf's a Greatsword, and Farron's an Ultra Greatsword. Farron is a lot more interesting because of the 2H combos and I'd go with it unless you're married to Artorias' moveset.

Wolf Knight is better, and its one of the best 40/40 PvP weapons out there. Farron has the nutty moveset, so if you looking for a very unique weapon from any other then go for that, otherwise Wolf Knight.

Guys remind me what's the best place to farm souls?

I'm in NG+++ and can kill the 3 Silver Knights in Anor Londo for 70k Souls in 4 minutes. Can't remember a better place? The one Sorcerer before Nameless King gives 9k Souls IIRC and he is 6 seconds from bonfire. I think that would be faster, no?

I think I want to reach SL300 before 2nd DLC hits. Need 60M Souls for that.

IIRC it works out better to just kill the two on the stairs in Anor Londo than doing the third one as well.

That looks quite tedious to be honest. Will try this and calculate is it faster than Anor Londo.

I played this game so long ago that I forgot to equip the Shield of Want, ha. I only remembered about the Mimic Head and the Serpent Ring.

Reading the Wiki I also remembered I have the Mendicant's Staff so I will try to equip this as well. I also noticed that Poise kind of... works now? I am not getting interrupted by the Silver Knights as often as back in May 2016 with the same kind of equipment. Did they fix it?

Just backstab them. You'd waste too much time cheesing like that.

It's less time efficient, but 'safer' when you trap them in the rhythm. Assuming you don't have massively overpowered attacks of course.

Also the Pyromancer's Flame doesn't weigh anything, so you can stick all of the Shield of Want + Symbol of Avarice + switch to Mendicant Staff when needed without a weight penalty.

holy shit my nth playthrough and i am just now learning about the Mendicant's Staff.

reached Irithyll last night. that introduction is mind-blowing. coming out of the catacombs cave and seeing that stunning vista. my first time i thought it was a static image, like a skybox or something, only to be amazed upon running across the bridge to find that no, this is all real, and this is the actual level!

gorgeous view ahead

but be wary of monstrosity

Okay that's enough farming for me. 80 STR and 74 VIT. Full Gundyr's set + Havel's shield + FUGS @ 69.8% Equip Load *or* full Havel's set + FUGS @ 61% Equip Load.

I am ready for DLC#2.

Gimme that!

EDIT: FUGS scales like shit at high STR. What's a better Ultra Weapon or Ultra Hammer? I can even respec to 60 STR 60 DEX etc. if there is a better weapon. My ATK is 656 now.

Not what you're asking, but do you like the greataxe? Heavy greataxe hits like a truck, and has a pretty fast attack. You just lose the ridiculous poke range that you get with weapons like Fume or a Cathedral Knight Greatsword.

I'm just bored. Don't want to start any new game right now (Numenera, Zelda etc.) so I am kind of tiding till DLC#2 drops.

I'm on NG+++ BTW so there will be challenge, oh yes. Bosses will probably destroy me for the first 10 tries.

Lothric Knight Greatsword does insane damage. It has inherent lightning damage and can be buffed. That and the black knight gs are my favorite greatswords.

Can't decide if I want to make a new character for DLC2... My first playthrough of Ashes of Ariandel was at NG++ and the final boss was almost too much for me.

Beat the final Ashes of Ariandel boss today again for the second time ever.

I'm not sure whether being a Faith build made it easier or harder. On one hand, offensive miracles are basically useless against the boss and I have less health and endurance than other players my level. On the other, Heal Aid meant I didn't have to spend any Estus before the final stage of the fight, and having a Lightning infused weapon probably increased my damage output.

EDIT: Rose of Ariandel is hilarious. I love me flail.

Regarding farming the winged knights, use rapport on them. No way there is any other place in this game where you can farm souls as easy as this.
