Mhmm. I said it earlier, but now that the only good part of the game has lost some of its fun factor, I think everyone's just about over Mass Effect: Andromeda. Don't think people will really be talking about it in a week or so when Persona is around the corner.

Persona is going to be stellar, but based on what a lot of people who have the full game are saying, MEA really hits its stride soon after Eos. I'm expecting low 80s but I wouldn't be surprised by mid.

I think he's smashing her head against his shoulder pad. It's weird, but it's the only way their positioning makes sense.

I thought so but that's really odd for a krogan, I mean headbutting is supposed to be their thing.

Instead it looks awkward as hell.

Actually the quality of animations seems to have improved in my eyes in the last 24 hours, because Bioware has proven themselves to be an inclusive company.

About how far into the game is that, if you happen to know? Feel free to spoiler tag it in case some people don't want to see. For all my ragging on it, this is still a game I really want to enjoy.

I've been trying to avoid specifics, too, but as far as I can vaguely tell it's almost right after Eos, aka when the trial ends, lol.

Let's not push that narrative too hard tho lol, it backfired for Final Fantasy iirc.

Yeah I mean, it might vary from person to person. And certain problems that peeps may have had with the trial might continue. But both Kyle and ApZoneRunner have posted such impressions in the Trial thread, and you can infer from articles like Paul Tassi's that he feels similar.

Anyway, all I'm saying is I think the review thread will be more boring than we expect. Low to mid 80s and its not high or low enough for the haters or fanboys to complain much.

Can't have a shitty running animation if you don't have a running animation.

Or I can just point out the very first thing I noticed and wonder why it looks awkward, but that doesn't really fit your narrative.

So how's about something positive for a change?

I think Peebee actually looks fine here. A huge improvement from her Shrek-like initial appearance. The VA is solid as well. Yeah, the eyes are still dead, but it's certainly better than what has been shown before.

What if......this game is actually good after the intro?

These conversations with Vetra and Cora seem decent enough too. It's definitely more in line from what I expect from the Bioware branding, that being solid character work, and strong relationships with the protagonist.

I think you got that backwards. I had to re-examine this gif over and over to see if I can make some sense out of it.
The animation sort of does, but Strimei makes a good point about Krogan behavior, and that's not funny.

She's still staring into space like a chuck e cheese motorized toy.

I like the VA and the writing, and it's certainly make me feel more confident about picking the game up at launch, but those eyes in that Peebee video are seriously off-putting.

Is Bioware basically a zombie developer at this point? I mean I did a bit of looking around, and I completely missed that there was a mass exodus, big names like David Gaider had left the studio in early 2016. It's kind of a shame because I even enjoyed Inquisition, but Andromeda looks like a last ditched effort to claim a semblance of relevance. But yeah its hard not see how Bioware has slowly bled all of its talent after Mass Effect 3, and that bleeding has culminated with Andromeda.

Goodnight, sweet prince.

Honestly this thread's association with gamer bigots and their abhorrent bullshit has soured me completely. What started out as innocent fun about comedic animations has been co-opted by and associated wirh everything I hate about gamer culture.

Not to be a dick, buy you must have had a thought this would happen eventually when you created a thread based around shitting on a game (for fun).

What talent did they bleed after Mass Effect 3 besides Gaider? Patrick Weekes moved from ME to become lead writer on Dragon Age, and John Dombrow (lead writer for Tuchanka) left and came back as Senior Writer for Andromeda.

I'm sorry, it's just too difficult for me coming off of Horizon which has amazing facial animations and seeing this poor quality in general for ME when they both practically have the same character interaction system.

They should have gave this game a few more months in the oven though for polish. Give the team 2-3 months for polish and release it in June, or hell even August. There's not much being released this summer it would even compete against.

Instead they decide to compete against Nier, Horizon, Zelda, and Persona 5 which have all been exceptional. SMH wtf were they thinking.

Everybody with even a minimal level of awareness could have seen this coming when the internet starting whipping itself into a negative frenzy over this game. Here in GAF included.

The founders of the company, Chris Wynnes, Cameron Harris, Dan Tudge, Casey Hudson, Daniel Erickson- these are only the big names I can name off the top of my head, I am sure there are many others.

EDIT: And by ME3, I don't mean immediate right after- I mean from that point until now.

Fiscal year. It's march. No other reason.

