Nier: Automata PC performance thread

I forgot things lower than 900p were a thing but 720p is mostly 50 fps without the bells and whistles on the GTX750ti, haven't tried windowed borderless. That would seem to count as playable if someone not investing in new pc card or PS4 asks.

Strange. I wonder how it can work for her perfectly, but not you. You have the same card.

She is also using borderless Windows app. Has AA turned off and AO on. She is in window mode (but borderless app makes it full).

If you've tried all of that and it doesn't work, then she's baffled. She is getting 90-99% on both GPUs and is 60 locked at 4K everything MAX. Even an hour in now. Was a massive performance increase. I wonder why it's so drastically different. Would CPU difference have an impact in that regard?

Can't imagine CPU would make a big difference in this case. I have the same settings and I don't keep 60 FPS, it actually lingers around ~40 FPS in the areas past the prologue, but can hit 60 if I look in certain directions.

Of course, there's also the lighting artifacts. The lights on the environments and characters would flicker or shine in and out randomly.

Is anyone's settings reverting back to default every time you boot the game up, is their a fix for this yet?

It's irritating having to adjust the difficulty, camera and sound to my liking every time I boot it up, I imagine some might not even realise they keep getting kicked back into Normal difficulty if you picked a higher one at the start.

Yep, this is happening on my end as well. It's very annoying to have to change all that stuff each time!

I moved the whole game installation from HDD to the SSD, and the performance got noticable better.

The drops still might go to the high-40's (eh), but the game stutters a lot less and when it says 60fps, I can actually FEEL it being 60fps.

Just a heads up to those who have SSD's but might want to save space. Dont!

1. Can't get the game to attain playable status in 720p, no matter what.

2. Dropped my controller for the, like, 20th time. It's an old Logitech F510. I managed to put it back together before, but it didn't work this time around. I'm just fed up with it. Put the remains in a bag, put that bag in my closet, but took the XBAY buttons in memoriam.

That's unfortunate, my trusty old F510 is what I'm using here, pretty much transitioned easily to it right from PS4.

The game still works really well for me.

One thing they shouldn't have done, probably, is make 8xAA part of the "high" preset. It's fantastic that the game supports real AA, and does so well, but like with many other games that supported a non-postprocessing AA option recently, the fact that it has become so rare means that people don't fully consider its performance impact.

Also, fuck yeah Weiss.

ETA on Nierfix by Durante with proper AO/AA?
I don't see any need to program anything rather than just play, it's a great port.

I particularly have no idea what you are talking about with regard to AA, the game supports MSAA that is awesome and far too rare these days.

Thanks, I might do this, I didn't notice any performance issues @3440x1440 with blur and AA disabled using a 980Ti, x5650, 24gig ram but I only played the start and if SSD prevents hiccups I'd prefer to do it before I see issues

Are you getting a constant 60+ on any settings or experiencing cutscenes that run poorly (worse than 30fps) ?

In-game, I get a very solid 60 everywhere at 2560x1440 with 2xAA, and in most locations with 4x or even 8xMSAA (dynamic MSAA sampling would be very cool).
Cuteness have some drops here and there, but I really don't care.

I have the game on a NVMe SSD and play in borderless fullscreen with in-game V-sync on.

Just tried to buy this at GMG, and my payment was denied.

Maybe that's a sign that I should hold off till these issues are fixed haha

I was reading some posts that might have misrepresented the game, I take that back!

Good to hear its good.

1080ti I suppose? That about describes my experience in borderless window mode on a 1080ti (1440p, pretty much locked 60fps everywhere, at max settings 4-8X MSAA). Full screen is considerably less demanding, but who knows how many pixels that's really rendering. Definitely nowhere near a full 1440p in full screen at this time.

Maybe it's just me, but, it feels like the AA option actually looks worse than with it turned off.
AA off, AO off - https://abload.de/img/aaoffaoofffmlgo.png
AA off, AO on - https://abload.de/img/aaoffaoon9mlxt.png
AA 8x, AO on - https://abload.de/img/aa8aoon2obwh.png

Post processing AA seems to be tied to the ambient occlusion option for some reason.
And also AA 8x seems to make jaggies worse in some parts.

