I am Jonathan Smith, a 26 year old white man.

One of the best Atlanta episodes XD

wtf? how is h3h3 a fraud, or a hypocrite for not making a video on JonTron?

Well, I haven't seen all their content but he's made videos before calling out people for being racist or sexist. And we know he's friends with JonTron so I guess the assumption is that he won't criticise his friend for the shitty behaviour despite the fact he doesn't hold back with anyone else.

Always awkward when somebody whose work you used to enjoy turns out to be a piece of shit. Shame, but at least it seems he is getting the blowback he deserves for his shit beliefs.

"Doubling down" is basically *the* catch cry of ignorant anuses in games media. PDP, Moriarty and Jontron all subscribe to this way of thinking, and it never fucking pays off.

Maybe we can refer to all them as "The Double Downers". That way we know they're incapable of any level of introspection, empathy or compassion.

"White" was basically a concept made up by the bourgeois centuries ago to prevent indentured and poor whites and enslaved blacks from realizing they were on the same side economically and socially and revolting together. It characterized the ruling class as a sort of standard that lower-class whites could live up to- gave them a taste of power- and thus racial divisions occurred.

I don't think you really want to take the ever-so-persuasive whiteness argument to its ultimate conclusion. To take up the argument of whiteness - which is the foundation of your post as far as I can tell - is to turn "whiteness" into an abstraction. That is fundamentally flawed because it stands as an attribute of some people rather than the role they play. Looking at history through the white studies lens is interesting and revealing, but ultimately unfulfilling in that it is very much a one-sided perspective that fails to take into account... almost everything, really.

But it does sound nice, I agree.

Anyways, back on topic, fuck Jon Tron.

Once you understand this, every racial issue in America logically follows: You understand why different European groups like the Irish and Italians were forced to leave behind the depths of their cultures for the security of being considered "white." You understand why Asians even tried at all to legally argue in court that they too should be considered "white." As a result of this attempt at assimilating all of these different cultures and peoples down into this one thing called "whiteness" or "white culture," you understand why even most white people can't actually tell you what "white culture" is, a peculiar problem not faced by ethnic minorities like black people, Latino groups, Asians, and natives.

You understand why white people will, on average, see other poor whites (like those unfortunate coal miners) as undeserving victims of an unfair system while poor blacks are just lazy welfare queens and poor Latinos are all illegals who are undermining proper work standards and diluting the gene pool. You understand why the nearly free land and money grants given to white people by the government throughout this country's history are not considered welfare, while welfare initiatives that work to include minorities too are indicative of "handouts" and "entitlements" that they don't deserve. You understand why white people love the ACA but hate Obamacare. You understand why white people overwhelmingly voted for Trump while most other ethnic minorities- even those who face the exact same kind of economic dead ends that poor white people do- voted the other way regardless.

And finally, you understand why people who look white regardless of them actually being of Iranian descent like JonTron will basically throw themselves on the spear and turn their backs on who they really are to defend whiteness. Because ultimately, "white" means power, and the long and short of it is people don't want to give up their power.

Your posts on social issues are always of the highest caliber, much appreciated.

Didn't h3h3 defend PDP on human trash can Keemstar's channel? They're not going to make a video calling out JonTron, he's their friend and they're not good people anyway; if they were decent people they wouldn't have done a podcast with someone who doxxed an elderly gamer and sent an online lynch mob against him with false pedophilia accusations (among many other fucked up things Keemstar has done).

Just such a shame. I've never really found the guys work to be funny but it must suck for those that do, and then witness the garbage he spewed on Destinys stream. All I can hope for is that he, and others like him, are treated with kindness and hopefully their views will change in time.

Amazing post. This is what I was trying to say in the "what is white culture" thread last week, but you said it much better than I did.

Race is fundamentally a social construct. It doesn't exist outside of a social context. Race of any sort is only an "attribute" of anyone because society says so. Race has no basis in biology. Ethnicity has some basis in genetics as it descibes groups of people of common descent, but "white" describes a wide range of people who don't have any common ancestry.

The term "white" can only be understood by looking at society and politics. There is no other meaningful lens to describe it.

Someone on JonTron's subreddit posted a link to another Destiny streamed debate this time with someone from the Daily Stormer (I think?) who wanted to follow up on Jon's views. Truly awful, awful stuff. Jon is having literal Nazis argue on his behalf and still wants to chalk it up to 'I was a poor debater'.

Fantastic Post. Spot on about using it as a divide.

The Irish were considered to be pretty much equivalent to the Slaves when they first started immigrating to America. Then when Black Men started to gain degrees of freedom suddenly the Irish were an acceptable "white" who was paid slightly better than a black man could get just to keep them both down while making the Irish feel like they were suddenly welcomed into the brotherhood of White power.

He opens with the suggestion that his debate was being taken out of context by various media outlets and promoting ideas he doesn't really believe, and then cops to the fact he choked under the pressure of a public debate and didn't express himself very well. He then attempted to express himself much better, thanks to having a prepared statement ready to go, and read from it, essentially backing up all the ignorant beliefs at the core of every single dumb utterance that fell from his fucking head during the debate. There is no real apology, and the only regret he seems to have is for his own lack of preparation. He apparently believes if he'd prepared more, nobody would be mad at him.