I feel like if Mass Effect 2 came out in 2017 we'd just see the same seven gifs of bad Shepard smiling, dancing, and being janky as fuck and reach the same conclusion as people have about Andromeda, which is that Bioware games have never been great at animation, games have bugs, and people are on a crazy hunt to hop on that meme bashing train.

This isn't to say that the animation quality isn't poor, but it's being hyper-analyzed to a level of scrutiny that no game could survive.

I forgot about Casey Hudson, yeah. Dan Tudge left in 2009. It's hard to say exactly what the importance of everyone else was. Maybe Cameron Harris as senior editor would have caught these Addison lines, lol. We'll find out whether Wynne leaving was a plus or minus once Andromeda comes out.

I don't really think BioWare's in any trouble. The amicability of many of these departures suggest normal turnover to me.

It's 2017 and the bar has been raised multiple times since ME2.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Open world design is also part of the problem. The more content devs throw in, the less time they have to polish it, or in this case even make sure it doesn't completely break.

Yeah, Horizon's polish and near locked framerate + incredible graphical fidelity, kinda ruins that argument for everyone now. No longer does, "but it's an open world game; it's a Bethesda game; oh it's Bioware's usual quirks" work anymore after a bunch of newbies (to the genre) just showed up everyone. There was a Horizon review ( forgot the publication) where the reviewer was essentially saying that this game should have these other developers like Ubisoft worried. They can't just shrug their shoulders and go, "well it's an open world game, were you expecting no bugs and performance issues?"

Barring Zelda, a year ago I would have bet Andromeda would be one of this year's big hitters.

It was a surprise Horizon and Nier ended up as good as they are.

That was all in good fun with ME2 but there are warranted concerns. Watch a minute or two of Liara in this vid or at here(ME3 spoilers) from ME3 and tell me Peebee looks better.

Liara is a huge fan favorite and they actually really nailed her look and animations in ME3. I mean I gotta go from Liara to that?

Yea ME3 had a trash ending, but there was some really good work done on some of it's cut scenes and dialog.

It's just most of the stuff I've seen from Andromeda involving cut scenes or dialog looks worse than a good chunk of ME3...

That did not stop DA2 OT from being one of the best OT on GAF lol.

Did other open world games that came out right before Mass Effect 2 have much better facial animations to the point where the two games looked a generation apart?

Did Bioware release a different but similar game three years before Mass Effect 2 that looked far better on the same hardware?

I'm not really buying it.

Hell, if Mass Effect 2 released looking like Mass Effect 2 in 2017, we'd probably all be saying "Hey, at least it looks about as good as Mass Effect: Andromeda"
This.

Also right now what matters is the story. RDR had even more hilarious gifs, but it was forgiven because everything else was so darn good.

It happened with ME3 too. It was pretty clear this would happen again and will continue to happen.

NeoGAF isn't the entirety of the internet. This forum could have been shut down for maintenance for the past two weeks and the harassment would have still taken place. People were talking about the issues with the game all over the internet, including the places filled with garbage people who have no issue harassing people.

Blaming the creator of this thread for the behavior of those psychopaths isn't fair. There is no line from this thread to their behavior.

My point was less about ME2 literally coming out in 2017 and more about that game having a ton of issues that could be thrown in a similar meme-y compilation thread but still being a good game regardless.

And my point is that this game should be far enough along that you shouldn't be able to make such a hilarious compilation thread. Mass Effect 2 was still technically impressive in a lot of aspects. This shit didn't happen with Inquisition.

I'm not sure I would say that. Inquisition had some really, really poor animation. And lots of bugs. I just played through the game from start to finish and there was a lot of stuff to like but still a lot of stuff to critique. I came away from Andromeda (the trial on PC and multiplayer demo at PAX) feeling the same way.

I really dont think it had that much glitches in the first few hours. I didnt encountered any.

Also, it's increasingly rare to have game breaking bugs and glitches early on in the game. That usually happens mid or late game, when you know they left some the way it is to rush a game out for shipping.

Hopefully the rest of Mass Effect Andromeda turns out better than expected, but when it comes to glitches and bugs, I'm doubtful.

I think the design choices will be vindicated when they release a new line of mass effect real dolls. They will be the most realistic sex dolls ever!

It's still much better than this game, despite being three years old.

I think the whole game would probably have to come out before we see if that pans out. I hope it's not the truth, but I also liked Inquisition a whole lot, especially with the DLC, so maybe you're right!