Ok I noticed something cool when you alt-tab out of the game, not sure if intentional or not

When you're in the menu, the bg music has a reverb applied to it, making it a bit echo-ier. When you click out of the game the music stops but the reverb still trails when you're on OS. Neeeaaaaaaato

Now, I only noticed this because the game froze when I tried to quit, but that's another story :p

Got the whitescreen bug after spending an hour and some change farming XP. Lost all progress. I just can't...

Not sure if you're on AMD but found this from reddit:

Hi guys, it seems that sword effects can cause these crashes which is consistant with my crashes. I have also fixed this by uninstalling current crimson drivers and reinstalling the 16.11.5 drivers and have not crashed once through gameplay (I have had crashes after exessive settings changes).

Also to help with performance force aa and texture filtering through amd drivers (or nvidia equivalent) and turning off them in the ingame settings (note that it will be slightly lower quality even though its set to the same in game)

Performance should improve in fullscreen mode (when the issues are fixed with it)

Fullscreen mode kept displaying at 1080i for some reason. Didn't matter if I used my monitor or TV, same results. So I tried Borderless Gaming and while that fixed the resolution, the game would drop frames when just moving around.

I'm not sure what I did but the game now runs at a locked 60fps at max settings. I think it has something to do with V-sync. I turned that on both in-game and in the Nvidia control panel. No more frame drops.

So how possible is it for this game to get mods(particularly texture mods)? I'm aware this game has denuvo but I don't know if that hinders the ability to mod the game or not.

Sadly, I'm on Nvidia.

Right now I'm just gonna suck it up and save more often. Still, a bug this game-breaking (in a game with NO AUTO SAVES) should never have made it past launch. Really thinking Platinum should just outsource the PC port to someone competent, 'cause this is becoming a theme with them.

Is the cutscenes stuttering/slowdown the same on consoles? The game runs fine on my PC (have a 980ti) but the only issue is the cutscenes really slow down. My only other option for playing Nier is on a vanilla PS4 so I would probably stick with my PC unless the cutscenes run at the significantly better frame rate on vanilla PS4.

The only frame rate issue im running into is possibly related to streaming assets as they load in. I do get some minor drops barely noticeable during explosions of enemies. I stood in a waterfall, and it kept my frame rate at 50. I put shadows to medium. Effects at high. Everything else is off. I'll try it on my ssd.

No GPU/CPU OC at all. I can see the driver has crashed by looking in the Windows Event Viewer. Probably an issue with Kepler cards from what I've seen on the Steam forums.

I wouldn't mind so much but I just spent 40 minutes or so in the Desert section with no save point in site and it crashed at the end of a boss fight and I lost all that progress. If I could save more regularly I'd still be playing it now :-(

have u tried just doing a wipe with driver sweeper and installing the drivers form zero with a restart and everything? that works for me sometimes. get rid of the old drivers and in with the new ones.

man the reshade preset just made it so much better. ao and aa turned off in menu, 1140p crispy and flud 60fps at all times except pre redendered. mxao looks good too.

Alright the game was running fine for me. Then I closed it out wanted to come back to it later and try running it. The screen pops up showing white in window and then the program just closes out? Never did this before. Now its doing this always after a restart as well.

If you don't mind me asking, which Reshade preset are you referring to and what are your PC's specifications?

cutscenes run at 30fps on console, but its not that big a deal. I dont know of any slowdown or stuttering in the cutscenes, havent seen any...but eh.

OG PS4 runs the game pretty fine IMO, but it certainly can't be compared to a medium or higher level PC, i see people running the game at 1440p and such whereas OG PS4 is 900p

Even on a 1080 I cant get a stable framerate in either fullscreen or windowed 1440p. Adjusting the settings down only works so well as the fps is still all over the place.

EDIT:

Seems the Reshade fixed my issues!

the one that was given here a few pages back with some personal tweaks on it. you have to turn off aa in game and then you can turn on the AA solutions in reshade if you want. i have a 6700k 16gbram and a 1070 though.