So it's a "Sorry not sorry. Don't trust what the media says about me."

wait

so in his apology for saying racist shit, he brought a "list of evidence" as to why what he said was not racist?

I'm confused. Are you arguing that because the phenotype attributes that we associate with people we consider "white" are physical and can be categorized that there has not been an active effort in contextualizing those attributes from a political and economic standpoint? And what is this "everything" that isn't taken into account that you speak of?

Can you provide some sources on this? I want to read them myself.

W.E.B Du Bois, James Weldon Johnson, and Theodore Allen talk about whiteness as a divisive political concept from the 16th and 17th centuries. Tim Wise does rather fiery lectures on white privilege (which is where the rabbit hole started for me, personally) although the historical aspect is mostly touched upon in order to contextualize modern day American racism.

If you want to go down the rabbit hole further, you will definitely see much of that within various minority groups as well. I'm a full blooded Mexican American and I've noticed with groups within us that have money and/or successful, they look down on the poorer Mexican groups for "handouts" on the "lone star card". Instead of coming together as a group, it splinters out. Hell, many Mexican Americans voted for trump, especially in border towns. This is because they are "tired" of "illegals" ruining the USA. It's baffling.

Exemplified when groups of people like the Irish and Italians were not considered 'White' during the big European migrations. And thus treated like outsiders and unwanted immigrants.

And now they are considered White.

That doesn't surprise me at all. There are similar divisions within black culture that relate to colorism, African and Caribbean immigrants vs. native black Americans, and also economic achievements ("Nu black"). People have a habit of fighting for the trees versus noticing that the entire forest is actually on fire. xP

I don't know if America is great again but racism is definitely cool again. Like other fads that sometimes do come back from the past, it is here and people are dealing with it in their own ways. It never went anywhere but expressing it, like expressing sexuality, is not a taboo anymore. Some people even see it as a cool counterculture thing to do.

Man I like h3h3, but he definitely deserves to be called out for this shit. He makes videos on way less serious things than this. But because it's his friend he doesn't say shit. So much for integrity and "cutting through the bullshit."
I think he also liked jon's statement tweet. Disappointing man.
If ethan doesn't cover it in his recap today... Then it seals the deal. He's being a hypocrite

Blaming the media when there's an unedited long damning audio of his racism? What? There's nothing wrong with being secure and admitting problems. Just once I want one of these YouTube guys to take responsibility.

Ok, heard his first point which made it clear that he's not informed well enough about the topic as he should be to make a statement of this kind, so... i've got better things to do with my time than give his "statement" any time of my day.

Namely videogames.

This shit is real people.

Honestly political discourse seems to be largely beyond the point where people (at least "alr right" people) will admit an argument or statement was made poorly. They just scream that it was fine because they agree with it and if you didn't like it, it's because you're an offended snowflake liberal cuck etc.

It's why there's no dialog to be had with these people. They're not arguing on genuine terms, they're, ironically "virtue signalling" to show other racist punks they're on their side, and anyone who disagrees is just automatically Evil Liberals.

It's why Milo and the like were popular. Couldn't argue their way out of a paper fucking bag, but he sure hated muslims so he was alright by them.

In fairness, it isn't just an alt-right problem, it's a human nature problem. Most people are incapable of conceding points because they don't want to come across as "weak" or "intellectually inferior." They see the debate as a black/white zero sum game that they must win in order to prove that they are right and hold the truth to everyone's problems, no matter how problematic their argumentation is.

I'll give you an example, at my university, there is always a heated debate between Palestinian and Jewish students over Middle East problems. Both sides are too biased and passionate to take the other side's issues, as well as whether their respective populations have made mistakes into consideration. So when a neutral person sees the facts and evidence and takes a side, they are either discounted for "lacking understanding", or they're branded an apologist despite having made good points. What it comes down to is lacking debate skills, and being too stubborn because debate is viewed as a gladiator match.

What; you mean like saying wealthy black people commit more crime than poor white people? Like your implications that black people are genetically predisposed to crime? Like your suggestion that the Irish settling in North America being poorly treated is a myth? Like your suggestion that people protesting against things like abortions or trans people are being orchestrated by Muslims? Like the fact you believe Trump has never said anything explicitly racist? Like the fact you're full of ignorant creamy steamy bullshit?

There's a distinct difference between Palestinians and Jewish folks debating and a neutral party there.

And everything that's happening with JonTron

"White" was basically a concept made up by the bourgeois centuries ago to prevent indentured and poor whites and enslaved blacks from realizing they were on the same side economically and socially and revolting together. It characterized the ruling class as a sort of standard that lower-class whites could live up to- gave them a taste of power- and thus racial divisions occurred.

Echoing that this is an excellent post.

I like h3h3, but I can understand that because they're so close to Jon, as a friend and in their business, they are choosing to remain silent on the issue. They have their own issues to deal with, they made a video a few weeks ago about struggling to keep up with this ongoing lawsuit against them and the financial fees of hiring a solicitor per month. To get involved in such a contentious issue, with a friend no less and having to deal with the aftermath on it from both sides... it isn't going to do them any good so I can see why they're keeping silent although I don't agree with it.

Buuuuuut, when Ethan can go to town on a shitbag like Joey Salads for his shitty views on race, making multiple videos about it but not on Jon when he's openly said far worse? Doesn't seem right.
