People piling on shitbags and calling them out for what they are I find incredibly cathartic. Sure, hearing yet another story is disgusting (hi Tim Allen!), but I feel better when the good people punching snowflake nazis (figuratively and literally) far outnumber the snowflake nazis themselves.
Dude....he admitted he engaged in a little moonshine and had a methlab. And that his friends engage in making meth as well. But....Marijuana is drug that lowers your intelligence and is an avid grower of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
I feel the same. And the gaming industry/community seems so rife with people who harbour these beliefs deep down (or other times wave it around like a flag) that I can't even play games sometimes without feeling a little grimy.

If you ever want to feel better, you can always look at the things that they want to boycott. There were calls for a Horizon boycott because some people pushed the notion that it was anti-white male. Now it's sold 2.6m in just two weeks. In terms of movies you had people hating on and wanting to boycott Get Out for obvious reasons. Now it's a movie that's made 133m on a 4.5m budget.
well that and almost half of the country deciding that not voting was a better option. Not that everything is sunshine and rainbows and shit, but Imagine its going to get a lot more people to vote next time.
It's great to listen to him talk about the vast fortune he doesn't have.

I'm not sure if they're just naive, innocent buffoons, subscribe to the adage of "Republicans watch (Youtube), too," or secretly harbor the alt-right demon that invades Youtuber personalities, but so far it's all been kept under the lid.
I think the conversation that has given me the best handle on them has been the Get Out Spoilercast. But yeah I feel the same way.

Not that I support the guy or anything, but what could JonTron possibly do for us to forgive what he has done? I honestly don't know if there is such a thing.
Teamfourstar crew are pretty left leaning from what I seen, they seem very vocal on twitter on going against Trump and his policies.
Jacksepticeye also seems to have a good head on his shoulders, he is a Gaffer after all

Some of the Super Best Friends have made twitter comments on how shitty it was that Trump won, and they are from Montreal, Quebec... so even if they were conservative on Canadian grounds, they'd still be LIGHTYEARS to the left of whatever cesspool the alt right has carved out for themselves. They also guest hosted a transgender person on their podcast and respected their preferred pronoun, so take it as you will. Regardless, I don't blame them for keeping hush on politics.

It's modern-day witch hunt. The mob has a suspicion. The mob's anger won't be quenched until they'll see the blood.
It all comes down to moral certainty and suspicion.
If he apologizes, the mob will say he's an hypocrite who's only faking. If he doesn't apologize then he's only inciting more anger. In every case he remains the enemy of society that needs to be taken down.
When the mob will see the blood then it will quickly disperse... Until the next witch hunt comes up.

Guru Larry makes good, informative videos and he's friends with everyone ranging from Mister Metokur to Jim Sterling.
Jon needs to re-educate himself back into the reality of privilege and oppression of his country, to admit that he has a problem.
Then he needs to sincerely apologize and promise not to be a racist shitheel again by way of both not saying the things he said again, but also by opening himself up to continued learning, self-improvement, and even criticism. Also, don't blame anyone or any other extenuating circumstance for his behavior in the midst of apologizing.
As an extra olive branch, he should engage in a short-term call to action- donate some of that YouTube money to an appropriate cause or organization like the ACLU.
This is how you get back into the good graces of people after you fuck up: recognize the problem, take full responsibility for the problem, promise not to do it again, and make a concession or action of peace. But all of this requires a level of introspection and humility that I highly doubt JonTron at his current level of character would be able to actually display.

Destiny makes his position clear at about the halfway point, but going in you should know that he doesn't actually advocate for the things he's saying and is approaching the subject as a thought experiment more than anything else.
It's a bit slow to get going but if you have two hours to waste (and I assure you they will be wasted) it really pays off by the end. Watching it live, the back half of this interview had me on the floor.

The Destiny debate dude is so weird. Because he is ALMOST on point with a lot of the historic and scientific "evidence" he uses. It's a pretty well-regarded theory that the majority of cultural development came as a result of geography and the environments humans had to survive in. But then you take that bit of knowledge and completely throw out the fact that most of humanity's advancements came from the Middle East or that the Polynesians were far more advanced than the Europeans at one point. You can just tell that someone smarter than this guy has been telling him half-truths and it's actually kind of sad to imagine how many people like him are out there.
He gets to all these crossroads where just a little bit of thought should get him somewhere that makes sense but just can't make the connections.

It's not a witch hunt and that self-victimizing fuckwit is just having a case of belated scruples because he was surprised that the world took notice of his fuckwitedness.
It's also not a mob. The press did it for their own money/click count based reasons for the most part and that is what it is. The public aren't mobbing up though they are collectively taking a stand aginst hate talk and hate screed and saying "No, this is not acceptable in our shared gaming community." Inclusiveness is paramount to forward movement and when people's views are hedged in being non inclusive they need to be shut the fuck down.
JonTron also diminished heavily in his "statement" how shitty the things he said were, how condescending he came off to Destiny, and how he kept tripling down on one hateful idea after the other. There was no pressure. There was no double standard. If anything Destiny gave him many outs or opportunities to clarify.
And one random Aside:
It is hilarious that the alt right, and David Duke's of the world wouldn't shake hands with a "half breed" like JonTron, or like me. That in some cases, being mixed, is worse to them than being pure and what Jon said in the original stream wasn't far off from David Duke except David Duke is a better arguer. Fairly pathetic Jafari.
Also dont forget the entire interview came about beacause of JonTron's massively racist tweets defending Steve fucking King and David Duke of all fucking people.

I have a hard time believing that anyone around here would give him any benefit of the doubt if he said "hey what I said was wrong I'm sorry." Not that he would deserve any sympathy or anything but would apologizing actually help his reputation at all? Maybe in some circles it would but I imagine many people would just say he's lying to save face or that an apology isn't good enough or that we now know how he truely feels.
And I'm not trying to defend Jon here. Please do not take this as a defense for Jon. He is not the victim. Jon said some racist and ignorant shit, and in his statement he decided to act as if he did nothing wrong. As a (former) fan of his I'm disgusted that this is the kind of person he has become or possibly been the whole time. But what did you really expect Jon to do? He's been on blast for the past week. Did you think he was just going to take it or did you think he was going to try to defend himself? An apology admitting he was wrong would have been the right thing to do but I can see why someone wouldn't view themselves as the wrong-doer when they're receiving so much online hate and criticism (regardless of how justified it is). He probably thinks he's the victim here even though he is clearly not.
Essentially I'm trying to say that I don't think there's anything Jon could really do to better his situation. Admitting that he's wrong wouldn't win many people over. And obviously his actual response, refusing to believe he did anything wrong, is also a terrible way to handle the situation. He's kind of screwed no matter what he does. The only perfect solution would have been to not say racist shit in the first place, but he did and now that he has I don't think people will ever give him the chance to atone for what he said.
He absolutely deserves to be held accountable for his words but if people don't give him a chance to actually change then who cares how he responds. We're just going to treat him the same way no matter what.
